Foxhunter
6 - 9 Berth Narrowboat, Foxy Class
Foxhunter is a large boat ideal for just two couples wanting the luxury of space or big groups up to nine people. A member of our superbly equipped Cruiser style Foxy Class.
A 6+3 berth with 3 permanent private sleeping cabins that will accommodate up to 6 people, 2 cabins have fixed double beds and the other cabin has 2 adult sized single bunks. The galley, saloon and dining area are towards the front where another 3 people can sleep as it easily converts at night into a third double berth and third single bed. This traditional layout allows the main sleeping cabins to be out of the way from the social areas in the saloon and outside bow deck as well as offering the views tranquil views through the windows and front doors.
A light and bright Ash veneered wooden interior combines well with carpeted floors giving a modern warm and welcoming feel. Facilitates include 2 toilets, 2 showers/hipbath, a fully equipped galley and central heating provides great comfort from March to November.
Along with her sister boat Foxterrier they are the largest Cruiser style boats in our Foxy Class at 69ft(21m) long. Our Cruiser stern decks are popular with young families and the less mobile as they offer easier stern access. They have a seating bench around the stern safety rail for up to 4 people to enjoy during non-cruising times.

- Weekend breaks (1:30pm Fridays to 9:00am Mondays)
- Midweek breaks (1:30pm Mondays to 9:00am Fridays)

Great boat , everything worked , and people there very nice to deal with.
Captain Cpt Brian Harlock, Foxhunter October 2024
This was really an experiment to see if I could manage and live aboard a narrowboat. I hired “ Foxhunter”, a 69 foot boat, superbly equipped with everything needed to live aboard. Comfortable, warm and roomy. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water for showers, washing up, etc. USBs and outlets throughout the boat to keep mobile devices charged, excellent, helpful staff to welcome, assist and explain everything in detail. Altogether, a great and positive experience. I’m now looking for a narrowboat to live on
Captain Cpt Phil Griffiths, Foxhunter August 2024
I just wanted to say thank you very much to the Foxhangers team. We had the most fantastic four nights aboard Foxhunter for the bank holiday weekend. It’s 30 years since our last canal holiday, and it’s always been my dream to have another with the kids. It was great to enjoy the tranquillity of the Kennet and Avon from the comfort of our own boat, and we’re looking forward to booking with you again. Xx
Captain Cpt Jenny Clarke, Foxhunter May 2024
12 of us have had an amazing short break on Foxhunter and Foxhound. Many first timers, under 25 who LOVED it. Thank you so much all at Foxhangers. We will be back!
Captain Cpts Mark & Claire Wilson, Foxhunter September 2024
This is the Fifth time I have used Foxhangers to hire Canal boats, once with Family & Four time with Work colleagues, every time it is the most relaxing holiday, the boats are always prepared, tidy & well presented. We will definitely be using Foxhangers again, Thankyou, from all of us..
Captain Cpt Steve Weeks, Foxhunter May 2024
Another fantastic short break with Foxhangers. The handover was smooth and the barge was beautifully clean and well prepared, with all the beds made up. We had a wonderful trip to Claverton and back. The kids were exhausted and happy after all the locks and swing bridges! Looking forward to our next holiday!
Captain Cpt James bowen, Foxhunter April 2024
We had a lovely weekend on Foxhunter and Foxterrier to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. There were eight adults and six children and a beagle puppy. The boats were roomy and comfortable. Good showers and kitchen facilities. We elected to eat in and took quite a lot of prepared food and all squashed into the living area which was fun. It was a great way to please all ages as everyone could help in some way with locks and swing bridges and the pace of life was great. Thank you.
Captain Cpt R Sadler, Foxhunter September 2023
We had a super time. The staff were very helpful and professional, and the boat was very well fitted out. highly recommended!
Captain Cpt Tim Bowden, Foxhunter September 2023

Captain Cpt Glen Barton, Foxhunter August 2023
The whole process from booking to collection of the boat was very well handled with a lot of useful information being supplied in advance. The competency training was thorough and the week went well. Return of the boat was straightforward and made for a very enjoyable holiday. 2 of our younger crew are already wanting to make this an annual event!
Captain Cpt Ian Bishop, Foxhunter September 2023
Thank you Foxhangers Team. Very informative demonstration of how to operate the long boat and all the safety briefings. The boat was clean and ready for us to push off once on board. our extensive family were happy with both the boats (Foxglacier and Foxhunter) and we were fortunate to have great weather.
Captain Cpt Primal Patel, Foxhunter July 2023
Very happy with our Foxhangers experience, 8 of us hired the foxhunter boat and set sail for bath over a weekend. Everything we needed was on the boat including maps, raincoats and cutlery. We do annual boat trips and so far Foxhangers has been by far the best boat, friendliest staff and nicest location. Highly recommend to everyone and will be back!
Captain Cpt Charlie O’Rourke, Foxhunter July 2023
Hi Rob & Foxhangers Team, Thank you for a lovely holiday in your great boat, we’ve had a brilliant time!
Captain Cpt Victoria Sharpe, Foxhunter June 2023
Thank you Foxhangers. Another wonderful weekend on your boat Foxhunter. The process from booking in at reception, the detailed review of the boat and safety talk (thank you Pat) to getting behind the Tiller and casting off was extremely smooth and gave us the confidence to tackle the various locks and swing bridges. The boat itself was very well equipped and we will certainly be back again next year.
Captain Cpt Emma Ashworth, Foxhunter May 2023
My family, friends & I hired a 69’ Foxhangers narrowboat for 7 days in July 22. The guys at the boat yard were excellent in preparing the boat and guiding us on its use. We are fairly experienced at barging but found the re-fresher instructions really useful. The barge was in good condition with everything fully functional and off we set. We headed up the Caen Hill locks, having always wanted to do this stretch of the K&A Canal. It was far less difficult that we had envisaged and made it to the pub in good time. We carried on for 26miles, enjoying the fantastic scenery & visiting one great pub after another before turning around and heading back to the Foxhangers Yard. Coming down Caen Hill was a lot easier than going up given that we seemed to be the only ones using the canal that day. Handover at the end of the trip was as painless as collection. We would highly recommend Foxhangers and the K&A Canal, were looking to return sometime soon to do the western stretch out to Bristol & would definitely use Foxhangers again.’
Captain Cpt Guy Osborne, Foxhunter July 2022
Thank you Foxhangers. We all had a fabulous week and a lot of that is due to your help, support and advice. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the whole experience
Captain Cpt Dr Paul Unwin, Foxhunter June 2022
We had a fantastic holiday on the Foxhunter. We had a booking in early 2020 which had to be postponed due to the first COVID lockdown, and we were finally able to make the trip from the USA in April 2022. Foxhangers was very understanding on working with us to retain our booking and to reschedule when international travel had opened back up. The boat was perfect for our group of friends, and the pickup and drop-off went very smoothly. There were no mechanical problems or other issues with the boat, it just did what we needed it to do with no hassle. Everything seemed well maintained and cared for. We loved gradually making our way west along the canal, stopping for pub meals and explorations of the towns and villages on the way, and the week booking gave us time to spend 2 nights moored on the Avon in Bath with a full day to explore the city, and to never feel hurried on the days we were moving the boat. We may return in the future and tackle the Caen Hill Flight on a Foxhangers boat!
Captain Cpt James Inge, Foxhunter April 2022
Hi and a massive thankyou to everyone at Foxhangers from the first initial call to the end of the holiday you excelled yourselves so helpful and attentive nothing was too much trouble and very helpful all the time. The induction was informative and helpful again any question was not a silly question safety was very important to your staff and we started the canal boat trip with confidence and knowledge we hadn’t known before. On returning our boat staff was there with a warm welcome and once again so so helpful thank you all once again
Captain Cpt Tom Marshall, Foxhunter March 2022
Hi We had great holiday and liked the situation of the boat yard. We had some first timers on board and the Kennet and Avon is amazing for the variety of locks, swing bridges and aqueducts. So much in a short distance. The engineer was very helpful too when I spoke about our toilets and gave us advice. Sharon was a great help in the office too and I felt reassured during the whole Covid issue, as we were due to go last year. If we chose to go on the Kennet and Avon again, we would be very happy to use Foxhangers.
Captain Cpt Sandra Bowden., Foxhunter October 2021
Nine people, (three generations), aged 71 down to 12, + 2 dogs and we all had fantastic time on s short break aboard Foxhunter. From arrival at the Foxhangers Wharf to our departure we were well looked after by the staff. Loading and unloading went smoothly and Foxhunter was equipped with everything we needed once on board. A fun time, recommended by us all. Thank you Foxhangers.
Captain Cpt Pete Squire, Foxhunter August 2021
Had a lovely week on Foxhunter Canal Boat. Went with our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. We all enjoyed looking for the wildlife on the way to Bath and back. We had great fun opening and closing the locks and swing bridges.
Captain Mrs Georgina Glover, Foxhunter August 2020
On arrival we were impressed with the quick and efficient handover as we had advised that we were experienced boaters, also the 13.30 start time gave us a wider choice of stopping places for the first night. The arrival back at the base was also handled in a friendly and professional manner. Our boat Foxhunter handled very well and did not let us down in any way, the extra room in the Saloon area was very useful, altogether a very enjoyable trip. Thank you all at Foxhangers.
Captain John Stobbart, Foxhunter
Just returned from a great weekend (Fri-Mon) booking. Very good pre-arrival communication and then the on-board briefing from Nick was excellent. Boat was very clean and well equipped. Foxhangers are a very friendly and flexible company, which we would definitely use again. Many thanks!
Captain Scully, Foxhunter
We had a lovely time our grandsons loved the whole idea traveling on the canal and sleeping on the boat. We had to cut short our stay as our son in law had to return to work, but our two grandchildren loved it
Captain Valerie Regan, Foxhunter
For the bank holiday weekend, we hired two narrowboats - Foxhunter and Foxglacier - for our 4 families (8 adults and 8 children (aged 9-11 years)). Boats were immaculately maintained and well-equipped with all the essentials - including washing up liquid, bottle openers, cafetières and bin bags. A good sized fridge and large cooker were a welcome surprise. Liaison with Foxhangers personnel both before the weekend and on arrival was fantastic - very friendly, accommodating and informative, with helpful recommendations on how far we’d travel each day and where to stop to eat. The stretch of canal from Devizes to Dundas aqueduct was absolutely stunning, with enough locks and swing bridges to keep the children busy and enough quiet stretches for some relaxing cruising. Plenty of lovely pubs along the way. We all thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend break. Thank you Foxhangers. :-)
Captain Mr Michaelides , Foxhunter
We had a great time on Foxhunter, went to Bath and then back to Devizes to get in the Caen Hill flight. Wharf and Office staff very friendly, efficient and helpful. Can recommend them to anyone
Captain Alan Barclay, Foxhunter
We all left the boatyard feeling pretty high after a great weekend on the water. Once we had learned to cut a straight line, we were off! The boats were really well equipped and comfortable - and the Foxhangers staff were great to deal with. Thanks!
Captain Luke Chitty , Foxhunter
Had a great time, we will come back again to Foxhangers.
Captain Mr Harris-Jarvis , Foxhunter
We had a wonderful weekend! The staff at Foxhangers, from pre-booking all the way through to instructing us on the boat, were kind and so helpful. The boat itself was really well equipped and had everything we needed. There were 6 of us and there was plenty of room. A huge big thank you from all of us - you've given us all so many happy memories.
Captain Mrs C Ryder , Foxhunter
Lovely clean boat. We had a good time - six of us. Ideal for small crowd. Would recommend it. Foxhangers was a good and professional company.
Captain Christopher & Jackie James , Foxhunter
What a great holiday. Nine of us on board plus a dog. Accommodation cosy but comfortable. Enjoyed the challenge of the Caen Locks. Staff excellent from pre booking through to return. 10/10.
Captain Mrs K King , Foxhunter
Despite far from perfect weather we had a most enjoyable mid-week break on Foxhunter this August. The boat was spotless, the beds/bunks were comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean with everything supplied as promised. What more can I say. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we all enjoyed ourselves including my grandson's greyhound.
Captain Mr Curwen, Foxhunter
Our family canal boating weekend was fantastic! We had two boats and it was the first time we had ever done such a thing. Foxhangers was the perfect choice with regards to easy of booking, information provided, flexibility and customer service. Plus, the location for picking up the boats and training made it very easy. The boats were well equipped, clean and a pleasure to use and stay on. Foxhangers are a very professional, friendly company and we can certainly recommend them and we will be booking again. Thank you for making our holiday very memorable.
Captain Mrs Terrey, Foxhunter
Many thanks to the folks at Foxhangers for the wonderful vacation! We have vacationed many places and venues but the experience on the canal barge was truly unique and enjoyable. It gives everyone a chance to participate in navigating the canals, opening locks and swing bridges on a very well appointed barge while setting your own schedule. It was our first time and although a bit nervous negotiating a 69 foot barge through traffic and locks we soon became very comfortable and confident - especially with all the folks who offered to help along the way.
Captain Mr E Miller , Foxhunter
Fantastic weekend. Foxhangers staff were very friendly and professional in showing us around the boats and then left us to our own devices. The boats were excellent quality and perfectly equipped for the weekend. Would certainly recommend. A massive thank you to the team at Foxhangers!
Captain Mr Pelly , Foxhunter
Once again many thanks for another enjoyable time on the K&A Canal, with Foxhangers. What can I say, all Staff were absolutely kind to us, booking was simple, Foxhunter was just as expected and more and we managed to stop at a different pub every night! Even managed to supply us with good weather, what more could we ask. Will have no hesitation in booking with you again and will definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone who asks.
Captain The Hazell Family , Foxhunter
8 of us had a wonderful long weekend, very relaxing. Foxhangers could not have been nicer or easier to deal with. Thank you for making it so relaxing. We will definitely be back!
Captain Callan , Foxhunter
We spent Monday to Friday of last Week July 2014 onboard Foxhunter and travelled from Foxhanger Wharf to Bath. We had the most amazing time ever and we will definitely be coming back. We were fortunate enough to have amazing weather and the week was so relaxing. We will definitely be coming back and doing this again, the facilities onboard the boat were fantastic and I would recommend this to anyone thinking of doing a canal holiday.
Captain The Howell’s, Foxhunter
Thank you for a lovely holiday - we will definitely be back again!
Captain May Family , Foxhunter
Six cousins and two lucky husbands (all of a certain age and more!) took Fox Hunter for three days on 22 April and we want to tell you that we had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect and, although we did not go very far, every mile was lovely. Your service was exemplary and the boat facilities excellent. Just wish we had thought in time to have Tshirts made! Many thanks from all of us
Captain Gay Nealon, Foxhunter
We found the Foxhangers staff very friendly and helpful. In fact another reason for choosing Foxhangers was the helpful advice we received on the phone before we even booked our holiday. Foxhunter was a lovely boat and was very well equipped. It was really useful to have a list of equipment sent to us in advance, so that we knew what to take with us. We liked the layout of the boat; it was great to be able to keep the table up in the seating area and still be able to get past easily. The weather was quite cold - there was a sharp frost a couple of nights - but the boat was nice and warm. The small bath was a real advantage for the younger children. We liked the fact that the fuel was included in the original cost of the holiday. We would like to come back in the future and go west towards Bath.
Captain C and I families, Foxhunter
Thank you very much for a wonderful week on the good ship foxhunter. The three generations of our family had a brilliant week aboard especially my twin eight year old girls who thoroughly enjoyed working the locks on our way to Bath. The highlight of the week for me was negotiating the Bath locks especially the Deep lock and turning the boat around up next to Bath weir under full gaze of sightseers. Although we ran aground our training from Chris was second to none and if we still didn't know what to do the local "canallers" would step right in to give us a gentle prod in the right direction. Bombing along at 2mph has never been so much fun. Again many thanks and we certainly look forward to seeing you again next year - roll on the Caen hill locks.
Captain The Bartlett and Tustain family, Foxhunter
My friends and I hired Foxhunter in May 2011, the second year we've been with foxhangers. The boat is well laid out and is perfect for a weeks holiday, the staff are friendly and we had a great time, again. Thank you.
Captain Chris Povey, Foxhunter
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for an excellent experience on board Foxhunter. It was a shame that my aunt decided against joining us, but it may well have been the correct decision after all. Message just received from my 80 year old mother .............. Well, wasn't that a great weekend? Wonderful weather, wonderful food, wonderful organisation, and I wonder whose idea it was?! ............ and now we get this gift from our lovely children, what lucky people we are. Endless thanks and love must come your way. So I think she enjoyed it! With thanks
Captain Sue, Foxhunter
Extremely enjoyable, very professional outfit, wonderful settings and the children (9/10/12/14) up for the Caen Hill locks next year! - The 69ft "Foxhunter" would have been a lot harder to manoeuvre if it had not been for the excellent tuition given. All thoroughly enjoyed it we will be keen to return next year and book a Silver fox.
Captain The Papa's, Foxhunter
A fantastic holiday on Foxhunter for a week from 13th July. We had eight on board, aged from 68 to 5, and we all loved it. The 9 year old fell in the first day, but then said he thought he had learnt his lesson! The boat was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed, and we much appreciated the wine and chocolates in the fridge. The locks and swing bridges kept us all busy, and the 5 year old enjoyed steering the boat, with a little help from her father. It is a beautiful canal, with lots to see and do, and I would thoroughly recommend a Foxhanger canal holiday to anyone. Thank you so much.”
Captain Belinda and crew, Foxhunter
Spent a fantastic four fun packed days moseying up to Bath - great pubs on route and plenty of exercise to keep the waistline at bay. Boat warm and comfortable and remarkably easy to handle most of the time - even by a four year old!!!!! Managed a full cooked breakfast for eight every morning from the well equipped galley.Cold but sunny and, even though we awoke to ice on the inside of the windows, were extremely snug under the great duvets! Definitely want to return and get through Bath next time!! Highly recommended!!!
Captain The Strilkowski's and The King's , Foxhunter
