Arctic Fox

4 - 7 Berth Narrowboat, Silver Fox Class

Arctic Fox is medium sized boat ideal for two couples, or larger groups. A member of our Silver Fox Class of luxuriously appointed Semi-traditional narrowboats.

A 4+3 berth with 2 private permanent fixed double sleeping cabins each with en-suite bathrooms when used as 4 berths. The galley, saloon and dining area are towards the front where another 3 people can sleep as it easily converts at night into a third double berth and additional single bed. This traditional layout allows the main sleeping cabins to be out of the way from the social areas in the saloon and outside bow deck as well as offering the best tranquil views through the windows and front doors.

Luxuriously appointed and beautifully crafted with an uplifting warm interior in Maple and Cherry woods that contrast with a sumptuous Walnut floor throughout. Facilities include 2 toilets, 2 showers, a comprehensively equipped galley with a full-size cooker and microwave, a 240v electrical system as well as central heating that provides great comfort from March to November.

At 62ft(18.9m) long she has a bow deck with space to socialise and a Semi-traditional stern that has an elevated steering position for greater visibility and improved weather protection in the steering cockpit.  Popular with dog owners, the lockable doors provide the bonus of an ideal pen for dogs.  Though there isn’t a guard rail to protect the steerer around the back deck, the semi-traditional stern has seating for 2 to 3 people on the storage benches when cruising.

Standard breaks for this narrowboat:

  • Weekly & fortnight breaks (2pm Saturday afternoons to 9am Saturday morning)

We thought the boat was completely as expected and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and 98% of everything worked. The only hiccup we had was the toilet at the back of the boat which was seemingly not pumped out. However, as you know we did get excellent help from Sydney Wharf in Bath. We ate at the Barge Inn at Seend and the food was excellent, thanks for three recommendation. We also tried the Three Magpies at Sells Green and that was also very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Arctic Fox and we thought the boat was well maintained. Unlike some other people we met during the week who had a whole load of problems with leaking boats, engine problems and the like. We would certainly recommend Foxhangers to our wide circle of friends and many in Sweden are interested in trying the canal experience.

Hello everyone at Foxhangers, We have just returned from a fabulous holiday with you on the Kennet and Avon Canal. We were very impressed with the boat which had everything we needed. Both inside and outside spaces were well designed. The kitchen was very well kitted out and the beds were comfy. We will be booking another Foxhangers narrow boat holiday soon and will recommend you to friends and family. Thank you very much, All good wishes,

Captain Cpts Deb and John Osborne, Arctic Fox June 2024

Superb service from initial booking through to end of holiday. Excellent website with great tutorials and an information pack to match. Handover demonstration by Peter of Lock, bridge and boat usage was faultless with everything we needed to know comprehensively explained. Article Fox was a lovely boat with great handling and comfortable living areas. We’re already decided upon booking again in the future and going the opposite direction up the canal. Thankyou for such a good experience.

Captain Cpt Rick Suter, Arctic Fox April 2024

We had a very pleasurable week on the Artic Fox. The handover was excellent & very comprehensive as it was the first time on a narrow boat for all of us . From making sure we knew how to put water on the boat to giving us a full guide on how to operate a lock. Totally putting us at ease. The layout on the boat was perfect for two couples allowing us all the space we needed and a giving us a perfect vantage point of the wonderful scenery with a glass of wine in hand! The items provided on the boat were enough to allow us to cook a meal (although an extra oven shelf wouldn't go amiss) and were all decent quality. We did have a maintenance issue that was quickly solved with the engineer meeting us on our route so not to upset our plans. The map on the boat was detailed enough for us to plan where we would get water and the overnight stops. This along with the printout from Foxhangers office made it all very easy to work out where we were and the timings from one point to another. This was our first trip, and it certainly will not be our last. I would thoroughly recommend anyone novice or otherwise using Foxhangers to book their break.

Captain Cpt Clare Glover, Arctic Fox September 2023

Arctic Fox: lovely boat, great to drive, very comfortable and such nice people at Foxhangers. This was our 4th (or 5th??) boat from Foxhangers, we'll be back for another soon.

Captain Cpt Tim Kelly, Arctic Fox April 2023

We together with two of our friends hired Artic Fox last week. We had a lovely relaxing time. The boat was really comfortable for the 4 of us. Nice and clean. The staff at Foxhangers were very helpful and friendly both on arrival and departure.

Captain Cpt Julie Hodgkinson, Arctic Fox September 2022

Hi Sharon, The holiday was a complete surprise for my parents who have never done anything like this and without me they never would. We all had a brilliant time. The Foxhangers team were so patient explaining the boat Health and safety. Controls etc. None of us had any experience on canals with locks and swing bridges but we soon got the hang of it. Such a brilliant holiday. I would recommend anyone to give it a go. Beautiful Great British countryside and a relaxing pace of life. Will definitely be doing this again soon. Thank you again to all the Foxhangers team. Regards. Paul, Richard and Sandra Grove

Captain Cpt Paul Grove, Arctic Fox June 2021

Captain Cpt Dr Debbie Allen, Arctic Fox April 2022

Thanks for a wonderful week on the Kennet and Avon. We really enjoyed our time in the Arctic Fox cruising the canal. The boat was great for 3 adults and Louis the cocker spaniel! We saw many kingfishers and herons and just loved the slow pace of life. Everyone at Foxhangers were really friendly and helpful. Thanks again.

Captain Cpt Tom Rennie, Arctic Fox October 2021

Hi all at Foxhangers, We had a great trip recently with yourselves and we would be happy for the following testimonial to be used. "As complete novices to a canal holiday we were very impressed with the service provided by all at Foxhangers, from initial inquiry through to us returning our hired narrowboat". Nicky helped with all our questions and always had the required information - fantastic customer service. We met some lovely people along the way, fellow hirers and people living on the canal and they were all very helpful, friendly and willing to assist when in doubt... and give a hand when needing a push away from the bank etc! Great friendly efficient staff, with a lovely range of semi traditional narrowboats available. We hired the 'Flying Fox' from the Silver Class for a week and it was perfect for a family of 4 wanting a little bit of extra room/ space (sleeps 7). A special thank you also to the helpful chaps on the wharf on our return who helped to take baggage and belongings from one side to the other for loading into the car. Customer service at its best! We would recommend Foxhangers to anyone wanting a canal holiday, beginners or experienced! " I have also attached some photos and are more than happy got you to use them for any occasion. Many thanks from all the family.

Captain Cpt Amy Rich, Arctic Fox April 2021

This was our second visit to Foxhangers and it was even better than the first. No mean feat. Booking on their website was easy. A comprehensive confirmation letter followed shortly after with all the information one could possibly require. A phone call a couple of days before our start date confirming the bedding requirements was a nice touch. Check in at reception was swift and efficient.Boat handover was rapid and we were soon on our way. Arctic Fox was well equipped, we lacked nothing! Everything worked and the fat onboard information folder, including a detailed list of all the canal-side hostelries, was excellent. Foxhangers have gone the extra mile with this and it was most welcome! They obviously really want you to have a good holiday, and we did. We were nearly "de-railed" by the canal being closed on our last day due to the discovery of a WW2 grenade on the towpath during renovations but hardly had we discussed the options with the police at the scene than Foxhangers rang to request our location and offered to collect us and our belongings if we couldn't get back to the boatyard. That's service for you. Fortunately, we made it back, with the boat, unscathed. Thanks, Foxhangers, we'll be back.

Captain Nick and Gill Fuller, Arctic Fox

Thank you very much for a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday. We had amazing weather and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the Caen Flight. Arctic Fox was very well equipped and comfortable and the staff at the boatyard were very helpful. Roo the dog also enjoyed it and soon learned not to fall in!

Captain Sarah Prince, Arctic Fox

We are two couples who hired Arctic Fox for the week. We hire twice a year so have seen lots of different boats over the last few years. This boat seemed really well thought out lots of storage, hooks and coat cupboards. Mirrors in sensible places with lights above. Everything we needed in the kitchen and more, extra bin bags, washing up liquid, dishcloths the things you always intend on packing but don't and surprise gifts were a lovely touch, even the beds were comfy. The Foxhangers team were friendly and helpful and we would highly recommend them for a canal boat holiday.

Captain Mrs Roberts , Arctic Fox

Hi fox hangers had a great time on the arctic fox, lovely to have chocs and wine for the start of our trip. The boat was clean and well equipped.

Captain Mrs Jane Pender, Arctic Fox

Arctic Fox 20-27 May I just wanted to say thank you so very much to all the team at Foxhangers. Your customer service from all team members was absolutely second to none throughout our dealings with you. And to top it all off we had an absolutely super time on holiday on the Arctic Fox last week. Your bookings team could not have been more accommodating when I explained our complex plans for swapping crew half way through our weeks hire (so we could share the boat with friends for part of the week and family for the other part). You even thought of providing extra bedding and towels for that which hadn't initially crossed my mind! You were also happy with us bringing the dogs, and the lady on reception made a big fuss of my crazy hound Rocky when we arrived. My friend and I were also made very welcome since we'd arrived early and waited in reception for an hour for the rest of our group to arrive. I was 8 months pregnant and nothing was too much trouble - the staff loaded our belongings into their van to ferry down to the dock so the two of us ladies didn't have to struggle with all the heavy belongings. They then parked the van right next to our boat so we had minimal carrying distance to get stuff on board. They really couldn't have done more to help us. And then the man waiting to give our induction was extremely patient waiting for "the captain" of our group to arrive so he could brief him rather than me, and he made us feel like we weren't a burden or hassle in any way for keeping him waiting, though I'm sure it was at least a mild inconvenience... Finally, we brought the boat back to the marina the night before the morning we were due to return it, planning to sleep there the last night, but the crew at the Marina were quite happy for us to hand the boat back that night when we enquired, which made our transport arrangements a bit easier. They were dealing with other departures at the time, but did end up having to hang on a little bit as we got our final belongings off the boat and had a last tidy up. Again, they were patient in the extreme and gave no outward sign of annoyance at the inconvenience we were surely causing! Such a lovely team of people you have working for you, and we won’t hesitate to book with foxhangers again. I cannot rate you highly enough. Thank you for giving us an absolutely super holiday.

Captain Mrs Jaz Scott , Arctic Fox

From my original telephone conversation with the lovely Daryl, David’s excellent briefing, our wonderful boat Arctic Fox and the amazing scenery on The Kennett and Avon canal every thing was just perfect. It was a very enjoyable week. Thank you.

Captain Mr P Ellsley , Arctic Fox

We had a lovely week and everything we needed on our boat. Thank you for chocolates and wine. The staff were all very helpful. We really enjoyed visiting Bath and Bradford on Avon.

Captain Mrs J Cottingham , Arctic Fox

All four of us really enjoyed our week on Arctic Fox and thank you for the complimentary wine and chocolates, they didn't last long! We found the initial instructions very good, as we were "first timers". The boat was very well equipped and clean. The staff were very polite and helpful. Thank you.

Captain Mr Palmer, Arctic Fox

This was our first canal boat holiday. After an hour of excellent tuition on the working of the boat and lock operation we were ready to go. We set off up the Caen hill flight with no problems and spent a wonderful week cruising to Little Bedwyn and back. The boat was warm and comfortable with everything we needed on board. We found some lovely quiet spots to moor up for the night and some great canal side pubs with excellent food. Hope to return to go to Bath next time. Thanks to all at Foxhangers.

Captain Mr Redman, Arctic Fox

We had a wonderful break on Arctic Fox during the Autumn half term.  Just enough time to cruise down the very beautiful Kennet and Avon (our new favourite canal!) exploring the swing bridges and aqueducts along the way and arriving for an overnight in Bath and explored the city during the day (moorings right by the station). The boat was extremely comfortable for two adults, a teenager, two children and a puppy.  All the systems were simple and worked like a dream and the boat is very well equipped with everything we needed.  The canal was quiet and moorings were plentiful.  The scenery is amazing and the combination of woodlands and open countryside as well as time in a fascinating city made this the best canal break we have enjoyed.  Very relaxing, with enough exercise to ward off the Bath buns!  Next time we will be attempting the Caen Hill flight!

Captain Mr Roos , Arctic Fox

We had a great holiday aboard the Arctic Fox. We were amazed at how well equipped the galley was, no need to bring anything from home. We had excellent service from the office staff and a very detailed and professional induction from Mike. Thank you for a fantastic holiday aboard the Arctic Fox Your staff made everything easy from my initial phone call to book to handing the boat back at the end of the week. We will recommend your company to friends and will return ourselves.

Thank you so much. We had a wonderful holiday. The boat was everything and more we had hoped it to be. It’s the 2nd time we have used Foxhangers, and we would definitely recommend you to our friends and family.

Captain Loraine Barnatt, Arctic Fox

We took Arctic Fox from Foxhangers wharf on the 10th August. Richard gave me a good induction to the systems and operation of the boat, he then instructed our 2 young kids (7 & 8) about how to behave around the boat, the canal banks and the locks. We all went through 1 lock together and then Tania the kids and I were on our own. We headed East to the amazing Caen Hill Flight. The engineering on the canals always enthrals me and the easy way of life (at 3mph) makes a canal holiday the "fastest way to wind down" All the Bargies that we met were friendly and helpful, with the time to stop and talk. Previously we had rented boats from other operators, we learned the hard way that we wanted a boat that had been inspected and rated by "Visit England" where the owner/operators had a standard to maintain and we as renters would have some recourse if the standards were low. What attracted us to Foxhangers was the high star ratings of the boats which they operate. Arctic Fox was lovely and clean and very well appointed throughout, the kitchen appliances and utensils were well placed and appropriate for our needs. The number of lights and 240volt sockets are great, there is always one where you need it to be. We travelled all the way to Reading and then turned the boat around and went back to Foxhangers. On day 14 we kept the boat to the last possible moment before we took it back to the wharf, we were very sad to hand it back. We had a great time and have no hesitation to recommend the Arctic Fox and the Foxhangers team if you are considering a canal holiday. We will most certainly be back.

Captain Mark, Tania, Dean and Summer, Arctic Fox

We had a lovely relaxed time on our Foxhangers Canal Boat, Arctic Fox from 18th May 2013.  We were novices to Canal Boating, we had everything explained fully to us, so we felt very comfortable taking the boat out.  The boat was very clean and there was everything we needed on board for our holiday.  We would definitely use this company again and would have no hesitation in recommending Foxhangers to our family and friends.

Captain Lorraine Birt , Arctic Fox

We two couples from Germany thoroughly enjoyed the (freezing) week before Easter on this well-heated, well-equipped and perfectly serviced boat. Despite the size it was easy to manoeuvre and it was so much fun and very relaxing to cruise down to Bath and back at a leisurely speed with many nice stops along the way, including the finest canalside pubs you could wish for. The company and the staff at Foxhangers deserve an extra thank you for their friendliness and efficiency. Everybody was eager to help make our holiday a success. We keep boasting to our friends of this wonderful experience and will certainly recommend Foxhangers any time.

Captain Axel Fey and Peter Muegge, Arctic Fox

A well presented and well equipped boat. Very relaxing trip with 2 nights in Bath and lovely stops in between.

Captain Ian Cummins, Arctic Fox

Just a quick note to say thank you for supplying an excellent boat (certainly the best we have been on) and for the overall service provided during our stay. The staff were friendly and efficient and made the handover and return incredibly simple. The wine and chocolates were an unexpected treat. We would without any reservation recommend your holidays. Richard Alton. The boats are well appointed and in good condition. We found all the staff helpful, flexible and friendly. I would highly recommend Foxhangers.

Captain David Lomas, Arctic Fox

Foxhangers appear to have everything about right - first class holiday - well done!
