Our fleet is shipshape ready to welcome you onboard!
As many of you already know, each November we begin our extensive winter maintenance programme on all our boats. We take enormous pride in our fleet and work hard year-round to keep the very high standards that regular guests have come to expect but it is in the winter that major works begin. This year work included the following:
– New bathroom upgrades
– New fitted upholstery
– New mattresses
– New soft furnishings
– Galley refurbishments
– Boat exteriors have been painted
– Hulls have been blacked
This winter, we continued our plan to upgrade onboard toilets and holding tanks from the traditional narrowboat style to macerator pump toilets. The benefit of macerator toilets is that they are much more like the toilets you would have at home, therefore creating a more home-like environment while on board, as well as reducing the ability for odours to escape from the toilet tank. Our 5 star boats, Einstein’s Fox and Darwin’s Fox were built with macerator toilets and it is our intention over the coming seasons to upgrade our 4 star boats. Foxglove was upgraded last year, and this winter we upgraded Flying Fox and Arctic Fox.
We also evaluated and upgraded our mattresses as part of our quality control checks.
Many of our boats had new upholstery and soft furnishings as well as being repainted and having their bottoms blacked. This is in addition to the servicing and/or replacing of all major components that is undertaken every winter.
Next, our Housekeeping Team undertook the usual deep cleaning so our guests can rest assured that everything is “ship shape” when they arrive for their canal adventure.
Our 2022 season started on the 18th March, and ends with the last hire on 28th November.
