The following are some of the things which we at Foxhangers are often asked.
There are also some testimonials of past customers to look at.
If you have any questions that are not answered in this section, please contact us.
| Do I need any previous boating
experience? No. It is not necessary to have any previous boating experience to hire a self-drive boat. We will provide you with a very comprehensive boaters hand book which you can read prior to your holiday, plus we provide training on arrival at our base. This will include how to steer your boat, daily boat checks, operating locks and safety instructions. Don't be afraid to ask questions to ensure that you are completely confident and can get the most enjoyment from being captain of your own vessel. top What is a boating holiday like? Boating holidays appeal to a wide variety of interests. You can get away from it all on the tranquil backwaters of the rural canals with their quaint waterside pubs, or explore the normally hidden channels through major towns and cities with a wealth of architectural and industrial history only accessible by water. Your boating holiday offers many places of interest to stop along the way for the whole family. There is also plenty to do on the water itself, including piloting your own boat, operating locks, exploring backwaters, and maybe taking in a little fishing or soaking up the sun! The slow pace of the waterways is one of the main attractions to many and because you travel only as far as you wish each day, your holiday can be as relaxing or as energetic as you choose. top Do I need a licence? No "driving" licence is required for a hire boat on the inland waterways. Your boat will however be licensed to use the Kennet & Avon canal including the rivers Avon & Kennet at each end. Should you wish to enter the Bristol Floating Harbour you will be required to make a small payment to the harbour master. top How far can we travel in a day? On most of the inland waterways the maximum speed is around 4mph (a brisk walking pace) however the average speed is closer to 3mph. In calculating how far you can to travel in a day, you should work on the basis of "lock miles" . To do this count each lock as one mile and add the distance in actual miles to make "lock miles". Divide this by 3(mph) to give the total time in hours to cover the required distance including locks. top What should we bring? Not too much! Storage space is quite limited on a narrowboat, although our boats have more than most! We provide all bed linen but remember to bring your own towels. Be prepared for all weather conditions, warm clothes can be necessary even in summer. We do provide 2 sets of waterproofs on all our boats. Do not wear shoes that might slip on a wet deck, and bring wellies outside of the summer months. 12v phone mobile phone charger and 12v chargers for any laptops or cameras that plug into a cigar lighter. There are plenty of excellent canalside pubs and restaurants along the K&A, but you will need to bring or purchase along the way provisions for the boat. Games, books, DVD's, cameras, fishing rods etc are a good idea as there will always be time at the end of a days cruising for some quiet relaxation. top What shouldn't we bring? Canoes, large suitcases (these can be left in your car), live fishing bait, 240v appliances such as hairdryers (the boats have 240v inverters suitable for charging mobile phones, cameras and laptops). top How do I find a suitable holiday? 1) If you have chosen the boat you wish to hire but are quite flexible with dates you can go then view the price list in conjunction with the on line availability calendars, to view the price go to the price list and then view the availability calendars. 2) If you know the specific dates you can go and want to see what boats are available then use our prices search function. 3) Once you have selected a boat and date go back to the boats page and check that the boat provides the correct sleeping options for your party. You can also look at each boat in detail with floor plans, photos & virtual tours. 4) When you have made your final choice you can make a 48hr reservation by completing the 'Contact Us' form and once we have emailed a reply confirming the temporary reservation you have 48hrs to send us completed booking form and appropriate payment. top What happens when I reserve a boat? When you click the 'Contact Us' button, a form appears for you to complete with your details. Complete the form with as much information as possible, you can ask any questions you may have in the comments box. On receipt of your form we will verify that the requested dates and boat are still available and then contact you (normally within the same or following day) by email or phone to confirm your 48 hr reservation Please note that your booking is not complete until you have submitted a booking form, paid an appropriate payment and received written confirmation from us. top What is included in the holiday price? Your holiday hire cost will include the self-drive hire of your chosen boat for the rental period. The hire cost includes sufficient fuel to run the engine for an average of 5 hours per day plus all heating. If you run the engine for longer than 5 hours a day then a small fuel surcharge will be levied of approximately £2.00 per hour for every extra hour, the price will be confirmed on your arrival as it depends on the fluctuations in the market price for diesel. Please don't be put off by this charge as it is due to the recent deregulation of red diesel by the EU, note other hire boat companies are charging for all of the diesel consumed including diesel used for the heating. All bedding, car parking, colour TV, canal map, life jackets and VAT at 20% is included in the hire price. A damage deposit of £200.00 is payable with your final payment. This will be refunded to you after your holiday subject to the boat being returned at the correct time in the condition you took it. top Can I take dogs? No more than 2 well behaved dogs are welcome on our boats. Please include details on the holiday booking form. A charge of £20.00 per dog per week will be applicable. top What if I have to cancel the booking? You are liable for the monies you have already paid should you have to cancel. The balance is required at least 8 weeks prior to your booking and should you cancel after you have paid the balance you are not entitled to a refund. In the event we are unable to re-let the boat we also reserve the right to claim from you any unpaid balance of the hire cost. We therefore strongly recommend you take out cancellation insurance at the time of booking, we will send details of an independent company although you are welcome to make your own arrangements. top Exactly what safety advice and training do you provide? We aim to provide all the information you will need in order to safely handle our boats. One of our experienced team members will show you through the boat, explain where everything is and how everything works, before demonstrating how to safely drive and moor the boat, operate swing bridges and locks. We have developed this handover training in compliance with the British Marine Federation’s Hire Boat Handover Scheme. top What is the Hireboat Handover Scheme? The ‘Hire Boat Handover’ is a nationally recognised scheme developed by the British Marine Federation and RYA. There will be two forms sent to you on confirmation of your booking. You will need to bring these completed forms along with you on the day of your holiday. Failure to do so will result in your not being able to board your boat. These measures are in the best interest of your safety and allow us to optimise our quality of service to you. They simply allows us to get a better idea of your level of knowledge and to ensure that you understand all aspects of canal boating and your vessel before you depart. This is vital to your group’s safety and to minimise the risk of damaging the boat. top Are Lifejackets provided? We will always provide life jackets for all children and non-swimmers in your group. These members should wear their lifejackets whenever they’re on deck. We are happy to provide life jackets for all persons aboard and would encourage everyone to wear a jacket, especially whilst on the River Avon. top What is provided on-board? All of our boats have cooking and cleaning equipment, as well as plates, glasses, cutlery etc. We provide bed linen and pillows, and are able to provide towels if requested (a hire fee is applicable for towels). Click here to go to the boats page. Full inventories for each boat can be accessed by clicking on the boat that you would like to look at. top How far can we get in a week? In a few days? This really depends on how much boating you want to do. Click here to go to the Kennet and Avon canal page where you can plot your route with approximate travel times provided. As a rough guide, If you are heading west, Bath is approximately 9 hours boating away, and heading east, it takes about 4 ½ hours to negotiate the Caen Hill locks to Devizes. top Is there any work being carried out on the canal? We suggest that you follow this link for up-to-date information: www.waterscape.com/canals-and-rivers/kennet-and-avon-canal/boating/stoppages top
Here are some of the comments received from past customers: Foxtail April 2012 We had Foxtail, anyway 5berth and a really tidy boat that handled really well. Very well equipped, superb tele and radio reception and comfortable beds and bedding. Generally very well laid out making the best use of space and obviously not skimping on any of the gear. The training was very professional and relaxed which inspired confidence. We had a great time. Thank you Foxhangers! Pete Anderson Foxhunter April 2012 We found the Foxhangers staff very friendly and helpful. In fact another reason for choosing Foxhangers was the helpful advice we received on the phone before we even booked our holiday. Foxhunter was a lovely boat and was very well equipped. It was really useful to have a list of equipment sent to us in advance, so that we knew what to take with us. We liked the layout of the boat; it was great to be able to keep the table up in the seating area and still be able to get past easily. The weather was quite cold - there was a sharp frost a couple of nights - but the boat was nice and warm. The small bath was a real advantage for the younger children. We liked the fact that the fuel was included in the original cost of the holiday. We would like to come back in the future and go west towards Bath. C and I families Foxglacier April 2012 Thank you for your letter of 7th April and the refund of our Damage deposit. This was our first holiday with your Company and it was a great success. Fox Glacier was clean and very well equipped and we were impressed with the handover by one of your colleagues at the beginning of our trip. Thank you all for making it a memorable week on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Michael and Pam Parrish, Tony and Penny Elphick, Susan Lewis Flying Fox 24 - 31 March 2012 The boat didn't feel like a hire boat at all, unlike some we have experienced in the past. It has to be the best boat we have hired to date and I am sure we will return to you in the near future. Thank you all for a very professional and pleasant experience. We sincerely hope to see you again soon. Robert and Lynne Foxglacier 23/03/12 We had an excellent weekend and were spoilt with the weather - all you pre trip organisation and briefings were first rate - Catherine was great - really helpful and all our party were impressed - along with the quality of the boats - looking forward to the next time ! Dave & Alison Foxtrot 21/10/12 Weekend Break Having hired canal boats through a variety of companies of the years I can honestly say Foxhangers have been the best I encountered so far. Great service, friendly staff, a genuine and thoughtful induction, boat in good order and excellent attention to detail with regard to what was provided on board. Sometimes its the little things that make a big difference, and the galley was immaculately equipped (even a cafetiere), tea towels, cleaning products meaning less for us to fetch and carry. The seating and beds were comfortable and clean, free from that musty damp smell you can find on some boats, duvets and covers clean warm nicely laundered. Deposit returned swiftly and efficiently. I have no hesitation in recommending Foxhangers and I will certainly use them again. David Gronback Foxtrot ~ October 2011 This was our first introduction to narrowboating on the K&A and leaving it until almost November we knew that the weather could be unreliable. However, Foxtrot was beautifully maintained and warm and cosy in the evenings. The collection of the boat and briefing by the team at Foxhangers was clear, comprehensive but also cheerful. We had a great time and we will definitely be coming again...perhaps even go east next time! Stephen Dunhill Cunning Fox ~ October 2011 Just to say how much we enjoyed our first ever canal boat hire on the Cunning Fox this October 2011, it was brilliant. All 4 of us will do it again sometime. Everything was organised by Foxhangers to perfection. Keep up the good work. Joost and Maureen Dobbelaar. Hans and Andrea Simons.(all the way from Holland). Fox Talbot ~ October 2011 Just a quick note to say thank you for the great short break holiday we had with you recently, the narrow boat FOXTALBOT fitted our needs perfectly ( Two mature couples) the boat was immaculately presented, warm and comfortable beds, two toilet showers rooms, we had comprehensive instructions on the workings of the boat from Neil, and the same for working the locks. Also the help we had dealing with a problem with our car. To anyone thinking of hiring a narrow boat on the Kennet & Avon canal head for Foxhangers and do it right! Many thanks again. Glyn , Kim, Steve and Belinda. Fennec Fox 27th August to 3rd September 2011 The boat was spotlessly clean and fantastically well fitted-out. We had a very thorough briefing on arrival and the staff were friendly and informative. An incredibly enjoyable week aboard a fantastic boat in some of the most stunning countryside that the UK has to offer. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to friends and family. Christopher Allen, Amersham, Buckinghamshire CUNNING FOX August 20/27 2011 Lovely Craft, very clean with a well equipped kitchen to meet all our needs. With another Grandchild joining the party, and needing their own bedroom, we had to sleep in the Salon. We coped with that easily and it meant we had an extra cuppa in the mornings. At 69’ long, we found our ‘walkie-talkies’ very useful. The whole week was very relaxing and we are each looking forward to doing it all again. Mention must be made of ALL the Staff, from Front Office to Quayside. Everyone was extremely helpful and patient with us when giving full instruction. Just the right start to a brilliant week. Anne & Alan Jackson Horsham, West Sussex. Foxtrot - August 2011 We had a wonderful holiday on Foxtrot. The boat was lovely and clean and had everything we wanted. As we had never been on a narrowboat holiday before we had a full induction, which was very thorough and informative - the staff were very helpful. We were looking for a holiday that would suit 3 generations including children aged 14,12 and 9 - a narrowboat holiday certainly fulfilled this. The children loved it, helping with the locks and fishing in the evening. A very enjoyable holiday was had by all. Jennifer Harvey Foxhunter August 2011 Thank you very much for a wonderful week on the good ship foxhunter. The three generations of our family had a brilliant week aboard especially my twin eight year old girls who thoroughly enjoyed working the locks on our way to Bath. The highlight of the week for me was negotiating the Bath locks especially the Deep lock and turning the boat around up next to Bath weir under full gaze of sightseers. Although we ran aground our training from Chris was second to none and if we still didn't know what to do the local "canallers" would step right in to give us a gentle prod in the right direction. Bombing along at 2mph has never been so much fun. Again many thanks and we certainly look forward to seeing you again next year - roll on the Caen hill locks. The Bartlett and Tustain family. Foxcub August 2011 The 'relaxing pub crawl' we had envisaged turned out to be more of a 'challenging adventure' for 3 ladies already in possession of their bus passes who had never done this before. Nevertheless, we had a great time and were extremely well looked after not only by members of Foxhangers staff but also numerous Fairy Godfathers along the way. Would definitely do it again, though possibly with a man on board! Foxterrier June 2011 We had a brilliant time on Foxterrier. As you know we had planned to be out on our shard ownership boat but at short notice we were unable to do so and we were pleased to find a boat at short notice and a good price. The experience was perfect from the moment we arrived at your base to the time we sadly drove away for home. Fox terrier was so well laid out and well equipped for our party of 5 and well located for a good trip including up and down Caen Hill ! Maybe we will be able to book again in the near future. Thank you again Judy Hazelgrove Foxglove June 2011 A note of thanks for the refund of the damage waiver deposit. Our first time on a canalboat and we found the whole experience very good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the narrowboat well presented with everything we needed. We had a lovely weeks holiday and will be coming back. Many thanks. Richard & Carol Carey. Flying Fox May 2011 Just a quick note to thank you very much my return of deposit with reference to our week on the ‘Flying Fox’ from21st – 28th May. Great Boat, great staff, everyone was so helpful, would definitely recommend and hopefully we will return. Weather could have been better but did not stop us from having a relaxing break. Once again, many thanks and kind regards, Len Hazell and Crew. Foxhunter May 2011 My friends and I hired Foxhunter in May 2011, the second year we've been with foxhangers. The boat is well laid out and is perfect for a weeks holiday, the staff are friendly and we had a great time, again. Thank you. Chris Povey Environment Officer, Lower Avon Foxtail 3rd May 2011 Dear Sirs. Thanks for Damage Deposit cheque. Excellent few days which we all enjoyed. We thought the Foxhanger staff were all very friendly, professional and competent and the boat in first class order. We would certainly do it again and by the way, would we get a discount for a return visit? Thanks again. John Wilson Foxtail 22nd April 2011 Just a quick note to say how much we all really enjoyed our Easter weekend on Foxtail! The boat was really well kitted out and very spacious for 4 and had everything we needed for a great trip. I think the glorious weather helped, but we had a fantastic time and would certainly recommend you to anybody who asked - I've already sent your web-link to a friend who also "has always wanted to try a narrowboat and never quite got round to it". Many thanks once again. Emma Beckett and others Foxterrier 22nd April 2011 'On behalf of the group I wanted to thank you guys for a accommodating us on what was a superb Bank Holiday weekend, the Foxterrier was excellent and I would most certainly recommend it! Dr Sahir Kara Foxtalbot 25th -28th March 2011 My wife and I have now hired narrowboats every year in early spring and have become hooked on the joys of canal boating. This year in late March we hired a lovely boat, Foxtalbot, together with three friends and headed west. We made it to Avoncliffe and back and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves along this rural stretch of canal. As 'seasoned hirers' we are quite fussy about the boats and Foxtalbot didn't disappoint. It was very comfortable with two (quite essential with five of us aboard) shower rooms. We all had a wonderful time and I would recommend the company, the boat and the lovely stretch of canal. Steve Woods Foxglacier 25th - 28th March 2011 Just to say the Brooks & Voisey families & our dog Jake had a truly wonderful long weekend staying on the Fox Talbot, we were pleasantly surprised that this boat had everything onboard that we needed, kitchen although compact had a wealth of kitchen utensils and we wanted for nothing. The weather was great which helped a lot and the peace at this time of year ( March ) was fab and a welcome bonus. Definitely a trip to be remembered and repeated. Thanks to you and the helpful staff for making our trip safe and memorable. Tanya Miller “Just like to say we had an absolutely fabulous mid week break on your Foxglacier narrowboat. We have had a holiday before with you which is the reason why we returned to hire the larger Foxglacier. My sister and her husband accompanied us on this holiday - they had never been on a canal narrowboat holiday before. They loved it. My husband has been on several canal holidays before but this is my third time. We hope to hire one of your canalboats again.” Unknown “Thank you - everything was really great, the boat was clean and it was a lovely "welcome touch" having a bottle of wine and a lovely box of chocolates ready waiting for us. Best wishes. Jan and John WestheadHere Arctic Fox 31/07 Arctic Fox, 31st July to 7th August A well presented and well equipped boat. Very relaxing trip with 2 nights in Bath and lovely stops in between. Ian Cummins Fennec Fox 11 – 18 /09/10 Once again a superb holiday. From arrival to departure we had quality service and a quality boat for our holiday. The areas along the canal are beautiful and the locals including those that live on the boats are so friendly and helpful. We are already looking forward to our 2011 holiday with you. If only we could have stayed longer. Many thanks, Adrian Taylor Foxterrier 10 – 13 /09/10 This is the 2nd time I have hired a boat from Foxhangers and once again the quality of your service and boat was brilliant. I'm looking to hire again in April, on the website I can see availabilities but cant seem to get a price. Could you email a price list to me for april for Cunning Fox? once again many thanks for a fantastic weekend. see you again next year. M. J. Taylor Cunning Fox 31/07 – 07/08/10 Thank you for the email about our Damage Deposit refund. We all had a brilliant holiday on the Cunning Fox - my relatives from Rome thought the whole experience was wonderful!! Thanks again for a great holiday experience, Regards, Valerie Wiltshire Foxterrier 19th – 23rd July 2010 We were all complete novices to canal holidays and were a bit daunted by hiring one of the largest boats but the staff at Foxhangers were friendly and explained everything really well. Off we went on what turned into one of the best holidays I have ever had. With three generations of family on one boat there was something around every corner for everyone, picturesque countryside, wildlife, great pubs and plenty of interesting people to meet en route. The boat was well equipped and comfortable with plenty of room for all seven of us and a dog. I would definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone planning a canal holiday. Thanks, Jane Brennan Fennec Fox 17 – 20th July Thank you for your email re. refund notification of £200 damage deposit. We (my daughter and her family) had a fantastic time on Fennec Fox and I’ve now promised my son and his family that I will take them on it some time soon. When they have some dates I will contact you again and check availability of Fennec Fox. Thank you for an amazing trip up the Kennet and Avon canal – we all enjoyed it immensely and Fennec Fox was a joy to live on. Kind regards, Pat Oldham The Dianthus Group Foxglacier 25/06 – 16/07 We are home again and back into the usual routine. We want to thank everyone at Foxhangers for another great experience on the canals. Foxglacier handled like a dream - the best of any boat so far. Cheers Kathie Thompson Victoria Fox Talbot May 2010 We have just completed a two week vacation aboard the FoxTalbot. Together with my wife and two friends we had two wonderful weeks on the Kennet & Avon which was greatly helped by the great service provided by all the staff at Foxhangers and the superior quality of their boat. The staff answered all our questions in advance of our vacation, provided a thorough briefing before we left and were very attentive when our voyage was shortened due to a problem closing the Caen Hill Locks. The boat was extremely clean and had everything aboard it that you could possibly want. We certainly recommend Foxhangers and have already got friends interested in hiring from them. Thank You everyone. Ken Corbett Foxhunter 18 – 21 June Just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for an excellent experience on board Foxhunter. It was a shame that my aunt decided against joining us, but it may well have been the correct decision after all. Message just received from my 80 year old mother .............. Well, wasn't that a great weekend? Wonderful weather, wonderful food, wonderful organisation, and I wonder whose idea it was?! ............ and now we get this gift from our lovely children, what lucky people we are. Endless thanks and love must come your way. So I think she enjoyed it! With thanks Sue Foxglove 21 – 28 June I booked our holiday week through Foxhangers mainly due to their location to our home address and that they were at the foot of the Devizes fleet of locks. This was a surprise holiday to celebrate our 40th anniversary. My wife and I are in our 60's so I was a bit worried about the physical side of a canal holiday, but Foxhangers were able to reassure me that we would be fine, which is exactly how it turned out. Not only were we surprised ar how easy it was to handle the four berth boat by ourselves, at every lock people seemed to appear from nowhere and muck in with the gates and bridges etc. The boat itself was very comfortable and had more than enough space for the two of us, and from the excellent handover and introduction by the marina staff, handling the water ways safely was a lot easier than we thought, just take your time and do it right. Even though there is TV, DVD Freeview on board, apart from the evening "soap fix" we spent most of our time sitting out on the cruiser stern watching the canal life and wild life pass us by, the Kennet and Avon must be one of the most picturesque canals in the UK, simply beautiful. My wife was particularly impressed with the little things that the females seem to pick up on, in the special washing up liquid the salt and pepper and cutlery being just right in number and extremely clean. The surprise box of chocolates and bottle of wine went down a treat although I did try to claim them as my idea, until she read the card!!! Many thanks for a relaxing interesting and informative holiday, we now add canal boat cruising to our list of experience's. Graeme and Sue JOY Foxtrot October 2009 To all at Foxhangers, thank you very much for an enjoyable long weekend break. Apart from myself the 6 friends who accompanied me had never set foot on a narrowboat before and they were amazed at the high standard set by yourselves, so many thanks. I will not hesitate to recommend you and I shall most definitely be hiring from you again in the not to distant future. Many thanks again! Matt Taylor "FoxTalbot" October 2009 A young group of us with relatively no boating experienced hired the "FoxTalbot" for a short weekend in late October 2009. (Fri - Sun) We found the information prior to the trip and the website very helpful and the initial briefing was very informative. The boat was surprisingly roomy and comfortable for 3 doubles and was very well equipped and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing trip and we travelled as far as AvonCliff Aqueduct and back, stopping in Bradford-on-Avon too. We have found Foxhangers fulfilled our every need with a very relaxed attitude and will definitely be recommending them to friends! "Foxterrier" October 2009 We have just had a most enjoyable and relaxing week on Foxterrier. Very impressed with both the cleanliness and standard of equipment on the boat. The Foxhanger's staff were extremely helpful on arrival and at departure time. We went west to Bradford on Avon. The Kennet and Avon canal was tranquil and very beautiful. Importantly for us, there were lots of child friendly pubs en route. Gareth Huxtable "Foxterrier" October 2009 We had a mid-week break on "Foxterrier", 19 - 23 October 2009. Most of our previous boating experience has been from Calcutt in Warwickshire where the Royal Navy keep three narrowboats for off-service and retired RN personnel. They are 60 footers, understandably Spartan by comparison with "Foxterrier", but strangely, they don't handle as well. Although a bit longer, "Foxterrier" was very responsive to the helm and easy to manoeuvre, precisely and with confidence. First class boat, very well appointed, and to echo a previous testimonial, great to have all the galley kit you could possibly want. We tend to go for on-board catering, having arrived too many times at pubs that don't offer food on whichever day it is we arrive, have stopped serving 10 minutes previously, the kitchen is closed etc. Very much liked the canal, going Devizes to Bath and return, which compares well with the best parts of the Warwickshire Ring, the Stratford and Oxford Canals, Grand Union South, Leicester section, and Ashby Canal. Thanks also for recommending the "Cross Guns" at Avoncliff. I have just looked at their web site. Its all that they say it is, and more, excellent food and selection of beers. A walk around the attractions of Bath was, expectedly, a good half day well spent. But Bradford on Avon is also a bit of a gem. Thanks again. Noel Durkin Arctic Fox, September 2009 Just a quick note to say thank you for supplying an excellent boat (certainly the best we have been on) and for the overall service provided during our stay. The staff were friendly and efficient and made the handover and return incredibly simple. The wine and chocolates were an unexpected treat. We would without any reservation recommend your holidays. Richard Alton. The boats are well appointed and in good condition. We found all the staff helpful, flexible and friendly. I would highly recommend Foxhangers. David Lomas FoxTerrier Thanks for a wonderful week on the Kennet & Avon - four adults and four children (not forgetting the dog!) on Fox Terrier. The boat was comfortable and superbly equipped - we have many years experience of self-catering holidays both abroad and in UK, afloat and on dry land, and I don't think I have ever had such a well-equipped kitchen! We managed to cook a celebration dinner for 8 for a family birthday with no difficulty at all. Despite fear and trepidation that it might be difficult to handle such a large narrowboat, it was no trouble at all and the "walk-through" by a member of your staff was thorough and all-encompassing. We were blessed with fantastic weather and travelled down to Bath and beyond through some of the most beautiful countryside. Thank you again for marvellous customer service - I have already mentioned your name to most of my friends and work colleagues! Janet Davies I am writing to thank you for the hire of a truly first class boat. We have hired narrowboats for many years, but never a boat with so much laid on. It felt like we had moved into the 21st century – 240v supply throughout the boat, automatic pumping out of the shower and bilges, water tanks which held enough water for several days (and a meter to reassure us that we had plenty left!), automatic transfer of gas between bottles when one ran out, sliding windows in the kitchen to allow plenty of fresh air, and plenty of storage space in cabins and kitchens for what we brought with us…. On top of that, you supplied cooking knives that were sharp, coffee mugs that held a decent amount of coffee, pint glasses (for soft drinks as well as beer!), a tool kit (essential for a broken water tap we came across) and a free-standing table, which made all the difference at meal times. Truly a first class boat! Your staff were also helpful and accommodating despite us turning up at inconvenient moments – nothing was too much trouble. So are we coming back next year? Unfortunately not – but that’s down to the canal, not yourselves. ‘There and back’ is not really something we wish to do on consecutive years. Maybe when the new link up to the Thames is open? Unknown "Foxtalbot" July 2009 Let us say we had a great time on "Foxtalbot" (July 2009). Congratulations for an outstanding service and a boat (or home) which gave us not only all we wanted but comfortable living on the water. The equipment and kitchen outfit (I was the cook) was outstanding for such little room, in fact better than a lot of "cottages" we know. The ladies want to remark the top cleanness of the boat. We do not have to mention, what a friendly crew you are! All together we are sorry that you have no boats on other canals, we sure would hire again FOXHANGERS. Jochen Stange, Stuttgart, Germany FoxHunter July 09 Extremely enjoyable, very professional outfit, wonderful settings and the children (9/10/12/14) up for the Caen Hill locks next year! - The 69ft "Foxhunter" would have been a lot harder to manoeuvre if it had not been for the excellent tuition given. All thoroughly enjoyed it we will be keen to return next year and book a Silver fox. The Papa's FoxHunter July A fantastic holiday on Foxhunter for a week from 13th July. We had eight on board, aged from 68 to 5, and we all loved it. The 9 year old fell in the first day, but then said he thought he had learnt his lesson! The boat was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed, and we much appreciated the wine and chocolates in the fridge. The locks and swing bridges kept us all busy, and the 5 year old enjoyed steering the boat, with a little help from her father. It is a beautiful canal, with lots to see and do, and I would thoroughly recommend a Foxhanger canal holiday to anyone. Thank you so much.” Belinda and crew Flying Fox, June/July 2009 “What do you do with two adults, four teenagers and a dog? Take them on a canal boat! This is the most successful holiday we’ve ever had as a family. Not only is it relaxing, but there is also plenty to do, and interesting places to visit. We also saw lots of beautiful countryside and wildlife and had many adventures (we found the dog eventually). There is always someone on the bank to help or offer advice (!), and a guaranteed audience every time you run aground. Thanks for the great boat and excellent service. Highly recommended.” Jo, Patrick, Pip, Felix, Lawrie, Rosie and Milla FoxTerrier June 09 “We hired out Foxterrier for 8 members of our family at the end of June 09 for a midweek break and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we explored some new hostelries en route to Bathampton and back. This is our 2nd holiday with you and would not hesitate to come back for a 3rd. Many thanks again.” J Fidler Foxcub “Just wanted to thank you all for such a wonderful holiday on Foxcub – our beautiful, comfortable narrowboat for a week in July 3009. All the little touches such as the bed being made up, wine and chocolates in the fridge and the first class boat induction when we picked up Foxcub were superb, and all the staff were very helpful and attentive. Our boat was spotlessly clean and the inventory on the boat was also excellent – we didn’t even have to bother buying cleaning fluids – you thought of everything. We even hired our towels! We will recommend you all highly to friends and relatives and look forward to holidaying again.” Leona Reiter FoxTrot June 09 “We had a mid week break on Foxtrot in late June 2009. The boat was lovely, as were the staff at Foxhangers when we arrived and when we reluctantly brought the boat back! Foxtrot had more than enough room for two couples and 3 dogs (only one of whom jumped into the K&A canal during our holiday!) and was exactly what we wanted. Everyone we met whilst working the locks and swing bridges were so friendly and I will definitely be recommending the K&A and Foxhangers to my friends. See you again.” Karen, Brighton FoxCub June 09 “Excellent Holiday aboard the 'Foxcub' (6/6/10-13/06/09) Ideal size for first timers.” Peter Cunning Fox “Me and six friend hired Cunning Fox from 13th-15th June, for a short break heading towards bath. As none of us had never been on a canal boat we didn't know what to expect, but after our briefing everything was fine and we all had one of our best weekends ever and we definitely be doing this on yearly basis. The staff were excellent and the boat was spotless. Cant wait till next year.” Marino and crew, Cornwall Foxtrot May 2009 “We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Foxtrot (22-29 May 2009) - an excellent boat and so well equipped with everything we needed. Mooring in the centre of the City of Bath was amazing and the canal was really beautiful. Being so close to nature and seeing all the young water birds was amazing. Many thanks for a truly memorable holiday.” Keith, Mary, Lucy, Adam, Jack and Megan Foxtail May 2009 “Super service, thanks you all were great to work with and run a darn good service. The boat was very fine and made us feel proud as we passed the other guys.” Gary and Barbara “Just wanted to say what a great time we all had and that was very much helped by the quality of your boats and excellent service we received when you were able to get all the boats ready for us together on Friday. Very clean, well laid out and functioning boats with a shower that surprised everyone (well those that used it anyway!) and the little personal touches like the wine and chocolates (I’d forgotten to bring some wine and being told there was a cold one in the fridge started my weekend off well!) Thanks again and I’m sure there will be a few, including me, that will be looking again at holidaying with you.” Mark Whitehouse "Foxglacier" 5/11th May 2009 “Just a note to thank you for a great holiday. The cleanliness of the boat, equipment and training (Richard) were first class. Again many thanks.” Roy Reynolds Foxglove, Easter 2009 “10 relaxing days on Foxglove. Weather was great most of the time. We have brought back some happy memories. Thanks to all the staff at Foxhangers who were all helpful and welcoming. We will be back next year.” Dave & Jane Langlois Fennec Fox April 2009 “We just returned from a tranquil 2-week holiday on the canal aboard the Fennec Fox in April 2009. The boat was well kitted out and very clean; everything works onboard. The canal passage to/from Bristol was nicely spaced out with serene countryside and busy Bath & Bristol. We particularly enjoyed the River Avon passage between Bath & Bristol, as it was a bit of an adventure. The sight of the Bath Weir and mooring just before it was truly an awesome experience. The one thing I’ve missed since returning to Singapore are the sounds of birds singing every morning…our wake up call.” Mark & Jessie Foxtalbot “Thank you for a perfect short break. Foxtalbot took myself, my 76 year old Mum, my husband and my two children ( 12 and 15 years) from Foxhangers to the second aqueduct past Bradford on Avon and back again, between Tuesday at 5pm to Friday at 9 am at a relaxing pace. We feel completely rested and energised at the same time. Foxtalbot gained many admiring glances from other boaters who noticed her beautifully constructed and luxurious interior as we shared locks! We are particularly impressed with the courtesy, knowledge and reassurance of the Foxhangers staff, both before and during the holiday.” Alison & Brian Johns and family April 2009 Fennec Fox “Just returned from a splendid week with the Fennec Fox. It was our first time on a narrow boat, however the comprehensive information pack, plus the hands-on initial instructions and tips meant we had no problems operating the boat, locks or swing bridges. Mooring up in Bath just below the weir on my birthday was magical. Looking forward to our next trip.” N. Arnott Foxtlabot Nov 2008 “We hired Foxtalbot in November 2008, with my wife and our daughter and partner for a 4 night mid-week break. What an amazing way to spend quality time with family or friends. We were blessed with great weather (although cool) but with the central heating, it was no problem! We found the whole experience great fun and would not hesitate using Foxhanger for another trip and have already told our family and friends in New Zealand, to try before they die! The boat was very well appointed, clean and had everything that opened and shut, the Foxhanger staff were friendly and very helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending or using Foxhangers again in the future. And the pubs were great as well!” Best Wishes, Bruce & Leeann Macaulay Foxhunter October 2008 “Spent a fantastic four fun packed days moseying up to Bath - great pubs on route and plenty of exercise to keep the waistline at bay. Boat warm and comfortable and remarkably easy to handle most of the time - even by a four year old!!!!! Managed a full cooked breakfast for eight every morning from the well equipped galley.Cold but sunny and, even though we awoke to ice on the inside of the windows, were extremely snug under the great duvets! Definitely want to return and get through Bath next time!! Highly recommended!!!” The Strilkowski's and The King's Foxtrot “For four nights, and three days, we enjoyed being in charge of Foxtrot, one of Foxhanger's fine vessels. As our skills at the helm improved, so did our enjoyment. Rainstorms, not withstanding, we remained cosy and comfortable. To be eye to eye with a resting Kingfisher was "priceless". Thank you.” Matthew & Shirley Hudson Foxterrier Sept 08 “Well, from the start of contacting Foxhangers via email we knew we'd made the right choice, attentive, friendly, cheerful bunch of people!! We hired Foxterrier a 9 berth boat for a 4 day break(22/26 Sept 2008)for a skipper, crew of 7 & baby ,well I can say it was a first class boat & service, we made it to bath & back & had some spectacular views along the way(& bacon butties..!!)the boat was fitted out very comfortably & had everything on it to make it a home from home!!! Can't wait to go again next year!” Aaron & crew, Basingstoke Cunning Fox, 27th September 2008 “Great boat, great canal, great service, great holiday. What more could you want? Many thanks and all the best.” Tritton family Flying Fox September 2008 “A great holiday on the Flying Fox in September 2008. We wanted to introduce our Danish friends to a canal boat holiday and we were not disappointed. Despite some wet and cloudy days, we had a great holiday. There was no shortage of information and the service by the Foxhanger staff was friendly and efficient. When we had problems with the gas, help came almost immediately - we felt we were in good hands and enjoyed a beer together. The boat had lots of storage space and was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We were very impressed with the inventory and loved the warm duvets - something Danish people would hate to be without! We recommended your company on several occasions when talking to other holiday makers who thought the boat looked so attractive. The only minus was the fact that we couldn't go on the Avon River because of the strong currents and heavy rainfall, but even Foxhangers have no control over the weather gods! We hope that more people from abroad will sample the delights of a canal holiday through the lovely English countryside.” Patricia Joergensen Foxterrier “I am writing to thank everyone concerned for a fabulous weekend on board Foxterrier. It was a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday and he new nothing until we turned into your gate on Friday. I am pleased to say that he enjoyed every minute of the weekend as did our children and their partners and especially our 2 year old granddaughter. The boat is superb and was well fitted out and very clean. The bottle of wine and the chocolates in the fridge were a very nice touch and our first experience of narrow boating has not disappointed us and we possibly now have the bug and will be back again.” Maureen Torah Foxterrier August 2008 “Thank you for a wonderful holiday. It was our first canal boat holiday and we are already planning our next. Everybody we met at Foxhangers, and on the canal were friendly and helpful. The standard of the boat exceeded expectations. We would not hesitate to recommend Foxhangers to anybody. Keep up the good work.” Rob Perry Foxterrier Aug 2008 “Thanks for a wonderful week on Foxterrier. The boat is one of the best we have ever hired, superbly equipped and maintained. We were particularly impressed by the two hot water tanks and the fact that we could shower first thing in the morning!” Pat and Alan Wright “Dear All, Just to say a big thank you for our excellent holiday last week. As my father had been on a few water-borne holidays in years gone by we thought a trip in a narrowboat would be an ideal 65th birthday present from the family. We were not disappointed. From the extremely friendly welcome and highly professional introduction to the craft we knew we were in for a good week. The boat was excellent (once we'd mastered the steering!) and very well equipped. The canal was glorious. Excellent cruising and good pubs at convenient intervals along the way. It was so nice to get away from cars and the generally frantic pace of normal life. Overall, a wonderfully relaxing few days. I had not done anything like this before and have now definitely got the bug. I'm working out when I can book to go up the Caen Hill flight next year. Thank you so much for an excellent holiday.” Regards Matthew Wood “Brilliant. Thank you. What a nice, friendly and efficient firm Foxhangers is! As we were leaving last Friday morning, a big dark dog fox ran across your drive in front of the car. Foxhanger indeed!” David Hanson FoxGlacier June 2008 “Four of us had a short break on Fox Glacier last weekend of June 2008. We are two couples who had never been on a canal boat before. When we arrived we were very apprehensive and wondered if we had perhaps bitten off more than we could chew. Our fears were groundless. Your induction was very professional but at the same time an entertainment in itself. When we set off we soon found we could actually do it! First we learned how to go through locks and swing bridges; a little later how to get unstuck with the barge poles; then how to park without falling in. Last how to turn round. A great thrill! A small technical problem was dealt with immediately by your extraordinarily helpful people including chauffeuring us to the best pub dinner we have ever had! We had an absolutely splendid break! We are hooked!. We are telling all our friends you've gotta do it! Kindest regards” Jules & Norman, Hanneke & Maurice of Nottingham Foxglacier June 2008 "Thanks for a lovely relaxing holiday. Went up the Caen Hill locks which was a fantastic experience and then onto Hungerford where we turned round.(106 locks in total for week). Staff were very friendly and the boat was excellent. Hope to hire from them again in the future." John Foxtrot May Day bank holiday2008 "Just a quick note to say thanks for a brilliant holiday! we hired the Foxtrot on the May Day bank holiday weekend in 2008. Excellent training, staff all helpful, friendly and patient, and wonderful boat with excellent facilities. A most relaxing, enjoyable weekend. Excellent detailed information provided about local pubs, stuff to look at, and maps. Boats were straightforward to use (with a bit of practice) and locks, bridges, all the same. Would highly recommend your service to anyone!" Vera and crew Cunning Fox, April 2008 "Thank you all for such a pleasant holiday, all your staff were really helpful and the boat was well equipped and the layout was great" Shaun Fox Foxtalbot from April "We hired the Foxtalbot from 14-18 April; had a marvellous time. Boat very comfortable, well appointed and warm; canal beautiful, weather cold but dry, thank goodness. A very relaxing break. All the staff at Foxhangers were very helpful. We hope to come back again."
