4 - 7 Berth Narrowboat, Silver Fox Class
Flying Fox is medium sized boat ideal for two couples, although her flexible bed options also suit larger groups. A member of our Silver Fox Class of luxuriously appointed Semi-traditional narrowboats.
A 4+3 berth with a large permanent private double cabin located aft followed by a bathroom and the second private double cabin where a clever design means it can convert easily from a double bed to 2 fixed single beds. If used as a 4 berth both these cabins are en-suite. The galley, saloon and dining area are towards the front where another 3 people can sleep as it easily converts at night into a third double berth and additional single bed. This traditional layout allows the main sleeping cabins to be out of the way from the social areas in the saloon and outside bow deck as well as offering the best tranquil views through the windows and front doors.
Luxuriously appointed and beautifully crafted with an uplifting warm interior in Maple and Cherry woods that contrast with a sumptuous Walnut floor throughout. Facilities include 2 toilets, 2 showers, a comprehensively equipped galley with a full-size cooker and microwave, a 240v electrical system as well as central heating that provides great comfort from March to November.
At 64ft(19.5m) long she has a bow deck with space to socialise and a Semi-traditional stern that has an elevated steering position for greater visibility and improved weather protection in the steering cockpit. Popular with dog owners, the lockable doors provide the bonus of an ideal pen for dogs. Though there isn’t a guard rail to protect the steerer around the back deck, the semi-traditional stern has seating for 2 to 3 people on the storage benches when cruising.

The Stern Deck
This is a “semi-traditional” style deck which as well as being the place where the boat is driven can also be a sociable area for 3-4 people to sit even when cruising. The overall higher standing platform makes viewing easier when at the helm. Note this style does not have a safety rail behind the tiller.
The Double Bedroom
A permanent double bed with a comfortable good quality mattress which is 4ft (122cm) wide and 6’3 (1.91m) long. The bedroom has internal cabin doors ensuring privacy, there is also wardrobe hanging space, drawers, vanity unit and more storage below and above the bed.
The Aft Shower room and Toilet
The toilet is a macerating flush type, the waste is held remotely in a large tank with capacity usually suitable for 1 week. The shower dimensions are 2’3” (69cm) x 2ft (61cm) with headroom of 6’3” (1.91m). There is also a washbasin with a large vanity unit and storage above.
The Double or Twin Singles Bedroom
This bedroom can be arranged in two ways. As a 4ft (122cm) wide double bed or as two single beds that are 2’3” (69cm) wide. All beds are 6’3” long with quality mattresses. The bedroom has cabin doors to provide privacy and there is hanging wardrobe storage, drawers a vanity unit and further storage above and below the beds.
The Fwd Shower room and Toilet
The toilet is a macerating flush type, the waste is held remotely in a large tank with capacity usually suitable for 1 week. The shower dimensions are 2’3” (69cm) x 2ft (61cm) with headroom of 6’3” (1.91m). There is also a washbasin with a large vanity unit and storage above.
The Galley
There is a domestic sized gas cooker with a two-shelf oven with a separate grill. There is also a gas hob with four rings and a domestic sized electric refrigerator with small freezing compartment fitted under the worktop. The galley is equipped to suit the maximum capacity of the boat.
The Saloon
The ‘L’ shaped dinette will seat 3-4 adults around the table which is stowed beneath the gunwale when not in use. The dinette will also easily convert to a double berth approx. 4ft (1.22m) wide x 6’3” (1.91m) long. There are two single seats separated by a table, the tables will drop down overnight to make a single berth approx. 2’ (61cm) wide x 6’3” (1.91m) long. Extra seating is provided by two folding chairs.
The Entertainment and Storage
A 15” flat screen TV/DVD and DAB Radio/Bluetooth stereo are fitted. There is a hanging rail, drawers and storage located in a half height cupboard in this area.
The Bow Deck
Outside sociable area where on board folding chairs can be positioned to allow full enjoyment of the tranquillity of your surroundings.

We had a lovely week aboard Flying Fox. Patrick walked us through the entire boat and as complete beginners we felt very supported by his knowledge and guidance. The boat was very well laid out and extremely well looked after and perfect for our family of 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a small baby. We can highly recommend Foxhangers, from booking to handing back the boat it was a stress free & pleasurable experience. We would definitely go back.

In all our various adventures on different canals with various hire companies. We can all say that the Flying Fox was the best boat we have hirer. She had an excellent lay out, wonderfully equipped. The bathrooms/ toilets were exceptionally compared to other boats we have hired. The hand over brief by Patrick was informative and covered everything we needed to safely venture out on the waterways. The administration of the booking was also exceptionally easy . Very pleased with everything from start to finish, tuition from Patrick was excellent putting us all at ease, facilities onboard the boat was excellent, and as it was our first adventure trip doing the Kennet and Avon canals, going towards Bristol was also a good move, which was suggested by foxhangers booking team, as there were only around 10 locks to navigate up until Bath where we turned around and made our way back to Devises, also many place to eat, drink and visit on the way out and back. Would I do it again, Yes, I certainly will.

We enjoyed our holiday on one of your narrow boats. This was our first experience of narrow boats and we found the initial explanation by one of your staff very helpful. We thought the boat was well equipped and comfortable. The cost of hiring the boat was very reasonable and given there is no need to spend any more money during the holiday it was a cheap holiday. Being able to stay at locations in the middle of the countryside overnight is something one could not do any other way. It was also nice being able to stop for a meal at the excellent pubs along the canal and not have to worry about having to drive home because the boat can be moored outside the pub!!

Fantastic week on the Flying Fox We had a party of 6 making up 3 generations on board. We love a canal holiday, the water really forces you to slow down and take your time, getting into a fantastic relaxing mindset. Everything you could want or need was on board, really comfortable and enjoyable week. Especially loved having the fold away table and chairs, meaning you could eat on board or take it out for a picnic on the tow path when the weather was kind. The K and A was beautiful, and we really enjoyed the challenge of the Caen hill 29 The team at Foxhangers were friendly and knowledgeable. All in all this made for a truly relaxing holiday. Where to start! We had an absolutely amazing week on the Flying Fox from 30th June 2012, and I wish we were back there. Our crew consisted of myself, my husband (skipper) and our two Weimeraner dogs who helped me navigate! The boat herself was very impressive in terms of interior decor and very importantly cleanliness. It was impeccable and I was delighted we chose Foxhangers. Upon arrival, the handover from Dave on pick up was absolutely spot on, and as a complete novice myself, I was so thankful that he patiently showed me the mechanisms of the locks as we got underway! Despite probably the worst “summer” in British history we had an absolute ball ! The boat was so well “kitted out” we wanted for nothing. The complimentary bottle of vino chilling in the fridge and the box of chocolates was the icing on the cake and a very nice touch. Although my husband has done a boating holiday in the past, it was my first time. Well done Foxhangers - we will be back ! I would without hesitation highly recommend Foxhangers to anyone looking to embark on a canal break/holiday.

What do you do with two adults, four teenagers and a dog? Take them on a canal boat! This is the most successful holiday we’ve ever had as a family. Not only is it relaxing, but there is also plenty to do, and interesting places to visit. We also saw lots of beautiful countryside and wildlife and had many adventures (we found the dog eventually). There is always someone on the bank to help or offer advice (!), and a guaranteed audience every time you run aground. Thanks for the great boat and excellent service. Highly recommended.

“A great holiday on the Flying Fox in September 2008. We wanted to introduce our Danish friends to a canal boat holiday and we were not disappointed. Despite some wet and cloudy days, we had a great holiday. There was no shortage of information and the service by the Foxhanger staff was friendly and efficient. When we had problems with the gas, help came almost immediately - we felt we were in good hands and enjoyed a beer together. The boat had lots of storage space and was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We were very impressed with the inventory and loved the warm duvets - something Danish people would hate to be without! We recommended your company on several occasions when talking to other holiday makers who thought the boat looked so attractive. The only minus was the fact that we couldn't go on the Avon River because of the strong currents and heavy rainfall, but even Foxhangers have no control over the weather gods! We hope that more people from abroad will sample the delights of a canal holiday through the lovely English countryside.”
