Hi Sharon Sorry it's been so long in saying thanks. Everyone at Foxhangers was brilliant helping make our holiday and my wife's birthday so memorable. The hiding of the lifejacket was brilliant.
Captain Cpt Andy Foy, Foxcub July 2024
We had a wonderful time on the Kennet and Avon canal from 20th of May 2023 to 27th of May 2023. Besides the beautiful weather, we really enjoyed boating on the Foxcub from Foxhangers. The boat was fully equipped. The reception and explanation by the start was very friendly and professional. When we had an issue with the cooling water level in the engine, a mechanic arrived promptly to solve the problem. If you are looking for a relaxing way of traveling on the Kennet and Avon canal we certainly will recommend Foxhangers. We enjoyed it a lot and also Flupke (our Parson terrier) had a great time. Almost all pub’s were dog-friendly and the tip’s in the provided manual were clear.
Captain Cpt Perer Van Bergen, Foxcub May 2023
Very efficient and informative handover.Perfect location to start for a trip down to Bath and back.Lovely stop at Bradford on Avon and some nice pubs too. Enough locks and swing bridges to keep you active and lovely scenery en route. A great weeks holiday.
Captain Cpt Douglas Bick, Foxcub September 2022
We greatly enjoyed our week on Foxcub. The handover instructions were excellent and covered every aspect of operating the boat. The boat was very well equipped and very clean. We expect to be back!
Captain Party Name Cpt Rod Allday, Foxcub June 2022
Both my daughter and I were most impressed with the efficient organisation and the very comprehensive equipping of our little cub which made our holiday so enjoyable. Neither of us had handled a narrowboat before, but the instructions given were clear and simple. No major disasters and by the end of the week we had got the hang of handling it
Captain Cpt I Douglas-Jones, Foxcub May 2022
We have just had a fantastic holiday aboard Foxcub narrowboat, was a bit stressed first couple of days only because i didn't know what i was doing. But by the 3rd day everything just seemed to click and it was amazing, missing the little boat already. Wanted to thank Andrew who showed us the ropes when we arrived also the man who's name we didn't know but sounded like he had an south african accent, also big thankyou to Nick who gave us a lift to the bus stop to get the bus home because we don't drive. Everyone is just so lovely and friendly, didn't want to come home, missing the peace & quiet. Once again thank you so much for a wonderful holiday, miss you all. We will be back.
Captain Cpt Belinda Bartlett, Foxcub May 2022
Just returned from our second holiday on Foxcub. Lovely little boat just right for the two of us. Adult daughter joined us for the second part of the week and was comfortable on the couch bed. Kennet and Avon beautiful and made for a relaxing week - especially as our confidence at handling the boat had grown.
Captain Cpt Claire Gillingham, Foxcub September 2021
We were very impressed with the smooth administration of our booking. On arrival the boat was well presented and we were given a thorough briefing, with care being taken by Mark not to “teach Granny”! Mark also responded promptly when we had technical problems and got us on the move again within 3 hours of call out. We would be happy to recommend Foxhangers to new and experienced boaters alike and would certainly consider rebooking at some time in the future.
Captain Cpt Robert Crighton , Foxcub July 2021
Dear Foxhangers, You made our first narrowboat trip for over 30 years, go with ease. The loading of the boat was effortless with drive-up facility. The instruction was clear and unambiguous with the offer of additional support if required as we made our passage. The vessel Foxcub was perfect for 2 people and the week long holiday enabled us to effortlessly get to Bath and back with long afternoon relaxation after a morning's boating. The route has plenty of choice for all for individual requirements with quiet stopovers "wild mooring" or for those needing lively locations city, town & village facilities. Foxhangers has the ideal location for exploring East (lots of locks) or West (8 locks to bath). If you want a hassle free holiday Foxhangers is that narrowboat rental company. Captain Cpt Paul Twine, Foxcub May 2021
Dear Sharon We had a lovely holiday, and I want to thank you, Nicky and Caroline for all your help with the booking process and guidance on the lockdown situation, not to mention our late arrival due to a puncture! Thanks too to Mike and the Scottish guy at the boatyard (didn't get his name), and especially to Ray for coming out to fix our heating. We will certainly recommend Foxhangers to any friends who are thinking of a holiday on the K&A, and hope to be back ourselves before long. I had plenty of boating experience from family holidays many years ago, but this was my first time as captain. It was Simeon's first trip, and he is now a competent steersman, expert lock and swing bridge operator, and canal enthusiast. Best wishes to all of you during the winter break, and in the hope of a more normal 2021!
Captain Rob Cooper, Foxcub October 2020
Hello Foxhangers We hired Foxcub from 17/10/20 to 24/10/20 and would like to thank you for an amazing holiday. The tuition we received from Kevin on arrival was excellent and gave us the confidence to enjoy our first ever experience on a narrow boat. This tuition was clearly much better than other boat hire companies in the area as we had to 'rescue' two separate hire boats who had got into difficulties and had absolutely no idea what to do. Our boat Foxcub was perfect for our first trip and had everything onboard that we required for the week. The information provided by Foxhangers prior to our trip was extremely helpful including tuition video through YouTube.. This was a fantastic experience and holiday and we learnt so much in a short space of time. We would thoroughly recommend Foxhangers and we will definately be repeating our experience with you in the future.
Captain Kevin and Sandra Dawes, Foxcub November 2020
We had a fab week onboard Foxcub. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and everything on board was ready. The boat was kitted out thoughtfully and there was nothing we needed that we didn’t find. Kevin’s introduction was just right. He gave us all the information needed in a calm and friendly manner and answered all our questions informatively. Some evenings we ate on board and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking a proper meal. The bed was comfortable, and we certainly slept well. The scenery was wonderful and made it a week to remember. Thank you Foxhangers.
Captain Wendy Carpenter, Foxcub October 2020
"Our fortnight's holiday on Foxcub (our favourite boat throughout our twenty years as customers of Foxhangers) started just before the coronavirus crisis started in earnest. During our trip, shops, pubs, and, eventually, the tow path closed. It was surreal. Throughout this strange and worrying time, however, the staff at Foxhangers, who will have had their own worries, supported us in their usual professional way. By way of example, when we had slight problem with the engine control, staff were with us within minutes. All in all, brilliant. Thanks, and see you next time!"
Captain Dr Gordon Morris, Foxcub March 2020
We had a great week on the Foxcub, it was a lovely boat and so well equipped. I’d bought ordnance survey maps for our trip and needn’t have bothered as Foxhangers had supplied them! I couldn’t fault the boat in any way, easy to handle and everything you needed onboard. We went down to Bath and back and stopped off at some beautiful places on route. I would highly recommend Foxhangers, the staff were so friendly and helpful. I hope to book the Foxcub again soon.
Captain Bridget Hayes, Foxcub
We had a very enjoyable week aboard 'Foxcub', cruising up to Bath and back. As it was our first time on the canal, we were initially a little bit anxious about having to negotiate the locks and bridges on our own, however the tuition from the extremely knowledgeable and engaging Billy at the marina was fantastic. We had opportunity to work a lock, ask lots of questions and get to grips with the theory side of things, as well as learn about boat safety and etiquette before we were set off on our way. You soon realise that locks are a lot of fun, and after successfully moving through a couple, your confidence soon grows. I especially enjoyed the physical aspect as well as the camaraderie involved when you share locks with other boats, it's all very sociable. The boat itself was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The galley had everything we needed, including a great little gas oven and hob, a decent sized fridge, and cupboards for groceries. There were even some very useful waterproofs which came in useful at Avoncliffe during a very heavy downpour. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept very well each night after all the fresh air. My husband really enjoyed being skipper of the Foxcub, and carrying out the necessary safety checks each day, whilst I soon became a dab hand with the locks and helping to moor the boat. The whole experience of being aboard was really a lot of fun. We found the Kennet and Avon canal a very welcoming place to be for our week aboard, and the people we met who live along it were really friendly and offered us great tips and advice. There are plenty of good pubs to stop to eat along the way, but it was also lovely to be able to fix your own drinks and meals in the galley which is conveniently situated at the stern of the boat. I think this is a great feature of the Foxcub and it meant for us as an inexperienced crew I could put the kettle on and make a sandwich in the galley but only be a couple of steps away if I was needed to assist the skipper! Thank you to all at Foxhangers, for a great experience, from beginning to end it was fabulous. We would definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone considering a canal boat holiday.
Captain Penny and Simon Keepence, Foxcub
A call the day after booking asking what bedding was required added a personality touch. When we arrived, the staff we met were very helpful and easy to work with. Our break was very relaxing, even though it was cold for the time of year, we had a great time.
Captain Paul Evans, Foxcub
A wonderful week on little Fox Cub, travelling from Devizes to Bath, locks, swing bridges, aqua ducts all part of the journey, a learning curve. Great wild life kingfishers, otters, water voles, moorhens & cygnets & ducklings wishing to be fed. Painted orchids, yellow flags, marigolds plus many photographs. Staff helpful, welcoming & very efficient. We met family on route who cycled or walked along the well kept tow path & enjoyed watching folk who lived permanently on a large variety of boats, also local people who used the canal banks as part of their life- joggers, mums with babies in pushchairs, cyclists, fisherman, workers, children going to school, dog walkers etc. Travelling through life at 2 miles an hour was bliss no doubt sunshine also helped.
Captain Anna Eldred, Foxcub
We were very impressed with our welcome from your staff on our arrival and their guidance in handling Foxcub which was unbelievably well-equipped. As for the 'voyage', it was fantastic and exceeded our expectations. The pace of life slowed as we meandered along tree-lined stretches and enjoyed the scenery. We were able to enjoy both our time with the boat at our own pace and the satisfying challenge of learning to handle her and the locks. Brilliant, I can't wait for my next trip.
Captain Mrs Morns, Foxcub
Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know that due to the fantastic boating holidays we have had with Foxhangers boats we've now bought our own! We'll be sure to wave hello should we pass the Foxhangers marina.
Captain Jackie Ralphson , Foxcub
This was our first ever narrow boat holiday. Customer service was second to none, from booking to leaving our little Foxcub. We had a little mishap and lost all steering Dave came out to rescue us much quicker than the AA. We had the best time, the boat had everything we could need and the whole week was fantastic can't wait to have our next relaxing break. The scenery and great people we met at the locks and just passing on the Canal it was better than we imagined. Thank you to everyone at Foxhangers. See you soon
Captain Mrs J Stoddart, Foxcub
Had an enjoyable week. Very pleased with boat and contents, layout and cleanliness. Hope to return next year
Captain Mrs Tapping, Foxcub
I just wanted to say what a great time we had and how well equipped and clean the boat was. The introduction at the start was very good, considering this was our first time and we felt that we did pretty well considering. We went all the way to Bath and back in about 4 days so we decided to then tackle the Caen locks and went all the way to Devizes and back in time for delivering the boat back after 6 days of boating. I believe we did about 34 locks on our last day plus several swing bridges. Plenty of kingfishers were seen and the aqueducts and canal side pubs were great!
Captain Mr Richard Hollingsworth, Foxcub
We had a relaxing time in Foxcub during a beautiful May week of slow cruising to Dundas and back. Our fifth holiday with Foxhangers - well be back for our sixth!
Captain Mr G Morris, Foxcub
We had a brilliant time on the Kennet and Avon - we very quickly got the hang of navigating, and the training provided was really useful. People we met on the canal were really helpful and friendly and Foxcub was exceptionally clean and the facilities were great. The boat was surprisingly spacious and we very quickly made her feel like home! In one week we managed to make it to Froxfield in Berkshire and back to Seend Cleeve for dinner on Friday night before returning the boat on Saturday morning. We would definitely book with Foxhangers again if we return to the K&A. Many thanks for a brilliant holiday!
Captain The Dewey Party, Foxcub
My holiday on Foxhanger's little boat, Foxcub, was memorable for numerous reasons but especially seeing a Kingfisher close up; herons, unafraid of approaching boats and the delight of moving through beautiful countryside and arriving in places of interest such as, Dundas, Bath and Bristol. The Narrow boat was well equipped and comfortable allowing me to feel I had enjoyed a really relaxing but active holiday.
Captain Brown-Hovelt, Foxcub
Thank you for such a lovely holiday on Foxcub August 13th-17th 2012. We had such a great time - everyone on the canal was so friendly and ready to help, and Foxcub was wonderful - only little but containing everything we needed. I think the fox on the tiller also liked the addition of a rather fetching red feather boa that we created for him for the trip. Thank you for an excellent briefing before we left off as well, which we definitely required!
Captain S C & N D, Foxcub
We were so impressed with Foxhangers from the minute we booked. Receiving such a comprehensive pack in the post prior to our holiday we knew the company was one we could trust. And with the convenience of being able to book groceries for our arrival, which were great, just added to the great service. They have thought of everything and our boat Foxcub was lovely and was equipped with everything you could possibly need. Thank you for a great holiday.
Captain The Jackson Family, Foxcub
Excellent Holiday aboard the 'Foxcub' (6/6/10-13/06/09) Ideal size for first timers.
Captain Peter, Foxcub
Just wanted to thank you all for such a wonderful holiday on Foxcub - our beautiful, comfortable narrowboat for a week in July. All the little touches such as the bed being made up, wine and chocolates in the fridge and the first class boat induction when we picked up Foxcub were superb, and all the staff were very helpful and attentive. Our boat was spotlessly clean and the inventory on the boat was also excellent - we didnt even have to bother buying cleaning fluids - you thought of everything. We even hired our towels! We will recommend you all highly to friends and relatives and look forward to holidaying again.
Captain Leona Reiter, Foxcub
