Lazy Fox

5 - 8 Berth Narrowboat, Silver Fox Class

Lazy Fox is medium sized boat ideal for two couples, although her flexible bed options also suits extended groups. A member of our Silver Fox Class of luxuriously appointed Semi-traditional narrowboats.

A 5+3 berth with 2 permanent sleeping cabins that have a clever design which easily converts them from a double bed to 2 fixed single beds bed offering several combinations of single and double beds: either 2 permanent doubles; or 1 double and 2/3 singles; or 4/5 singles. The forward sleeping cabin can be set-up to accommodate 3 with a single bunk above the port sided bed.  All sleeping cabins are separated by bathrooms and if used as a 4/5 berth both these cabins are en-suite.  The galley, saloon and dining area are towards the aft where another 3 people can sleep as it easily converts at night into a third double berth and additional single bed. This popular reverse layout means the helmsman is not isolated from their crew during navigation and this boat enjoys an additional feature of a secondary TV/Games lounge created by simply revolving a single bed in the forward cabin to converts it into a desk and T.V. – watch the video here.

Luxuriously appointed and beautifully crafted with an uplifting warm interior in Maple and Cherry woods that contrast with a sumptuous Walnut floor throughout. Facilities include 2 toilets, 2 showers, a comprehensively equipped galley with a full-size cooker and microwave, a 240v electrical system as well as central heating that provides great comfort from March to November.

Along with her identical sister boat Wily Fox they are 64ft(19.5m) long and have a social bow deck with space to seat 5/6 and a Semi-traditional stern that has an elevated steering position for greater visibility and improved weather protection in the steering cockpit.  Popular with dog owners, the lockable doors provide the bonus of an ideal pen for dogs.  Though there isn’t a guard rail to protect the steerer around the back deck, the semi-traditional stern has seating for 2 to 3 people on the storage benches when cruising.

Standard breaks for this narrowboat:

  • Weekend breaks (4:30pm Fridays to 11:00am Mondays)
  • Midweek breaks (4:30pm Mondays to 11:00am Fridays)
  • Weekly, 10/11 day & fortnight breaks (4:30pm Mondays/Fridays afternoons to 11:00am Monday/Friday morning)

The Stern Deck

This is a “semi-traditional” style deck which as well as being the place where the boat is driven can also be a sociable area for 3-4 people to sit even when cruising. The overall higher standing platform makes viewing easier when at the helm. Note this style does not have a safety rail behind the tiller.

The Saloon

The ‘L’ shaped dinette will seat 3-4 adults around the table which is stowed beneath the gunwale when not in use. The dinette will also easily convert to a double berth approx. 4ft (1.22m) wide x 6’3” (1.91m) long. There are two single seats separated by a table, the tables will drop down overnight to make a single berth approx. 2’ (61cm) wide x 6’3” (1.91m) long. Extra seating is provided by three folding chairs.

The Entertainment & Storage

A 15” flat screen TV/DVD and DAB Radio/Bluetooth stereo are fitted. There is a hanging rail, drawers and storage located in a half height cupboard in this area.

The Galley

There is a domestic sized gas cooker with a two-shelf oven with a separate grill. There is also a gas hob with four rings, microwave and a domestic sized electric refrigerator with small freezing compartment fitted under the worktop. The galley is equipped to suit the maximum capacity of the boat.

The Aft Shower and Toilet

There is a standard flushing toilet, the waste is stored in a large holding tank with capacity usually suitable for 1 week. There is a shower with dimensions of 2’3 (69cm) x 2ft (61cm) with headroom of approx. 6’3 (1.91m). There is also a small washbasin with storage above.

The Double or Twin Singles Bedroom.

This bedroom can be arranged in two ways. As a 4ft (122cm) wide double bed or as two single beds that are 2’3” (69cm) wide. All beds are 6’3” long with quality mattresses. The bedroom has cabin doors to provide privacy and there is hanging wardrobe storage, drawers a vanity unit and further storage above and below the beds.

The Fwd Shower and Toilet

There is a standard flushing toilet, the waste is stored in a large holding tank with capacity usually suitable for 1 week. There is a shower with dimensions of 2’3 (69cm) x 2ft (61cm) with headroom of approx. 6’3 (1.91m). There is also a small washbasin with storage above.

Great holiday. Fantastic boat. Good handover and very easy return of boat. Friendly staff.

Captain Cpt C Hussey, Lazy Fox September 2024

Hi There, Just a note to express our appreciation of your services over the weekend 25-28 October. The boat was clean and well equipped. We were especially impressed by the amount of storage space you have managed to build in. Although our party had lots of boating experience, we had none on canals, and in that respect the thorough briefing and guidance notes were extremely useful. Your staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. And finally, we would like to thank you for arranging such fantastic weather for late October in the UK. Best wishes, The Caunt and Taylor families.

Captain Cpt John Caunt, Lazy Fox October 2024

We had a great week, the boat was well equipped and to a high standard. It was clean and tidy. The handover of the boat was thorough and the information on board was useful as there was a lot of information to take on. Handing the boat back was easy and less formal. Thank you

Captain Cpt Judith Kelly, Lazy Fox August 2024

We would like to thank you for a wonderful holiday, much enjoyed by all the crew. We hope to be back again in the autumn to go the other way! The boat was the best ever we have chartered. Thanking you much again from all the crew, especially my 97year old mother!

Captain Cpt Martin Breschinski, Lazy Fox May 2024

Our first trip on a Narrowboat. As we had previous sailing experience it was no problem to drive the boat. The briefing at the start was very thorough, the boat very well equipped, clean and of a very good standard. Helpful and cheerful support with a very quick and easy handover at the end of the week. The four of us had a great time!

Captain Cpt Paul Miller, Lazy Fox May 2023

A cracking holiday where everything was ready for us and the boat ‘Lazy Fox’ was just as described with lovely warm heating. It’s also worth commenting that we had a very helpful briefing from the South African expert who got us ready to depart. That meant we enjoyed it all the more by stopping at Bradford on Avon instead of Bath, so we were not in any rush. Keep up the good work.

Captain Cpt R Williams, Lazy Fox October 2022

Just a short e-mail to thank you for your efforts in setting up our recent return trip to Bath. The narrow boat was well prepared and equipped. The handover was excellent, and the vessel manual covered everything we needed.

Captain Cpt John Constable, Lazy Fox October 2022

Dear Team Foxhangers Having recently returned from a week aboard Lazy Fox with my wife and our friends the Ropers, I’d like to say what a pleasure it was to hire from Foxhangers. From start to finish you were polite, helpful, friendly, and informative and exceptionally well organised for handover and return. Lazy Fox was clean and well-appointed and we thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard. You even managed to arrange perfect boating weather! Thank you for helping to make our holiday a most pleasant and enjoyable experience. I have attached a few photos showing a selection of memories from our trip along the canal to Bath. Thanks and best regards

Captain Cpt Barry Knight, Lazy Fox September 2022

Just a note to say thank you to the Fox Hanger team. We had a fantastic few days along the canal on the Lazy Fox, as novices we were impressed by our thorough handover and briefing. The boat was spotlessly clean (not an easy task with all the little nooks and crannies!). Can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend your company to others. Please pass on our thanks to the team

Captain Cpt Kevin Penfold, Lazy Fox September 2022

A wonderful weekend, everything with the boat (the Lazy Fox) was good, induction and handover was smooth. All seven of us had a great time. Thank you.

Captain Cpt Julian Neal, Lazy Fox September 2021

Thank you for a fantastic long weekend. The boat was extremely well resourced, equipped and clean. The staff were very helpful and engaging at check in and check out, taking all the time we needed to understand how to use the locks. We would certainly recommend Foxhangers to friends. The only thing we would pass on to future boaters is that all the pubs at bridge 166 are no longer serving food. Thank you and we hope to see you again.

Captain Cpt Anne Howard, Lazy Fox August 2022

Hi Sharon, Our holiday aboard the Lazy Fox was our first ever narrow boating experience and the entire thing was just superb in every way. Long before the holiday even started we received a ton of information from Foxhangers about how to plan the route and videos on the fundamentals of canal boating. We also spoke to a helpful lady in the office who made recommendations on how far to go and thankfully told us to go over the Avon Cliff aqueduct (which is stunning). Then when we arrived your guy (I apologise I can’t remember his name!) talked us through the boat and gave us a crash course in using the locks and was incredibly helpful, friendly, and patient. All round 5 star customer service. The boat itself is fantastic, clean, tidy and obviously well maintained. The use of space is very clever and we managed to get along just fine with 5 adults and a child on board without issues. The bathrooms and galley are surprisingly decent considering the restrictions of space and being on a boat. The best thing however was how much the whole family loved it, they all loved the boat, loved the experience of the locks/bridges and just generally loved the beautiful canals and relaxed cruising. We spent plenty of time on the boat, but also did some exploring along the way and the surrounding area, pubs and shops are just stunning. The Cross Guns in the shadow of the Avon Cliff aqueduct was genuinely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life, and rocking up on shiny narrowboat was something I’ll remember for life. We will certainly go narrow boating again and would use foxhangers again without question.

Captain Cpt Ricky Foyle, Lazy Fox August 2022

We had a lovely mid week break on Lazy Fox. Spotlessly clean and well presented boat with everything you need. Lovely scenery with good pubs and lovely towns en route. Thank you to everyone at Foxhangers.

Captain Cpt Emma Ede, Lazy Fox May 2021

This was a weekend break planned to celebrate significant birthdays and anniversaries across three generations but was held on tenterhooks by Covid-19 and the cautious lifting of lockdown measures. Foxhangers couldn’t have been more helpful through all the uncertainty, offering us four quality boats so that all four families could enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime get-together as we emerged out of lockdown. The knowledgeable staff, the training and handover all gave us the confidence to make the most of our time which we did, leaving us with unforgettable memories and the pleasure of being able to recommend such a generous, efficient and considerate company.

Captain Donald Hunter, Lazy Fox July 2020

We had the best possible experience on the Lazy Fox. The boat was really well equipped, very clean and great to be on for 4 nights. The instructor was fantastic, as were the written information and map book. We all enjoyed the scenery, blackberries and fantastic weather and can absolutely recommend Foxhangers to anyone who wants a memorable holiday

Captain Mrs Stang-lord, Lazy Fox

Such a great holiday. Five middle-aged blokes who haven’t been together since school, taking it in turns to helm a massive boat through gorgeous countryside. Billy Bluebeard gave us a good introduction and set us up for a fantastic weekend. The weather was pretty much ideal, our stop-offs were well planned and only one of us fell in the canal. Against all odds we made it to Bath and back in a couple of days. We even mastered doubling up with another boat in the locks. Highly recommended. They’re not that tricky to drive and there’s a real sense of satisfaction that comes from pretending to be a captain/pirate for a few days. Will be booking again for next year. Thank you.

Captain Finn Hunter, Lazy Fox

Hello, Foxhangers This is just a quickie to say how much we enjoyed our 2 trips this summer, and how pleased we were that we used Foxy boats! All your staff were friendly as well as helpful, and we were very pleased with the craft themselves - loads of storage, comfortable beds, excellent handbook, good lighting with plenty of switches, nice clean engines, with oil which never seemed to be looking used...........the list goes on. Our own boat years ago was fitted out to a high standard, but we've seen some fleet boats which would have disappointed. Whilst I doubt we'll be back in the near future - we ought to take our granddaughters somewhere different on a future occasion - we'll certainly recommend you to anyone we know who's thinking of cruising the K&A.

Captain Colin & Jackie Crowhurst., Lazy Fox

Thank you for your excellent service and high standard of boats. We all thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and would recommend Foxhangers to anyone looking for a hassle free boating holiday with easy access for loading luggage onto the boat and free secure parking. No complaints whatsoever!

Captain Paul Kelleway, Lazy Fox

Very enjoyable time aboard lazy fox, I found foxhangers  very easy and professional to deal with from start to finish. All the information sent prior to our trip was very informative, including a DVD on safe boating. I would definitely recommend using foxhangers for a canal boat holiday, and will be booking with them in the future.

Captain Mr D Poole, Lazy Fox

We hired the Lazy Fox for a week in August and had a wonderful week.  I hired the boat for me, my husband and three children aged 9, 12 and 14.  The boat was in excellent condition: very comfortable beds and pillows, good bathrooms and well equipped kitchen.  Plenty of storage once you discover it all.  The staff at foxhangers could not have been more helpful.  They gave good instruction (although I had done this once previously so had a general sense) and sensible, clear advice.  When we had some trouble with the engine they came out immediately and sorted it out.  That part of the K&A canal is magnificent, lots of swing bridges and locks and several aqueducts.  We headed West and went to Bath and back and then West up the flight of Caen which was great fun too.  There are good pubs en route and easy water points as well as shops for stocking up.  Top tips from the week: (1) Don't be a in a rush, there's no point. (2) when coming upstream through the Bath Deep lock CLOSE THE DOORS at the front and make sure nothing is left outside as the water pours through a gap in the lock doors and will soak everything at the front of the boat - in our case books, magazines, jumpers. We will definitely hire a boat again - pity there isn't another Foxhangers somewhere else.

Captain Mrs Samantha Broadfoot, Lazy Fox

Really friendly staff and very smooth handover. Boat was hassle free and we had a lovely short break

Captain Mrs Karen O’Callahan, Lazy Fox

A fantastic, midweek break.  The boat is well kitted out and I will book up for another trip next year

Captain John Harper, Lazy Fox

Our family canal boating weekend was fantastic! We had two boats and it was the first time we had ever done such a thing. Foxhangers was the perfect choice with regards to easy of booking, information provided, flexibility and customer service. Plus, the location for picking up the boats and training made it very easy. The boats were well equipped, clean and a pleasure to use and stay on. Foxhangers are a very professional, friendly company and we can certainly recommend them and we will be booking again. Thank you for making our holiday very memorable.

Captain Mrs Terrey, Lazy Fox

I’m writing to thanks you for a really enjoyable mid-week break on-board Lazy Fox. From my first phone call to make my booking until we drove away from the boat everyone from your company were friendly, helpful and really professional. We look forward to booking another holiday with you in the future.

Captain Keith Stitchman, Lazy Fox

We had a wonderful trip on the canal heading towards Bath. The boat was clean and well equipped. The booking process was also easy. We got good information before we started our trip.

Captain Mrs. Vaage, Norway, Lazy Fox

Three generations aboard the Lazy Fox debuted in canal boat with a weeklong trip along the Kennet & Avon canal heading for Bath on a Saturday morning in July. Without prior experience with canal boats, but with a few hours of qualified guidance / training of Mike turned out to be a week to remember for both children and adults. A wonderful holiday in totally new but fascinating surroundings. Lazy Fox was a wonderful and well equipped boat that met all our needs during the trip. Despite its size could even we novices, quiet and clean manoeuvre through the locks and Aqueduct, under bridges and swing bridges, or moor at a suitable pub for a nice lunch along the canal. We moved from day to day still and quiet past beautiful and open landscape to Bradford on Avon and then move on to more varied and perhaps even more beautiful surroundings until Bath before returning to Foxhangers. A thank you to all at Foxhangers who made sure everything was set for a wonderful and memorable week at Kennet & Avon canal.

Captain Mr Palshaugen, Norway, Lazy Fox

Hi just a line or two thank everyone at Foxhangers and to let everyone know about the wonderful 4 days we spent on the Lazy Fox. We arrived at Foxhangers on Monday 15th June four nervous pensioners never being on a canal boat before but we were soon put at ease by the welcome we were given by the amazing staff at Foxhangers. We drove down to the boat and unloaded our luggage and when we were ready we were taken through the boat by Richard and had everything explained to us. The boat was very well equipped and spotlessly clean a credit to the Foxhangers staff (please leave it this way when returning) After the initial training we went up to the locks and received more training on emptying, opening and closing the locks nothing was left to chance and all questions answered by Richard in a friendly but professional way. It was then back to the boat and when the Richard was sure that we were happy with what we would be doing we set off. Richard showed how to steer the boat and how to park it up, He then got off and with a cheery wave we set off to tie up for the night by the Three Magpies Pub and have a meal. We then spent the next few days tootling along the canal taking in the amazing views and watching the wildlife. We turned around at Bradford on Avon a lovely place, if you go there visit the lock inn for a meal there's a large variety of food at very reasonable prices. For anyone thinking of going on a canal holiday do not worry about anything go to Foxhangers everything is explained to you there is no rush you will only go when you are ready, we met dozens of friendly people who where always willing to help and give advice in fact we never went through a lock on our own we always went through with others they helped us and we helped them. We will certainly be going boating again and when we do the Kennet and Avon it will certainly be with Foxhangers. One last thing  when you book you will be sent a boaters handbook and a DVD these are a must please read them it will make your trip a lot easier I read the book about five times and a bit more sunk in every time.

Captain Mr Derek Owen, Lazy Fox

Thanks to everyone at Foxhangers for an all round excellent service last week whilst we hired Lazy Fox. It was a great boat and great service and we had a lot of fun. hopefully our fancy dress themes were the talk of the canal last week and that the other boaters we assisted with locks and swing bridges (particularly up Caen hill) appreciated having some additional burly men around! We look forward to the next one and in the meantime I've attached a few photos.
