Foxglacier

Our family had a very enjoyable week taking a gentle cruise to Bath and back on the narrowboat Foxglacier from Foxhangers. The boat was very comfortable and in excellent condition. The galley was extremely well-equipped, with everything you might need to self-cater. The central heating was efficient (it was October!) although there was a restriction on the time it could be used without the engine running. This was not actually a problem for us, just a matter of planning. Generally, all the on-board equipment worked just as it should. The handover at the start of the week from Patrick was very comprehensive and well-conducted. The operation of the boat and its equipment was clearly explained, and he even provided some advice on planning the week (with the all-important turn-round point). I would wholeheartedly recommend Foxhangers to anyone wishing to hire a narrowboat on the Kennet and Avon Canal

Thank you for a wonderful weekend break. We found the staff extremely pleasant, helpful and informative. The narrow boat we hired was well equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans were really excellent quality. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was warm and pristine clean. Although the weather turned colder we found the boat warm enough without heating and didn't even need to use the additional blankets provided. The information pack was very welcoming with all the information we needed for a smooth trip on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Our induction gave us enough confidence to set sail, and we experienced an event free trip. Thank you for the experience and we will definitely recommend your company to anyone wanted to take a holiday on a Narrow boat. We will be back in the future. It was a memorable adventure.

We've just returned from a long weekend on board Foxglacier, two couples in a two double cabin narrowboat with an extra double bed in the saloon if needed. Having two shower rooms was ideal. The layout was good with the en suite cabins towards the aft and the kitchen and saloon at the front. Storage in each cabin would be fine for longer trips too plus there are lots of useful hooks here and there! There were cleaning materials on board including washing up liquid. The heating worked really well, warming up quickly, a necessity on an autumn break. We were a mix of experienced and novice crew so the Kennet & Avon worked well for us - we headed west from the boatyard and experienced swing bridges and just enough locks for a weekend. We had planned to reach Bradford-on-Avon or the Avoncliff Aqueduct and we managed the latter, turning just past it. Thank you to everyone at Foxhangers for helping make our trip such fun, especially Mark who ran through the workings of the boat for us, but everyone was really nice and friendly.

Another (sixth) excellent trip (although short due to young children) with very friendly staff at Foxhangers. We will return.

We all had a wonderful few days aboard Foxglacier with some laughs along the way. Enjoyed the beautiful scenery and were also lucky with the weather, bought some homemade ice cream from dawdling dairy. Lost a shirt drying from the front of the boat when it caught on a bramble and then managed to grab it by the time it reached the stern. The crew all managed the locks and handling the boat, great team effort!

Thank you Foxhangers Team. Very informative demonstration of how to operate the long boat and all the safety briefings. The boat was clean and ready for us to push off once on board. Our extensive family were happy with both the boats (Foxglacier and Foxhunter) and we were fortunate to have great weather.

We travelled for four days and enjoyed every moment and found our boat to be the perfect retreat. We highly recommend Foxhangers and will be visiting again for sure. Our daughters loved their holiday and didn’t want to leave.

We had a great week in Foxglacier. As with our previous hirings from Foxhangers the boat was clean and well equipped for our holiday. A week to travel to Bath and back is just right with no need to hurry and plenty of space on good moorings at this time of year. We will be back. Tim & Maria

I had booked Foxglacier for a midweek break with my cousin and her husband, and I can honestly say that all of us had one of the best times ever, the boat was amazing the canal was interesting, every day was different we loved it from start to finish and would recommend it to anyone even just to try, you will love it, the staff were so friendly and helpful, I am hoping to book another midweek break later in the year for the four of us.

Staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. The boat was very well presented, laid out and a pleasure to use. We had a lovely cruise, helped by some very sunny spring weather. Would totally recommend Foxhangers as a boatyard of choice.

We were very impressed by the cleanliness of the boat and the tuition given to we four novices at the start of our weeks holiday. Would definitely recommend Foxhangers narrow boat holidays!

Thank you so much for the loan of Foxglacier this past week. We all had a great time and enjoyed our time onboard as well as some of the pubs along the way. There was enough of everything but we are glad to be back home and able to sleep in our own beds! The only passenger not to enjoy himself was the dog, who managed to jump out at the Dundas Aqueduct and couldn’t get back onto the bank without help. Sadly he just shivered the rest of the way! So he won’t be back - although we might be! Thank you again for all your efficient staff and I hope we didn’t leave too much dog hair in the boat! Many thanks

We had an amazing holiday aboard Foxglacier. The staff were all so helpful and friendly right from the very first moment. The boat is well appointed with everything you could need. Beds were comfy and although the good weather helped, we never felt cramped even with 7 of us and a puppy on board. We will definitely be back! Special thanks to Sharon for all her help right at the beginning.

A lovely break. Boat lovely, all we wanted, all clean. Easy to handle, and very quiet engine. Got to Bath, good look around, good food. Avon in spait so could not get to Hanham, but that's life. Used time to go to bottom of Caen flight. A most impressive sight. Very good pubs and restaurants en route. Very helpful team at base, both at start, and end of trip. Difficult to suggest any improvements.

A friendly hand over and all arrangements were fine, we had a good week weather wise apart from cold and at times strong winds. Created a few hurdles to jump in navigation skills being blown about. All good fun and boat was otherwise trouble free. So lovely to see the world from a different perspective. Dude our dog loved the experience.

The four of us had a fantastic week on Foxglacier in October. We would highly recommend a boating holiday with Foxhangers. The booking procedure and information about the holiday and boat was very good. Foxglacier was very clean, well equipped and comfortable.

We had a fantastic weekend on Foxglacier. Our first time on a narrow boat, with three generations of family and a dog, we had great fun and bought us all closer. The boat was fitted out with everything we needed even down to salt and pepper. Would thoroughly recommend Foxhangers.

I’d like to thank you all for helping make our weekend on Foxglacier (18/10/19-21/10/19) so enjoyable. All members of staff were friendly and helpful, the boat is superbly equipped and you even organised fab weather for us! It was a great, memorable way to spend my 60th birthday ????

My son, brother, nephew and I had never been on a canal boating holiday so we did know what to expect; what we experienced was wonderful. David's welcome, and briefing, was very much appreciated and Foxglacier provided us with everything we needed. I will certainly suggest a canal boating holiday ideal for those seeking to "get away from it all" and would definitely recommend Foxhangers. For the bank holiday weekend, we hired two narrowboats - Foxhunter and Foxglacier - for our 4 families (8 adults and 8 children (aged 9-11 years)). Boats were immaculately maintained and well-equipped with all the essentials - including washing up liquid, bottle openers, cafetières and bin bags. A good sized fridge and large cooker were a welcome surprise. Liaison with Foxhangers personnel both before the weekend and on arrival was fantastic - very friendly, accommodating and informative, with helpful recommendations on how far we’d travel each day and where to stop to eat. The stretch of canal from Devizes to Dundas aqueduct was absolutely stunning, with enough locks and swing bridges to keep the children busy and enough quiet stretches for some relaxing cruising. Plenty of lovely pubs along the way. We all thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend break. Thank you Foxhangers. :-)

Foxhangers team. Thank you for hiring us Fox Glacier canal boat. It was really comfortable and with everything that we wanted for our 5 day holiday. This was our first time on the canals and it was a great experience for us. We have had the most wonderful time, we ehave enjoyed it very much. The care that you have taken with the boats and the extensive handover by Andrew explained everything for us first timers. A Fantastic time was had by everyone. I would like to thank you for a great introduction to the world of canal boat holidays. The service from Foxhangers was superb with a great introduction and instruction by your staff. The boat was well equipped, clean and provided a comfortable relaxing experience for all. The scenery along the canal was breath-taking and there were plenty of superb watering holes along the route for the boat and its occupants. I would definitely recommend this holiday and next time will bring my dog Winston on board as well!

Our weekend trip aboard Fox Glacier was absolutely brilliant.  Our party of four adults and one child accommodated really well, and all the facilities on our barge were really  good.  The trip we took only got us to Trowbridge, but we will definitely be coming again, and will probably book for a week next time.  All the staff at Foxhangers were very pleasant and informative (Dave).  Thanks again for a great weekend, and we look forward to coming to visit you again soon.

I have hired numerous boats from various yards in the Midlands and the SouthWest, and Foxhangers are right up there for service, quality of boat and attitude. Well done, we all had a fab holiday....

We had a superb week on Foxglacier. Was a bit apprehensive about steering her but after the instruction and a few miles she was a delight to handle. We went to Bath and back at a very leisurely pace and had a great time, the dog also loved it after the first couple of days. Found plenty of nice places to tie up for the night with good access. Well kitted out boat everything worked well. Very comfortable had to put heating on one night this warmed up very quickly.

Upon arriving at the marina I wondered if I had made a mistake getting a boat that long, but no, it handled really well.  I really enjoyed the boat handling, getting a few tons of boat to go exactly where you want is not as hard as I first thought, you just have to think a little ahead. The onboard equipment was spot on, the beds were comfortable and having two bathrooms made for a good holiday.  We made use of the canalside pubs, which all turned out to very nice.  Having only three days effectively, we couldn't go that far, but it was far enough to get the flavour of using the locks and enjoying the K & A canal.  We didn't want to flog ourselves moving the whole time, so we made sure we enjoyed our surroundings. As to 'Foxhangers', the people were just what you want, friendly!  Kevin gave us the handover chat and I thought he did it well.  They were there when we arrived back and talked us back into the berth, painless!  The only thing 'Foxhangers' can take no credit for, the weather.....it was perfect, a classic British sunny June.  It didn't last, on the way home it tipped it down.I'm glad I chose 'Foxhangers', pre-holiday info, communications and product were spot on!

Thanks for making our canal trip on Foxglacier so enjoyable. We hope to return later this year or next.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Monday to Friday hire from Foxhangers.  The staff were pleasant, helpful and informative.  The instructional stuff was pitched at exactly the right level.  The boat was in extremely good condition, well fitted out and very roomy for four of us.  Everything you could need was provided. We would happily recommend Foxhangers to anyone wanting to explore the K&A - they were very competitively priced!

We hired Fox Glacier for a week - start date Monday 15th. April. We liked the boat very much. It is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The welcome on arrival was friendly and helpful and it was nice to be greeted when we returned to the boatyard. We would certainly like to book with you again. This time we took a leisurely trip to Bath. Perhaps in the Autumn we will hire a boat for a fortnight and tackle the flight in the other direction.

Thanks for refunding our damage deposit so efficiently. We had an excellent four night break on Foxglacier. We were most impressed with the standard of the boat and the attention to detail in the furnishing and on-board equipment. The hand-over from your staff was delivered with just the right mix of ease and professionalism and at a level which took into account our previous canal experience. It also gave us the confidence to handle the double locks which we encountered for the first time. The Kennet and Avon is a delightful and varied waterway with some excellent pubs and eating places along it. We would thoroughly recommend both it and your company.

Thanks to the Foxhanger crew for the welcome and the initial training. We left the dock fully confident that we would enjoy our week on the canal. The journey to Bath was fantastic and nothing would match the final stage into Bath. One slight malfunction with the lights was fixed quickly, and on a Sunday too! Hi all at Foxhangers, I feel strongly compelled to let you know what a great time we had on Fox Glacier. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all 6 of us and such a civilised way to spend a weekend! I thought the set-up at Foxhangers was excellent and really efficiently run - I have always been able to get hold of someone on the phone who has been knowledgeable and helpful. Top marks for quality of service. I am out with you again in September and will be recommending the experience to many of my friends and family.

We booked ‘Foxglacier’ for a weekend break in mid-May between six friends, and were impressed by Foxhangers’ staff, who were welcoming, helpful, organised and informative. The boat itself was clean, comfortable and very well equipped with plenty of storage space. We achieved our goal of climbing the Caen Hill (seemingly endless) staircase of locks on the first afternoon/evening. After that it was all plain sailing! Foxhangers were happy to provide us with extra lifejackets for some family friends with young children who came to visit us for a bbq during the trip. After so much rain in the preceding weeks, we were lucky to enjoy warm sunshine every day - with just a light shower on our final, homeward stretch on the Monday morning. It was a brilliant few days and we would love to return to this beautiful area, hopefully for a week’s hire next time, when we’d like to head west towards Bath.

Just to say the Brooks & Voisey families & our dog Jake had a truly wonderful long weekend staying on the Fox Talbot, we were pleasantly surprised that this boat had everything onboard that we needed, kitchen although compact had a wealth of kitchen utensils and we wanted for nothing. The weather was great which helped a lot and the peace at this time of year ( March ) was fab and a welcome bonus. Definitely a trip to be remembered and repeated. Thanks to you and the helpful staff for making our trip safe and memorable.

Four of us had a short break on Fox Glacier last weekend of June 2008. We are two couples who had never been on a canal boat before. When we arrived we were very apprehensive and wondered if we had perhaps bitten off more than we could chew. Our fears were groundless. Your induction was very professional but at the same time an entertainment in itself. When we set off we soon found we could actually do it! First we learned how to go through locks and swing bridges; a little later how to get unstuck with the barge poles; then how to park without falling in. Last how to turn round. A great thrill! A small technical problem was dealt with immediately by your extraordinarily helpful people including chauffeuring us to the best pub dinner we have ever had! We had an absolutely splendid break! We are hooked!. We are telling all our friends you've gotta do it!

Thanks for a lovely relaxing holiday. Went up the Caen Hill locks which was a fantastic experience and then onto Hungerford where we turned round.(106 locks in total for week). Staff were very friendly and the boat was excellent. Hope to hire from them again in the future.

Just like to say we had an absolutely fabulous mid week break on your Foxglacier narrowboat. We have had a holiday before with you which is the reason why we returned to hire the larger Foxglacier. My sister and her husband accompanied us on this holiday - they had never been on a canal narrowboat holiday before. They loved it. My husband has been on several canal holidays before but this is my third time. We hope to hire one of your canalboats again.

We are home again and back into the usual routine. We want to thank everyone at Foxhangers for another great experience on the canals. Foxglacier handled like a dream - the best of any boat so far. Cheers
