Foxglove
2 - 4 Berth Narrowboat, Foxy Class
Foxglove is a smaller boat ideal for one or two couples. A member of our superbly equipped Cruiser style Foxy Class.
A 2+2 berth with a large permanent private double cabin located at the front of the boat, followed by the bathroom and galley in the centre. The Saloon and Dining area is aft and can easily convert at night into a second double berth. This popular reverse layout means the helmsman is not isolated from their crew during navigation.
A light and bright Ash veneered wooden interior combines well with carpeted floors giving a modern warm and welcoming feel. Facilities include a toilet and shower, a fully equipped galley and central heating that provides great comfort from March to November.
At 47½ft(14.3m) long she has a bow deck with space to socialise and a Cruiser stern deck which is popular with young families and the less mobile as it offers easier stern access and a seating bench around the stern safety rail for up to 4 people to enjoy during non-cruising times.
Standard breaks for this narrowboat
- Weekend breaks (1:30 pm Fridays to 9:00am Mondays)
- Midweek breaks (1:30 pm Mondays to 9:00am Fridays)
- Weekly, 10/11 day & fortnight breaks (1:30 Monday/Friday afternoons to 9:00am Monday/Friday morning)

Thanks Foxhangers for a fabulous holiday. The boat was lovely and well equipped. We found the holiday relaxing but also active. A great combination. Definitely recommend it to everyone.
Captain Cpt SarahThorne, Foxglove June 2024
What a wonderful experience! Even though it was November and the weather wasn’t the best, we thoroughly enjoyed! The introduction was clear and comprehensive and the boat was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. It was lovely waking up on the canal with the Swans and ducks at your window. The slow pace made you relax and just take in all the scenery. Would highly recommend this holiday and Foxhangers as a company!
Captain Cpt Joanne James, Foxglove November 2023
Despite the rain, we had a great time. The boat was a cozy haven from Storm Ciaran and we cooked some fabulous meals in the galley.
Captain Cpt Christopher Gill, Foxglove October 2023
Really well organised and very professional . It was the first time I had done canal boating and it was just me and my 75 year old mum . Foxhangers did a great in preparing us before we left off on how everything worked and also in sending us notes beforehand as well as tips on good pubs and itineraries . The boat itself was great . I would definitely recommend them .
Captain Cpt John Turner, Foxglove July 2023
Thanks to all the Foxhangers Team. Brilliant boat, wonderful staff, no issues and lovely holiday.
Captain Cpt Dr David Beaumont, Foxglove June 2023
We had a great holiday as first timers! It's something we've always wanted to do and we weren't disappointed. Foxglove was a brilliant boat, really clean and comfortable. All the staff we dealt with at Foxhangers were great and really helpful. We will definitely be back!
Captain Cpt Sunny Elwell, Foxglove April 2023
We had a wonderful trip with Foxhangers. This was our first trip on a narrowboat, although I have been playing about in all sorts of boats over the years. We were sent a comprehensive manual via email before we arrived. The handover on site at the start of the holiday was comprehensive and there was a hard copy of the manual on board, along with the maps. All the staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The boat was very well stocked with items we might have required for the journey. We could not have been better supported for this trip. We look forward to doing it again someday soon.
Captain Cpt Dr John Russell, Foxglove October 2022
Hello, meanwhile we are back in Germany again and sometimes we are still thinking at the great time we had on the boat. Traveling on a Narrow boat is really a thing I strongly recommend to everyone who is looking for "slowing down" in the holidays. You cruise at a speed of 2 or 3 MPH and can enjoy the nature around you. A heron stands at the bank of the canal and remains standing there even If you pass by 3 Meter or so, a lock is waiting for you and you"ll have to to all the work on your own. Doesnt sound like fun, but in fact it is great fun and besides you get in contact with the other boaters. Which is especially for us germans a great oppurtunity to meet some english people and have a nice talk. Getting in contact with "the locals" is much easier than in a Premier Inn....😉 And above all you are amid the nature but have all amenities of modern civilisation. Cooker, oven, Central heating, a warm shower, TV, electricity... everything there. Some words to foxhangers: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Especially the guy who showed and explained the boat was very friendly and explained everything good. So all in all we strongly recommend to rent a boat at foxhangers. Its a great way to spend the vacation and we will definitely do that again 😊
Captain Cpt Matthias Rode, Foxglove October 2022
Having hired different types of boat from many companies over the past 50 years we can say that Foxglove has been one of the best. Impeccably clean and maintained along with very professional service from all staff. Will definitely use again.
Captain Cpt John Martin, Foxglove June 2022
We had an amazing time on foxglove that we hire from Foxhangers. We decided to go west from the hanger as we had only 1 able body to do the locks and didn’t fancy the staircase. We managed them well and truly enjoyed our amazing short journey down to Dundas wharf. The unique scenery and quietness of the river past Bradford Avon was amazing, only wish we had another day to enjoy this uniqueness further. The people we met along the way and the kindness of those we shared time and locks with was lovely. The boat was well set up for us with everything we could need. The run through was good and I couldn't believe we were able to be on our way so quickly. If you have the time to dabble a weekend if great. To really relax and enjoy go for a week. Many thanks to you all.
Captain Cpt L Hancock, Foxglove June 2022
A very enjoyable short break. The boat itself, Foxglove, was excellent and very clean. The handover was detailed but easy to understand. An excellent experience all round.
Captain Cpt Andrew Turton, Foxglove May 2022
Dear All at Foxhangers Thank you so much for giving us the perfect environment (Foxglove) for enjoying the beautiful Kennet & Avon canal. From a thorough but relaxed handover with Mark to a quick and pain free return to yourselves, we wanted for nothing. Very well kitted out. In June, we did need the heating! Tip for newbies, do try and 'buddy up' through the locks. My wife didn't want to initially but was, ultimately, very grateful of the extra help. Standout experience was mooring up just past Avoncliff aqueduct and then walking through meadows along the river Avon, on a lovely sunny evening, to the Inn at Freshford for a meal. A lifelong memory. Many, many thanks, Peter & Jane-Marie Nixon
Captain Cpt Peter Nixon, Foxglove June 2021
We were delighted with our boat, Foxglove. Clean and such a well equipped kitchen. The tuition on arrival was very good and offered us more confidence in handling the steering and operating the locks. The beds were actually more comfortable than our own and I slept soundly every night. And when it was chilly, the heating punched out a very decent heat in minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Foxglove, I think our dogs were chilled out too. We would definitely use Foxhangers again, as the whole experience was seamless and professional. Thank you Foxhangers. Nicky {locks person} and John {captain}
Captain Cpt John Taylor, Foxglove May 2021
A fabulous break, hard but enjoyable work. The boat was clean and very well equipped, the staff attentive, helpful and friendly throughout, from booking to disembarkation. The tuition gave us the necessary basics - and there was plenty to find out for ourselves! I thoroughly recommend Foxhangers for novices and the experienced alike.
Captain Cpt David Slater, Foxglove May 2021
We’ve just had a week onboard Foxglove and it’s been absolutely brilliant. The handover was clear and concise, the boat was spotlessly clean, the galley had everything you could need from a casserole dish to tea pot to washing up liquid and the scenery along the canal was absolutely stunning. There were plenty of wonderful friendly Canal Trust volunteers to help with the locks if needed. We went as far as Sidney Bridge in Bath, turned round and stayed for a couple of nights at Bradford upon Avon and the did a gentle meander back to Foxhangers. If anyone fancies giving a narrowboat holiday a try but is unsure, do it!! It’s a great adventure, we can’t wait to go again.
Captain Cpt Karen Allen, Foxglove May 2021
We had a lovely half term break on Foxglove - the boat was well equipped, warm and comfortable. Good training on arrival and an easy to navigate canal
Captain Helen Davey, Foxglove October 2020
A wonderful peaceful week’s break Foxglove offered us everything we needed for a lovely week away Beautiful scenery and stop off points along route to Bath and back. Met friendly helpful people en route Managed locks bridges and aqueducts with relative ease Perfect way to slow life down.
Captain M Barnett, Foxglove September 2020
We all loved our trip, just three nights but it felt like much longer in a good way, totally away from it all for some great family time before our girls head back to uni. And this was sunrise this morning... stunning!
Captain Mary Smith, Foxglove September 2020
Fantastic barge and excellent service from Foxhangers. Would definitely book again. Thanks very much.
Captain Ms Phoebe Dawkins, Foxglove August 2020
Thank-you very much for looking after us and for the pleasant and efficient interactions that we enjoyed, with all of your staff that we met. Despite the horrendous damage that the virus must have inflicted on your business this year, everybody seemed on top of their jobs and cheerful. Foxglove is an excellent craft and nicely fitted out. The quality of hire boats has come a fair way since I last took a boat some 25 years ago. I was particularly impressed by the plumbing and availability of hot water. We were both impressed by the galley equipment, bringing only our preferred kitchen knives to supplement the impressive inventory. The stretch of the K&A that we enjoyed is sublime – we were bowled over by the natural beauty. Thank-you for the discount and the further offers that you have made. We are discussing a return trip to head East, up the flight, and hope to see you again.
Captain Mr Alan Hill, Foxglove July 2020
On arriving at Foxhangers Wharf Nick assured us we would have a wonderful holiday. On rounding the first bend I was convinced. Such a peaceful relaxing holiday. The boat though satisfyingly simple in design was better equipped than my apartment. We enjoyed working as a team through the locks and met many relaxed helpful friends on our journey. We were to find our boat "FOXGLOVE" had a good reputation on the canal and we received numerous compliments. Thoroughly recommended.
Captain Piers Huggett, Foxglove August 2019
From booking the holiday to returning the Foxglove was a stress free wonderful experience. The Foxglove is a very well equipped boat, the tuition from Billy was very comprehensive and the section of canal to Bradford on Avon was very picturesque. The canal community are very helpful and friendly people, we will definitely be booking with Foxhangers again.
Captain Richards, Foxglove June 2019
One of the best holidays I have ever had!
Captain Randles, Foxglove June 2019
We had a lovely holiday on Foxglove. I went because my husband had been on about going on a narrowboat for years, so I booked it for his birthday. I was so pleased we did, it was so good., Every one we met on the canal, were so friendly and helpful. The staff were really good .The gentleman who went through everything with us was so patient as this was our first time. We will definitely go on another narrow boat holiday I can not recommend it enough. Thank you Foxhangers for such a lovely holiday.
Captain Neeve, Foxglove May 2019
We had a lovely weekend on Foxglove. The staff at Foxhangers were very helpful and we were pleasantly surprised at how well kitted out the boat was. We were very comfortable and enjoyed working the locks and swing bridges to Dunsdale Aqueduct and back. Many thanks
Captain Jacqui & Piers Ibbotson, Foxglove April 2019
We had a wonderful midweek break on Foxglove. We were complete novices but the briefing beforehand was grea,t and gave us the confidence to navigate the canal successfully (until an embarrassing crash landing at the very end!). The boat was very well equipped with everything we needed, and the staff were friendly and helpful, including answering dumb questions on the phone half way through. We highly recommend the K&A canal and Foxhangers.
Captain Sally and Tony Garman, Foxglove April 2019
It was our first time ever narrow boating, and the staff at Foxhangers ensured we had a lovely time. Thank you.
Captain Jane Brooke, Foxglove March 2019
We have just returned from a midweek canal holiday on the Kennet and Avon Canal. We found the whole experience, from booking the holiday to collecting and returning the Narrowboat very easy and stress free. Foxhangers staff were very friendly and helpful from start to finish. Thanks to all at Foxhangers for a really enjoyable experience.
Captain Tracy and Mark Hardman, Foxglove
Hi, Foxhangers team, We had a wonderful long weekend, from the moment that we arrived The staff could not be more helpful and friendly everyone had a smile and we all felt relaxed. Our Barge Foxglove was spotless. After our run through of how a Barge works and more importantly a Lock we felt confident to go it alone. Other families that we met who had also hired Foxhangers Barges were great and we all worked together to do the locks and swing bridges, making us feel part of a bigger team. On our return our car had broken down and the office staff were so lovely, making us coffee while we had such a long wait for the AA If I were to hire again I would not hesitate to use Foxhangers.
Captain Anne Morris, Foxglove
We had such a wonderful holiday, the memories from this we will cherish forever, a big thank you to each and everyone of you, for being such a delight, you were so helpful, helping me to arrange Mick's 50TH. I've attached a few pictures from our last evening and our return to Foxhangers. Keeping my fingers crossed we meet again
Captain Clare and Mick, Foxglove December 2017
We booked this mini break less than a week before we set sail and were not at all disappointed. The staff were all very helpful and efficient, from us booking over the phone, to collecting the boat and returning it at the end of our break. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The boat, Foxglove, was a beautiful traditional style narrow boat. She was very cosy and comfortable with plenty of room for the two of us and our 2 little dogs. The boat was well equipped and everything was clean and well presented with attention paid to the little details. There was a lovely surprise on arrival of a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates in the fridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Foxglove and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Foxhangers We will definitely book with you again as we felt the service was very personal yet very professional.
Captain Deb & Mike Cook, Foxglove October 2017
Just writing to let you know that we had a fantastic time. The boat was comfortable and clean. Your staff were friendly and helpful. The scenery was glorious as were the pubs and towns along the way. The mug is occupying pride of place in the shelf as a reminder of a memorable holiday. Thanks to everyone.
Captain Dom and Christina Blaydon , Foxglove November 2017
Fantastic time a real adventure met some wonderful people. The barge was well equipped everything you need and lots of room. Thanks
Captain Donna Barron, Foxglove September 2017
Many thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable week in glorious autumnal sunshine, with wonderful autumnal colours along the canal. The boat was well equipped and suited our needs perfectly. Thanks also for your flexibility and consideration over the booking when health concerns affected our plans. The holiday proved to be a real tonic.
Captain Anne and Dennis Kell , Foxglove September 2017
I and my 'crew' had an excellent holiday on your boat 'Foxglove' The information you supplied beforehand was very good. On arrival your staff were friendly and helpful. The boat was clean, and the equipment very good. When, during our week we had a problem with the heating, a call to your emergency number rapidly produced an engineer who fixed the problem. I would certainly hire from you again, and recommend you to others.
Captain Mr Edwin Shipp, Foxglove
With over 35 years spent enjoying the Inland Waterways one challenge not achieved until this year was to cruise the Caen Hill flight. My daughter and I recently achieved this during a 4 night hire on Foxglove from Foxhanger Narrowboats. The whole process of making the arrangements was very pleasant and professional compared with my previous experiences of hiring, although the last time was many years ago. (I am now fortunate to be a member of a private boat owning syndicate) On arrival at the base our boat was ready on time and was impressively well presented with even a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine in the fridge. After unloading the car we immediately familiarised ourselves with Foxglove before being joined by Dave who gave a very comprehensive handover. He did know that we were experienced but even so left nothing out in a very detailed and pleasant demo. through the boat and all the installed functions. Once Dave was happy we signed the handover paperwork and set off. Foxglove performs very well and being a 4 berth meant we had plenty of room. In the 4 day trip we not only achieved our main target with time to spare, but also cruised almost to Trowbridge in the other direction meeting the usual mix of very pleasant people on the way. Foxhanger Boats came recommended by a friend who lives near the canal and his good views as to their fleet were no exaggeration. Pleasant people, very professional with a good product is how I would describe Foxhangers Thanks for a great stay
Captain Mike Bonathan , Foxglove
Just back from an excellent long weekend on the Kennet and Avon Canal. We had the narrow boat ‘Foxglove’ from Foxhangers. All was in good order and we had very good information sent through before our cruise together with an excellent introduction from Mike when we arrived. Needing to be back for 9.00 a.m. is not ideal when just having a long weekend but would not matter if hiring for a week or more. Also we understand that starting and finishing times do vary so that some boats do not need to be back until 11.00 a.m. All in all a great way to ‘get away from it all’ and we look forward to hiring again from Foxhangers.
Captain Margaret and David Birch , Foxglove
Dear Sharon & Team Thank you for your email and again a big thank you to everyone who helped us when Alan became ill. It was disappointing that our holiday didn't go as planned but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being on "Foxglove" and it gave us a "taster" of Canal Boating on the Kennet & Avon. It appeared to us that all members of the Foxhangers Crew were not only very helpful but seemed to enjoy their work which for us made for a very comfortable relaxing atmosphere and we would not hesitate to recommend the Company. After having consulted our Doctor here in Spain Alan now has an appointment with a Hospital Consultant next week to decide on further treatment and hopefully he will be back to normal very soon. We would like to think that we could try Foxhangers again but perhaps at a warmer time of year!
Captain Mr & Mrs Blewitt , Foxglove
Hi a few photos of our great weekend on your barge, our first time on a barge, we all are boat people as we have speed boats, and the weekend we went was, so relaxing and enjoyable, lovely pubs on route. Everyone very friendly and helpful. We will defiantly have another barge weekend at some point. Great we can bring our 2 little dogs who loved walking along the toll path with the girls as the boys were driving. The boat was lovely and clean and very well equipped with everything we needed to use. the central heating was a God send for this time of year and worked brilliantly especially when there was a down pour and the boys got really wet!? Thank you from the Edwards And Locks ( yes they really are called Mr & Mrs Lock) and the 2 dogs Hollie & Milo
Captain Mrs Edwards, Foxglove
We had a fantastic week aboard lovely Foxglove from the 5th-12th June 2015. The weather & scenery was beautiful we spent a day in Bath moored on the river & stopped at various pubs along the way all fantastic food. What I must really thank is the amazing staff at Foxhangers as our friends left their camera on board & didn't realise until we got home. A member of staff had to go after the boat & retrieve the camera for us Will definitely holiday with Foxhangers again. Also the dogs loved it
Captain Mrs Thacker, Foxglove
My sister and I (71 and 67 year old) had no experience with boats when we arrived to rent the 47’ “Foxglove” for a week in late May. After our 1 1/2 hour tutorial, we headed West on the canal, terrified despite the assurance that we “would be fine”. The first morning we actually could not start the boat and had to call for help. In ten minutes our Foxhanger “saviour” arrived and not only schooled us, again, on how to start the boat but offered to accompany us through the first swing bridge. Best of all, this assistance was done with a smile. We were soon on our way receiving help and companionship all along the way from Foxhangers to Bath and back. We never had a single problem with the boat and enjoyed the handsome and well-appointed, extremely clean interior. The banks of the canal were lined with yellow iris and other wildflowers, ducks and swans swam beside us and herons flew overhead. This was a magical experience.
Captain Nancy Allen, USA , Foxglove
Thank you we have had an excellent weekend the boat was all we expected and the handover was very prompt on the Friday evening, We would not hesitate to book with you again and would certainly recommend to our friends.
Captain Mrs J Handley , Foxglove
We stayed on Foxglove for a short break during the Easter school holidays. For my daughter (6 years) and I it was our first narrowboat holiday. My husband had some previous experience. I'd like to highly commend Foxhangers staff for making our holiday even more enjoyable. The experience of being on a narrowboat was fantastic in itself but then really enhanced by your staff. Notably the customer service received from Sharon and comprehensive handover received from Mike.
Captain Mrs Firth , Foxglove
We had a lovely weekend on Foxglove. Kevin at the boatyard was very helpful. The boat was excellent and well equipped and everything went smoothly. We would have no hesitation in using Foxhangers again. Many thanks!
Captain The Vaughan’s, Foxglove
We had a fantastic weekend on Foxglove. Had great tuition before taking Foxglove solo, we got as far as Semington, which was not far, but it was our first time on the canals, so great experience opening/closing locks and swing bridges. So well done Foxhangers for a great time on Foxglove and lovely surprise when I opened the fridge and found wine and choc's on board.... a lovely gesture. Also I was daft enough to leave something behind on the boat, and Catherine was kind enough to send it back for me. We would not hesitate in recommending Foxhangers for a fantastic break on the canal.....Great service. Thank you.
Captain Abbi & Graham Roper, Foxglove
Our first time on a canalboat and we found the whole experience very good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the narrowboat well presented with everything we needed. We had a lovely weeks holiday and will be coming back. Many thanks.
Captain Richard & Carol Carey., Foxglove
10 relaxing days on Foxglove. Weather was great most of the time. We have brought back some happy memories. Thanks to all the staff at Foxhangers who were all helpful and welcoming. We will be back next year.
Captain Dave & Jane Langlois, Foxglove
Kitchen was well equipped, the boat spotless, nice staff. Had a good time despite the English weather. Thank you Foxhangers.
Captain , Foxglove
The holiday was immense fun, excellent boat, keep up the good work!
Captain , Foxglove
I booked our holiday week through Foxhangers mainly due to their location to our home address and that they were at the foot of the Devizes fleet of locks. This was a surprise holiday to celebrate our 40th anniversary. My wife and I are in our 60's so I was a bit worried about the physical side of a canal holiday, but Foxhangers were able to reassure me that we would be fine, which is exactly how it turned out. Not only were we surprised at how easy it was to handle the four berth boat by ourselves, at every lock people seemed to appear from nowhere and muck in with the gates and bridges etc. The boat itself was very comfortable and had more than enough space for the two of us, and from the excellent handover and introduction by the marina staff, handling the water ways safely was a lot easier than we thought, just take your time and do it right. Even though there is TV, DVD Freeview on board, apart from the evening "soap fix" we spent most of our time sitting out on the cruiser stern watching the canal life and wild life pass us by, the Kennet and Avon must be one of the most picturesque canals in the UK, simply beautiful. My wife was particularly impressed with the little things that the females seem to pick up on, in the special washing up liquid the salt and pepper and cutlery being just right in number and extremely clean. The surprise box of chocolates and bottle of wine went down a treat although I did try to claim them as my idea, until she read the card!!! Many thanks for a relaxing interesting and informative holiday, we now add canal boat cruising to our list of experience's.
Captain Graeme and Sue JOY, Foxglove
