Lovely clean boat. We had a good time - six of us. Ideal for small crowd. Would recommend it. Foxhangers was a good and professional company.

Foxglacier 28-31 October 2016

Our weekend trip aboard Fox Glacier was absolutely brilliant.  Our party of four adults and one child accommodated really well, and all the facilities on our barge were really  good.  The trip we took only got us to Trowbridge, but we will definitely be coming again, and will probably book for a week next time.  All the staff at Foxhangers were very pleasant and informative (Dave).  Thanks again for a great weekend, and we look forward to coming to visit you again soon.

Cunning Fox 21-24 October 2016
Dear Foxhangers,
We would just like to say what a fantastic weekend we had! It was a surprise for my partners 40th birthday, and we couldn't have been happier with the weekend! We loved the boat which was spacious enough for 7 of us, and the facilities on board were great! We managed to find a beautiful local pub, and also managed to go into the beautiful city of Bradford On Avon for the day.
All in all it was an amazing weekend, and we would definitely be visiting foxhangers again. It is reasonably priced compared to others and we felt it was extremely good value for money!
Thanks again,
Charlene Johnson & friends

FoxTalbot 21-24 October 2016
We all loved the weekend.  The boat was absolutely immaculate and everything worked very well.  Will definitely recommend it to friends - and next time we come, we plan to tackle the locks up Caen Hill and spend more than a weekend on the boat.  Many thanks.

Cunning Fox 14-17 October 2016
We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend aboard ‘Cunning Fox’ and are already making plans to possibly do the same thing next year (hopefully longer than a weekend next time)! Foxhangers made everything easy and the tuition would relax even the most apprehensive first time skipper.
In one weekend we made it to the Avoncliff aqueduct before returning to base for Sunday evening. We would recommend the Barge Inn, Seend and the Swan Hotel in Bradford on Avon for differing but both excellent evening meals.
I have made a video which can be found here: https://youtu.be/SCT5vvTvnpw
Happy for you to use this on your website or wherever. Hopefully it gives an insight to those first timers who are considering a boating holiday!
Hopefully see you soon,

Foxglove 30 September - 7 October 2016
I and my 'crew' had an excellent holiday on your boat 'Foxglove'
The information you supplied beforehand was  very good.
On arrival your staff were friendly and helpful.
The boat was clean, and the equipment very good.
When, during our week we had a problem with the heating, a call to your emergency number rapidly produced an engineer who fixed the problem.
I would certainly hire from you again, and recommend you to others.

Foxterrier 7-10 October 2016
We had an amazing weekend with Foxhangers. They are a very friendly, relaxed and efficient company. Having never been on a narrow boat before I really didn’t know what to expect but I needn’t have worried. The boat was really comfortable and I soon got the hang of it. I even steered the boat! Definitely recommend Foxhangers to all.

Foxtrot & Foxtalbot 30 September to 3 October 2016
A group of 11 had a great weekend on Foxtrot and FoxTalbot. Both boats are fantastically equipped, spacious (for a narrow boat) and in very good working order. The Information provided at the start enabled us to make a very good plan that suited our group well.
All in all a very good weekend.
Many thanks
Mr Price

Foxglove 26-30 September 2016
With over 35 years spent enjoying the Inland Waterways one challenge not achieved until this year was to cruise the Caen Hill flight. My daughter and I recently achieved this during a 4 night hire on Foxglove from Foxhanger Narrowboats.
The whole process of making the arrangements was very pleasant and professional compared with my previous experiences of hiring, although the last time was many years ago. (I am now fortunate to be a member of a private boat owning syndicate)
On arrival at the base our boat was ready on time and was impressively well presented with even a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine in the fridge. After unloading the car we immediately familiarised ourselves with Foxglove before being joined by Dave who gave a very comprehensive handover. He did know that we were experienced but even so left nothing out in a very detailed and pleasant demo. through the boat and all the installed functions.
Once Dave was happy we signed the handover paperwork and set off. Foxglove performs very well and being a 4 berth meant we had plenty of room. In the 4 day trip we not only achieved our main target with time to spare, but also cruised almost to Trowbridge in the other direction meeting the usual mix of very pleasant people on the way.
Foxhanger Boats came recommended by a friend who lives near the canal and his good views as to their fleet were no exaggeration.
Pleasant people ,very professional with a good product is how I would describe  Foxhanger
Thanks for a great stay

Tibetan Fox 19-26 September 2016
Excellent customer care from Foxhangers' staff, including a phone call the week before we arrived, just to check our group size hadn't changed and to see if we had any questions. We were given an excellent "run through" about the boat itself upon arrival and a quick demo on lock operation just a stone's throw from their boatyard. All questions answered in layman's terms and we were very quickly put at ease. It was my first time on the canal and a 58 foot boat was quite a daunting prospect. We were able to very conveniently park our car right next to the boat to transfer all our luggage into the side doors of the boat and then park securely, on Foxhangers premises.
The boat was extremely well equipped; the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were clean and comfortable, the interior was very comfortable and well presented. The TV worked well, despite being warned the reception was poor but we only watched it for five minutes, during the whole trip, preferring instead, to sit outside and look at the stars with a glass of wine. Power supply was good for charging phones and ipads allowing us to post some amazing photos to our friends and family, although 3G coverage was a little sketchy in places along the route.
The bathroom was certainly adequate. The water heater was very good and the showers after a long day at the tiller were both hot and welcome. However, I would certainly urge you to bring at least three types of air freshener for that room. The flushing system on the toilet was mechanically sound but the odours were extremely pungent and not the kind of odours you would naturally expect, more of a "chemical" smell... think Portaloo!
I would estimate this boat as being comfortable for four people but a squeeze for 6, particularly at night, when using the bathroom or getting up for a glass of water. We were a party of two and coped with locks, mooring and steering more than adequately.
I soon mastered the steering although setting off from a mooring did prove quite challenging. Mooring up was easy, leaving that spot was hard as I found getting the bow out, easy, but getting the stern out was harder...I seemed to just run along the bank for a bit in a straight line.
The (walking) pace of life on the canal is very relaxing. If you are looking to get away from the "Rat Race" for a bit, this is the perfect tonic. One very quickly adapts to the slower pace, and this enables you to gorge yourself on the stunning British countryside and to catch many glimpses of wildlife. swans, Herons and Kingfishers are in abundance, maybe take some binoculars along too.
It was a great feeling to moor up and go to the pub for a meal and come back to the boat afterwards; it became a very nice base to return to although I was nervous each time I had to use pins when there were no cleats or rings to moor to. As with boating and steering it pays not to let your mind wander or be distracted as things change rapidly if you aren't focussed.
Bring portable lights if you are the sort who likes to be outside at night, in the ample seating area both fore and aft. There is (thank God) no lighting on the K & A and finding small things (like your glasses or phone) can prove tricky in the dark. Foxhangers do provide a torch but I would recommend bringing at least one more of your own, and/or a safe camping type light that you can set down on a flat surface. Take your torch/light with you when you leave the boat in the evenings - the towpath is dark and there are other obstacles besides other boaters' mooring ropes to trip over or stand on.
Do remember to fill up with water regularly. We found ourselves using a great deal and filled up three times in five days, that was without any cooking, just from showering and washing up.
Full size gas oven was great, although we didn't cook much, instead choosing to make sandwiches for lunch and heading to the pub for dinner - this left us more time to enjoy the trip without the shackles of so much domesticity, which is what being on a break is all about. There are some excellent pubs which you should spend some time researching before you head off. We were not served a bad meal anywhere. Some have their own moorings and others are a little walk away. One gave us a tub of ice to take back to the boat; they are boater friendly as I would imagine boaters make up a fair proportion of their trade. There are several shops and supermarkets en route from which you can stock up the boat's cupboards.. Again, do your research on their locations before you set off, and plan where to moor in order to shop. Maps provided by Foxhangers are more than adequate as are the the pages of info and the dvd they post to you pre trip.
Build up your arms before you arrive as you will be doing a great deal of waving en route. Not just other boaters but dog walkers and cyclists are all very friendly. Sadly there is a group of "residents" who aren't quite so friendly and seem to be under the impression that the Waterways belong to them and they resented our presence. This was the one and only downside to the entire trip.
If you have bicycles, do bring them. The towpath is in excellent condition and it is FLAT; so you could moor and cycle for miles. Perhaps also bring some padlocks for them too, if getting them on board (inside) and off again does not appeal.
We comfortably made it to Keynsham, (and back) in five days, successfully navigating the second deepest lock in the UK (OK we had some help from the Canal and Rivers Trust Volunteers - who were brilliant and helpful) and the dramatic change from being on a canal to being on a river was most enjoyable. I would certainly recommend going on the river (at Bath) if only to see the weir there and the splendid architecture. From there on, the "traffic" thinned out a little.
There are restrictions on the hours it is permitted to move or have an engine running, so I would say we were moving for about seven hours a day.
There was no need to empty the waste tank or get more diesel in a week, the only essential stops were to eat and take water on board, but if you stock up with enough food and cook all your own meals, you could probably increase your mileage and make it to Bristol and back in five days.
We didn't manage the Caen Flight but we did enjoy a splendid Cream Tea at the cafe situated about half way up which I would recommend.
We had a superb trip, thanks Foxhangers....we will return, maybe for a larger vessel. Thank you.
Mr Ayling

Our 3rd hiring from Foxhangers and we were not disappointed. Boat good and service excellent. We left a coat behind which was posted on to us and no charge made.

Arctic Fox 10-17 September 2016
Dear Foxhangers
Thank you very much for a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday.  We had amazing weather and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the Caen Flight.  Arctic Fox was very well equipped and comfortable and the staff at the boatyard were very helpful.
Roo the dog also enjoyed it and soon learned not to fall in!

Foxglove 16-19 September 2016
Just back from an excellent long weekend on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
We had the narrow boat ‘Foxglove’ from Foxhangers. All was in good order and we had very good information sent through before our cruise together with an excellent introduction from Mike when we arrived. Needing to be back for 9.00 a.m. is not ideal when just having a long weekend but would not matter if hiring for a week or more. Also we understand that starting and finishing times do vary so that some boats do not need to be back until 11.00 a.m.  All in all a great way to ‘get away from it all’ and we look forward to hiring again from Foxhangers.
Margaret and David Birch

Snooty Fox 27 August-3 September 2016
Dear Foxhangers,
Thank you for a great holiday.  I have attached a few photos which you are welcome to use as you wish.
The handover procedure was very thorough and informative, explaining the key aspects of the boat.  The manual on the boat was a useful reminder when we needed reassurance.  The boat was in great condition and well equipped with all the essentials needed for the trip.  There was ample storage which was appreciated.  We were blessed with fantastic weather through our week aboard, making it all the way to Bristol Floating Harbour and back without a hitch.  Our favourite part of the trip was being on the Avon beyond Bath, particularly the final stretch from Hanham Lock to Bristol which was just idyllic.
We have had a number of family canal boat holidays previously but this was the first time with our dog, Flynn who loved it.  He was very much at home laid down on the stern, supporting the Skipper.    Maybe next time we should head east, although this may be a tougher challenge with the number of locks!
Thanks again,
Robert & Julia Allen

Had an enjoyable week. Very pleased with boat and contents, layout and cleanliness. Hope to return next year

Foxhunter 26-30 August 2016
What a great holiday. Nine of us on board plus a dog. Accommodation cosy but comfortable. Enjoyed the challenge of the Caen Locks. Staff excellent from pre booking through to return. 10/10.

Snooty Fox 20-27 August 2016
Had a wonderful time on the Kennet and Avon canal with the Snooty Fox.  Didn't have any problems with the boat and it was in an excellent condition.  I couldn't find fault with Foxhangers, the introduction to the boat and its operation was great as was the DVD we were sent beforehand. I would definitely use them again.

FoxTalbot 27 June - 4 August 2016
We had a fantastic holiday with the help of a very comfortable and well equipped boat hired from Foxhangers. It had everything we needed for an enjoyable holiday - even good TV reception! and thanks to Colin who very patiently gave us some training to help us on our way. Kitchen was also well stocked with cooking utensils if we didn't fancy a pub meal along the canal route. Went from Foxhangers (near Devizes) to Bath and back (fairly easy beginners route). Had plenty of laughs, even the unreliable British weather didn't spoil our fun. A bit crazy on the first day, having a 62ft long boat not quite as easy as parking a car but we soon got the hang of it! Would definitely do it again. To anybody considering a canal holiday we would definitely recommend Foxhangers boats, they seem well organised and cater perfectly to people's needs.

Six of us recently a wonderful week's holiday on Cunning Fox, going west from Foxhangers to Bath and back. The weather was with us, for the most part, the scenery beautiful and Cunning Fox ran like a dream throughout. Foxhangers staff are wonderful people who did a marvellous job of helping us prepare and plan our route, and did their best to accommodate any and all requirements. While the week seems a long time ago now, we'll remember it for a long time and look forward to repeating the experience in the future.

We loved the boat and will be recommending to everyone, we had wonderful weather and met some lovely people along the way... See you all again next year, big thank you to all that made our holiday wonderful

Whilst I’ve done many canal holiday’s before this was my first experience on the Kennet & Avon and of Foxhangers. I have been truly impressed right from the outset when making the original booking. The booking team were so very helpful and really wanted to make sure that they got every aspect of our holiday right.
Our boat was very clean and nicely set out - everything we could possibly have needed was available and neatly stowed.
Only three or our group of 8 (which included 1 four-yr old and two family members visiting from Thailand) had been on a canal before but everyone was entranced by the picturesque route from Foxhangers to Bradford on Avon. The wild flowers and birdlife were a true highlight and we were all excited to find glow-worms.
The number of locks and swing bridges on this route was perfect for a novice team - enough to be really interesting but not so many to be demanding and the pubs were very good too.
Thank you to all the team at Foxhanger’s we had a truly great few days. Will be back soon and we might just opt to turn right out of your base next time … but having driven up and looked at Caen Hill we might need a fitter crew!
PS - one top tip … Tesco did an ace job delivering food to the boat. I hadn’t realised that there was a local shop that did deliveries and next time might opt to use them also.

Lazy Fox 5-8 August 2016
We hired the Lazy Fox for a week in August 2016 and had a wonderful week.  I hired the boat for me, my husband and three children aged 9, 12 and 14.  The boat was in excellent condition: very comfortable beds and pillows, good bathrooms and well equipped kitchen.  Plenty of storage once you discover it all.  The staff at foxhangers could not have been more helpful.  They gave good instruction (although I had done this once previously so had a general sense) and sensible, clear advice.  When we had some trouble with the engine they came out immediately and sorted it out.  That part of the K&A canal is magnificent, lots of swing bridges and locks and several aqueducts.  We headed West and went to Bath and back and then West up the flight of Caen which was great fun too.  There are good pubs en route and easy water points as well as shops for stocking up.  Top tips from the week: (1) Don't be a in a rush, there's no point. (2) when coming upstream through the Bath Deep lock CLOSE THE DOORS at the front and make sure nothing is left outside as the water pours through a gap in the lock doors and will soak everything at the front of the boat - in our case
books, magazines, jumpers. We will definitely hire a boat again - pity there isn't another Foxhangers somewhere else.

This experience was excellent from initial booking through to handover and support - it is very rare these days to get such excellent customer service - I thought this would be a once off holiday but I will be back.

Foxtrot 25 July - 1 August 2016
We have just returned from a week long holiday on Foxtrot.
From the very first phone call to the handover on day 1, I found the customer service top drawer.
The Kennet and Avon canal is beautiful and well worth a trip. In doing so I can highly recommend doing this aboard a Foxhangers craft, with the backing of their customer service and professional handover, it will instil confidence even to the inexperienced.
Thank you for a great holiday experience.

Wily Fox 22 - 29 July 2016
Dear All at Foxhangers,
We have just finished a fantastic week on your lovely boat Wily Fox. The whole experience from booking the trip with Sharon and Richard’s tutorials was an extremely positive and enjoyable process. My Father flew from Australia to join myself and my two sons to make it a very memorable 3 generation boys’ holiday. We did the Bath and back trip in a week and found it to be perfect for what we were after, lovely places to moor up and stay overnight, lovely Bradford on Avon and Bath to explore, and the odd pub on the water to add that extra stop off when needed. We all would have happily turned the Wily Fox around on our last day and done it all again, we will be back.
Steve Lidgerwood

Fennec Fox 16-23 July 2016
Wonderful holiday, lovely boat, and at some point I will be back to do the lock stair!
(really good arrangement with Rowde Village Shop, having such a wide range of food available to pay by credit card and then have actually delivered to the boat - first time we’ve had that available and it was a great ‘add on’ detail to the holiday).

To whom it may concern,
With reference to our recent holiday on the Foxhangers barge the "Snooty the fox".
We would like to thank the very professional manner of all the staff, from the first point of booking with your extremely friendly and helpful receptionist and booking agent.
The barge was very well equipped, and we had no problems with any mechanical issues.
We enjoyed all the friendly barge owners along the canal, and would recommend this as a holiday to all, ages.
Thank you very much.
With kind regards
Mr And Mrs Griffiths

Arctic Fox 4-11 June 2016

From my original telephone conversation with the lovely Daryl, David’s excellent briefing, our wonderful boat Arctic Fox and the amazing scenery on The Kennett and Avon canal every thing was just perfect. It was a very enjoyable week. Thank you.
Mr P Ellsley

Cunning Fox 6-10 June 2016

On arrival the handover was very thorough and informative (but not too long) once David was happy we were on our way. Canal boating is the most relaxing way to see the countryside and wildlife, you can feel your work stresses leaving your body as you chug along at just 3-4 miles an hour. We made it to Bath to wind-round by late afternoon second day then back to Bathampton to moor up and sample the great food at the George Inn, spent the day in Bath Wednesday, then back to Foxhangers Wharf for Friday Morning. I have used Foxhangers twice before with workmates and now with Family and I will definitely use them again. Many thanks.... Steve.

Fox Talbot 31 May - 3 June 2016

We had great time on our first adventure aboard a Narrow Boat. The efficiency of all fox hangers staff was 1st class.
Foxtalbot was a very well equipped and comfortable boat.
Thanks to excellent tuition handling the craft soon became easyish.
We will be considering another adventure with Foxhangers perhaps next year.
Thanks to you all
Mr David Leadbetter

Cunning Fox 23-31 May 2016
Everybody enjoyed themselves so much so that the grandchildren want to go again and one daughter-in-law in particular who prefers the more exotic locations was waxing lyrical about the peace and serenity that you get on the canal and is looking at going again. So we couldn't have asked for more.
Mr & Mrs Morgan

Foxtrot 25-29 April 2016

Great holiday staff all friendly. We went with 3 adults, 1 10 month boy and 1 dog, the suggestion of removing the double mattress and putting travel con worked very well. Dog enjoyed trip fresh place to walk every day.  See Picture of Boris the barge dog looking for ducks

Foxglove 22-25 April 2016
Dear Sharon & Team
Thank you for your email and again a big thank you to everyone who helped us when Alan became ill. It was disappointing that our holiday didn't go as planned but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being on "Foxglove" and it gave us a "taster" of Canal Boating on the Kennet & Avon. It appeared to us that all members of the Foxhangers Crew were not only very helpful but seemed to enjoy their work which for us made for a very comfortable relaxing atmosphere and we would not hesitate to recommend the Company.
After having consulted our Doctor here in Spain Alan now has an appointment with a Hospital Consultant next week to decide on further treatment and hopefully he will be back to normal very soon.
We would like to think that we could try Foxhangers again but perhaps at a warmer time of year!
Mr & Mrs Blewitt

Fox Talbot 18-25 April 2016
We’ve already booked to come back in a couple of months time as we had such a good time I want to take my son along next time.

Foxglove 8-11 April 2016
Hi a few photos of our great weekend on your barge, our first time on a barge, we all are boat people as we have speed boats, and the weekend we went was, so relaxing and enjoyable, lovely pubs on route. Everyone very friendly and helpful. We will defiantly have another barge weekend at some point. Great we can bring our 2 little dogs who loved walking along the toll path with the girls as the boys were driving. The boat was lovely and clean and very well equipped with everything we needed to use. the central heating was a God send for this time of year and worked brilliantly especially when there was a down pour and the boys got really wet!?  Thank you from the Edwards And Locks ( yes they really are called Mr & Mrs Lock) and the 2 dogs Hollie & Milo

To everyone at Foxhangers
We cannot thank you enough for our fantastic weekend break. From the extremely cheery welcome at Reception, to the beautiful narrow boat, via the efficient induction, we all enjoyed the experience enormously.
The wine and chocolates were a lovely touch, as was the provision of more than one loo roll! In fact the boat was very well equipped and we wanted for nothing.
Thank you for arranging such marvellous weather as well.

Wily Fox 25-29 March 2016
Despite the grim weather and the passage of storm ‘Katie’ over Easter we had a wonderful 4 Days aboard ‘Wily Fox’ travelling between Foxhangers, at the foot of the Caen Hill flight of locks, to the Claverton Pump turning circle near Bathampton.
Yes, the locks were challenging but the swing bridges were a doddle and being active winding ‘Paddles’, opening and closing the lock Gates and meeting and sharing passage through the locks, with other boaters was both companionable and a delight. Cut off from the mobile phone and the laptop in the peace of the countryside, it was so easy to find an isolated spot to moor up for the night - stress was an aeon away. There was the odd pub that we could have visited, for a pint and a meal, but we chose to 'cook in' using the amazing facilities aboard, with a chance to chat before snuggling down for a comfortable nights sleep -no problem!
Our boat ‘Wily Fox’ was brand new and had been properly run in and serviced beforehand. Pickup and briefing was on time taking only half an hour and hand-back with checks at the end of our trip a mere ten minutes. Everything went like clockwork, all details were taken care of by 'Foxhangers ‘ staff with smiles all round.
Will we do it again well, what do you think? The Caen Hill flight of locks beckons.

We had a fabulous weekend on the Kennet and Avon canal on the Cunning Fox.
The weather was warm and the boat was comfortable. The Foxhangers staff were extremely helpful and flexible. Would definitely recommend Foxhangers Thank you

Urban Fox
Thank you for a lovely holiday. I came with my aunties and uncles and we had a boat called Urban Fox. I loved that the cabin I had could be converted so that I had a desk for my games console. It was easy to do myself - when we first arrived a man called Richard showed us how everything worked.
We did some fishing and I caught a fish but my uncle didn’t.
I really enjoyed helping to operate the locks and my uncle even let me drive the boat! I am looking forward to going back next year.

Many thanks for a superb 4-night trip from Foxhangers.  The boat was well equipped and comfortable, and the service was excellent, both at the start and when we needed assistance at the canalside.  We had an excellent trip to Bath and back, and would highly recommend Foxhangers to others.

To everyone at Foxhangers
We had a fabulous week on your narrow boat Fox Talbot. From the moment of our first enquiry and the pre-departure information received, to the friendly reception on our arrival by your staff,  professional briefing , cleanliness and condition of the boat, everything went really well. The handover at the end was quick, courteous and hassle free.
We would certainly recommend your services to others and when the time comes make another trip with you.
Many thanks for everything.

Flying Fox 5-12 September
We enjoyed our holiday on one of your narrow boats. This was our first experience of narrow boats and we found the initial explanation by one of your staff very helpful. We thought the boat was well equipped and comfortable. The cost of hiring the boat was very reasonable and given there is no need to spend any more money during the holiday it was a cheap holiday. Being able to stay at locations in the middle of the countryside overnight is something one could not do any other way. It was also nice being able to stop for a meal at the excellent pubs along the canal and not have to worry about having to drive home because the boat can be moored outside the pub!!

I’m writing to thanks you for a really enjoyable mid-week break on-board Lazy Fox. From my first phone call to make my booking until we drove away from the boat everyone from your company were friendly, helpful and really professional. We look forward to booking another holiday with you in the future.

Urban Fox 12-19 September
Our party of 5 adults and a dog headed west from Foxhangers in Urban Fox for our 1 week "cruise". A fairly comprehensive hand over and we were on our way. Our 9 berth boat which we chose so we could each have our own bedroom without the need to make up beds in the lounge area each night and the freedom for everyone to turn in when they wanted to, worked well. It was very well equipped especially the galley. With the exception of one, all the canal side pubs made us, including the dog, very welcome. Food and drinks were outstanding everywhere we went. We made it to the Avon in 3 days at a leisurely pace before turning back. One tip we would highly recommend is to make a note of the places you want to stop on the return journey so you know where to stop to reduce walking. It can get busy in the popular spots and mooring spaces get filled quickly at the end of the day.

Arctic Fox 29 August - 5 September
We had lovely week and everything we needed on our boat. Thank you for chocolates and wine. The staff were all very helpful. We really enjoyed visiting Bath and Bradford on Avon.

Foxterrier 28 August - 1 September
We have used Foxhangers several times over the years. Great boats, clean and well appointed, The staff are fantastic and helpful and the ease of access and set-up at the wharf is great and painless. The stretch of canal down to Bath is stunningly beautiful and there are many all important canal side pubs to choose from and plenty to do by way of locks and swing bridges. Everyone you meet is helpful and pleasant. Highly recommended!!
Mr Hollingworth

Foxhunter and Lazy Fox 28 August-1 September
Our family canal boating weekend was fantastic! We had two boats and it was the first time we had ever done such a thing. Foxhangers was the perfect choice with regards to easy of booking, information provided, flexibility and customer service. Plus, the location for picking up the boats and training made it very easy. The boats were well equipped, clean and a pleasure to use and stay on. Foxhangers are a very professional, friendly company and we can certainly recommend them and we will be booking again. Thank you for making our holiday very memorable.
Mrs Terrey

Foxcub 28 August-5 September
I just wanted to say what a great time we had and how well equipped and clean the boat was.
The introduction at the start was very good, considering this was our first time and we felt that we did pretty well considering. We went all the way to Bath and back in about 4 days so we decided to then tackle the Caen locks and went all the way to Devizes and back in time for delivering the boat back after 6 days of boating. I believe we did about 34 locks on our last day plus several swing bridges. Plenty of kingfishers were seen and the aqueducts and canal side pubs were great!
Mr Richard Hollingsworth

Fox Talbot 24-28 August
In spite of wet weather at the start of our holiday we very much enjoyed ourselves. The quality of the information provided before we arrived was excellent. We did not need to hunt for any other guides. The equipment on board compared favourably with what I had experienced previously. Everyone one was very friendly and Gary’s handover briefing was very thorough. He even phoned us because he thought he had failed to explain the central heating (although he had). The engine had clearly been very well maintained. Although the manual was very thorough it was useful to be warned that there were some winding holes that were too short for our boat.
We were grateful for advice on the best place to view the Caen Hill flight - we didn’t go that way in the boat of course - and enjoyed a chat with one of the volunteers.
We would certainly choose Fox Hangers if we came on the K&A again.
Mr David Smith

Cunning Fox and Foxtrot 21-24 August
We had two boats Cunning Fox and Foxtrot for a family group of 16 over a long weekend in August. Only three people had previous experience on narrow boats but that did not matter and by the end of the weekend we had two new budding skippers. The size of the boats were just right for what we wanted, although we were full up we all seemed to have plenty of space, the boats are very well designed, clean and well equipped, and Foxhangers could not have been more helpful. With such a big group we tended to eat our main meals at pubs and there was plenty of choice but the Brewery at Seend did us proud, having booked ahead for the first evening. The trip down to Bradford and back was just right giving everyone enough to do in terms of locks and swing bridges, the verdict was that it was all great fun and worth repeating.
Mr Garth Long

Tibetan Fox 17-21 August
As novices we were a little apprehensive when faced with a 58ft narrow boat, but found the package sent to us by Foxhangers prior to our holiday a great help. The tuition was good and helped build our confidence, and we were soon on out way. Thoroughly enjoyed our week on the canal, with no major mishaps. Would thoroughly recommend Foxhangers to anyone whether or not experienced.
Mr Rodgers

Foxhunter 10-14 August
Despite far from perfect weather we had a most enjoyable mid-week break on Foxhunter this August. The boat was spotless, the beds/bunks were comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean with everything supplied as promised. What more can I say. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we all enjoyed ourselves including my grandson's greyhound.

FoxTalbot 7-14 August 2015
Dear Foxhangers,
A month has passed since we completed our one-week Foxhangers holiday on Fox Talbot, and my wife is still raving about what a great time she had motoring to Bath and back. We want to take this opportunity to tell you about the high points for us.
Although I was involved in the boat business in Miami a few decades ago, we had never operated a narrow boat previously, so it was all a new experience for us, unlike the high-speed powerboats and sailboats in my previous experience.
As someone with lots of prior boating experience, I was particularly impressed with how well thought-out Fox Talbot was. Foxhangers did an excellent job of anticipating the operation of the boat and where things are when you need them. I was pleasantly surprised at the way hot water appeared at any of the three taps - galley, forward head or aft head - as soon as the water was turned on. It was much better than even in our own home, and that helped us conserve our boat’s limited water supply. We particularly enjoyed the short tour we had of the new boat being fitted out in your workshop. It was very impressive to see the quality of the work you are doing there.
We were also pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the bunks. Before the trip, my high-school friend, who is 6’2”, wondered whether there would be room in their bed for himself and his wife, or if one of them might have to sleep in the salon. It turned out that they both slept comfortably in the bed in the aft cabin for the whole week.
We want to thank your personnel who gave us our brief introduction to the boat when we picked it up for a very thorough summary of the procedures for operating the hob, filling the water tank, checking the engine oil and water, cleaning the weed hatch, and operating the heads. The onboard manual was also helpful. Everything worked flawlessly. We are looking forward to the opening of the circular route you mentioned and another longer canal holiday after that becomes available.

Foxterrier 27-31 July
This was the second time we have used your boats, once in October 2014 and of course last week. On both occasions we had lovely time. We have been canal boating for 40 years on and off, but up until last October we hadn't been in recent years.
We found everything easier, even buying milk was easier than it used to be. We found all the Staff at Foxhangers to be friendly and professional. If we boat again it will definitely be with you, we need to do the other side.
Thank you again for lovely holiday, just ploughing through the washing.
Mike and Janet Padwick

Foxtrot 20-14 July
Foxtrot was clean and well maintained. Staff were exactly as I’ve come to expect from narrow boat holiday companies - friendly and helpful - even drove out to intercept us when we left the yard on the first day without out ‘how to’/information folder.
Bath and back in four nights was easily done and it’s a lovely route.
Would recommend Foxhangers to everyone.

Foxtrot 3-6 July
Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly reception staff and sent down to the boat yard to collect our boat Foxtrot. We were then given a demonstration of how to operate a lock and a full run down of the boat including safety tips and the best places to stop for food and mooring on the way. Once complete we were given a lesson in steering the boat and how to stop it and then we were on our way, we had the boat form 3pm Friday to 9am Monday we managed to make it to Bath by Saturday afternoon and back to Devizes on the Sunday, the Foxhangers staff had warned us that Bath was a 10 boat away and they were spot on we set off at 10am and moored up 15 mins form Foxhangers at 8pm we only stopped for locks and to fill with water. The whole weekend was a blast though with everyone trying their hand as skipper, some more successfully than others. The boat itself was very well kitted out with enough space for the 6 of us and all the amenities needed. I will defiantly be contacting Foxhangers again in the future as it was the perfect way to spend the weekend!
Mr M Duggard

Lazy Fox 3-10 July
Three generations aboard the Lazy Fox debuted in canal boat with a weeklong trip along the Kennet & Avon canal heading for Bath on a Saturday morning in July. Without prior experience with canal boats, but with a few hours of qualified guidance / training of Mike turned out to be a week to remember for both children and adults. A wonderful holiday in totally new but fascinating surroundings.
Lazy Fox was a wonderful and well equipped boat that met all our needs during the trip. Despite its size could even we novices, quiet and clean manoeuvre through the locks and Aqueduct, under bridges and swing bridges, or moor at a suitable pub for a nice lunch along the canal.
We moved from day to day still and quiet past beautiful and open landscape to Bradford on Avon and then move on to more varied and perhaps even more beautiful surroundings until Bath before returning to Foxhangers.
A thank you to all at Foxhangers who made sure everything was set for a wonderful and memorable week at Kennet & Avon canal.
Mr Palshaugen, Norway

Foxglacier 22-25 June

I have hired numerous boats from various yards in the Midlands and the SouthWest, and Foxhangers are right up there for service, quality of boat and attitude. Well done, we all had a fab holiday....
Mr Underhill

Foxterrier 22-26 June
Yet another fantastic break on Foxterrier!
This member of the Foxy Fleet suits us down to the ground and, at 69 feet, it had plenty of space for the family (even the father in law, haha!).
All of our group really enjoy this kind of holiday as there is something for everyone to do whether at the tiller, operating the locks, walking the dog of just chilling out on the boat.
Thanks to all the Foxhangers staff and we hope to see you in September when I will collect my hats xx!
Mrs Karen Griffiths

Lazy Fox 15-19 June

Hi just a line or two thank everyone at Foxhangers and to let everyone know about the wonderful 4 days we spent on the Lazy Fox.
We arrived at Foxhangers on Monday 15th June four nervous pensioners never being on a canal boat before but we were soon put at ease by the welcome we were given by the amazing staff at Foxhangers.
We drove down to the boat and unloaded our luggage and when we were ready we were taken through the boat by Richard and had everything explained to us.
The boat was very well equipped and spotlessly clean a credit to the Foxhangers staff (please leave it this way when returning)
After the initial training we went up to the locks and received more training on emptying, opening and closing the locks nothing was left to chance and all questions answered by Richard in a friendly but professional way.
It was then back to the boat and when the Richard was sure that we were happy with what we would be doing we set off.
Richard showed how to steer the boat and how to park it up, He then got off and with a cheery wave we set off to tie up for the night by the Three Magpies Pub and have a meal.
We then spent the next few days tootling along the canal taking in the amazing views and watching the wildlife.
We turned around at Bradford on Avon a lovely place, if you go there visit the lock inn for a meal there's a large variety of food at very reasonable prices.
For anyone thinking of going on a canal holiday do not worry about anything go to Foxhangers everything is explained to you there is no rush you will only go when you are ready, we met dozens of friendly people who where always willing to help and give advice in fact we never went through a lock on our own we always went through with others they helped us and we helped them.
We will certainly be going boating again and when we do the Kennet and Avon it will certainly be with Foxhangers.
One last thing  when you book you will be sent a boaters handbook and a DVD these are a must please read them it will make your trip a lot easier I read the book about five times and a bit more sunk in every time.
Mr Derek Owen

Arctic Fox 13-20 June
All four of us really enjoyed our week on Arctic Fox and thank you for the complimentary wine and chocolates, they didn't last long!
We found the initial instructions very good, as we were "first timers". The boat was very well equipped and clean.
The staff were very polite and helpful.
Thank you.
Mr Palmer

Foxglove 5-12 June

We had a fantastic week aboard lovely Foxglove from the 5th-12th June 2015. The weather & scenery was beautiful we spent a day in Bath moored on the river & stopped at various pubs along the way all fantastic food.
What I must really thank is the amazing staff at Foxhangers as our friends left their camera on board & didn't realise until we got home. A member of staff had to go after the boat & retrieve the camera for us
Will definitely holiday with Foxhangers again.
Also the dogs loved it

Foxglove 29 May - 4 June

My sister and I (71 and 67 year old) had no experience with boats when we arrived to rent the 47’ “Foxglove” for a week in late May.  After our 1 1/2 hour tutorial, we headed West on the canal, terrified despite the assurance that we “would be fine”.  The first morning we actually could not start the boat and had to call for help.  In ten minutes our Foxhanger “saviour” arrived and not only schooled us, again, on how to start the boat but offered to accompany us through the first swing bridge.  Best of all, this assistance was done with a smile.
We were soon on our way receiving help and companionship all along the way from Foxhangers to Bath and back.  We never had a single problem with the boat and enjoyed the handsome and well-appointed, extremely clean interior.  The banks of the canal were lined with yellow iris and other wildflowers, ducks and swans swam beside us and herons flew overhead. This was a magical experience.

Fox Talbot 26-29 May

We hired the Fox Talbot for 4 days. The boat was a 7 berth which was comfortable enough for the 6 of us who were on board. It had all of the conveniences we needed. On arrival the staff could not have been more helpful. We were taken through a briefing, which explained the basics of boat maintenance and handling, in addition to the helpful information pack which was sent out on confirmation of the booking. The boat was immaculately clean and tidy throughout. If you want a gentle paced time away from home, where everyone is friendly and helpful, then this is the holiday to have especially when the weather is as good as it was between 26 - 29th May. Will definitely book again.
Mrs Lisa Thomas

Fox Talbot 26th - 30th May 2015
What a fantastic break. We hired the FoxTalbot from May 26th to Friday 30th. The boat not only looked impressive, it was impressive! From the moment you cast off it is peace and tranquillity, Ducks with ducklings, swans with signets and kingfishers were all there ready to be seen. The Pubs were all of a high standard although most of them (understandably?) were a little on the pricey side. We travelled with friends who we had never been away with before and the time just flew by, it felt like we were back before we left!! The locks and bridges were easy to operate and all added to the enjoyment. Canal trust volunteers at the lock in Bradford on Avon were helpful and informative. We travelled from late Monday afternoon and arrived back early morning Friday, in which time we comfortably made it to Bath, stopping many time to see the sites and even a shopping excursion of Bath (for the ladies).

Foxglacier 8th - 15th May 2015
We had a superb week on Foxglacier. Was a bit apprehensive about steering her but after the instruction and a few miles she was a delight to handle. We went to Bath and back at a very leisurely pace and had a great time, the dog also loved it after the first couple of days. Found plenty of nice places to tie up for the night with good access. Well kitted out boat everything worked well. Very comfortable had to put heating on one night this warmed up very quickly.
Would love to do again
Mr M Blakeman

Foxhunter 11th - 15th May 2015
Many thanks to the folks at Foxhangers for the wonderful vacation!
We have vacationed many places and venues but the experience on the canal barge was truly unique and enjoyable. It gives everyone a chance to participate in navigating the canals, opening locks and swing bridges on a very well appointed barge while setting your own schedule.
It was our first time and although a bit nervous negotiating a 69 foot barge through traffic and locks we soon became very comfortable and confident - especially with all the folks who offered to help along the way.

Absolutely fantastic weekend.  We spent the weekend on Foxtrot which was very well kitted out & reliable.  My brother and I plus two friends (all experienced canal boaters) left Foxhangers on a Friday evening and had a very enjoyable cruise up to the Aqueduct just beyond Bradford-On-Avon (including a night out in Bath via Rail), The boat was fantastic and Foxhangers were brilliant, we couldn't have asked for more.  My brother enjoyed a final night fishing near the Devizes Camping and Caravanning club and the Stout is interesting at The Three Magpies pub :-)
A+++ We'll definitely book again.

Arctic Fox 18-25 April 2015
This was our first canal boat holiday. After an hour of excellent tuition on the working of the boat and lock operation we were ready to go. We set off up the Caen hill flight with no problems and spent a wonderful week cruising to Little Bedwyn and back. The boat was warm and comfortable with everything we needed on board. We found some lovely quiet spots to moor up for the night and some great canal side pubs with excellent food. Hope to return to go to Bath next time. Thanks to all at Foxhangers.

Thanks to everyone at Foxhangers for an all round excellent service last week whilst we hired Lazy Fox.
It was a great boat and great service and we had a lot of fun. hopefully our fancy dress themes were the talk of the canal last week and that the other boaters we assisted with locks and swing bridges (particularly up Caen hill) appreciated having some additional burly men around!
We look forward to the next one and in the meantime I've attached a few photos.

We had an excellent time with the Foxhangers narrow boats on the Kennet and Avon. This is an exceptional canal (we have cruised many), with lots of moorings and terrific pubs. We were lucky with the weather which helped.  The boat was in excellent condition. Lovely people at the canal yard and bottle of wine was a nice touch.

Foxglove 7th to 10th April 2015

We stayed on Foxglove for a short break during the Easter school holidays. For my daughter (6 years) and I it was our first narrowboat holiday. My husband had some previous experience.
I'd like to highly commend Foxhangers staff for making our holiday even more enjoyable. The experience of being on a narrowboat was fantastic in itself but then really enhanced by your staff. Notably the customer service received from Sharon and comprehensive handover received from Mike.

We had a fantastic Easter weekend aboard Fox Talbot - four days slowly chugging up to Bath and back again. I had canal boated once before many years ago and it soon came back after the tuition session. I really cannot recommend this holiday enough - we travelled with our 3 young children (10, 8 and 4) and had one of the best weekends ever. Thanks very much Foxhangers I think you'll be seeing us again.

As usual the boat we stayed on Cunning Fox, was as excellent as ever, staff very friendly and very helpful especially when some of the bedding accidently got wet when the front doors opened. At the next stopping place, clean, dry bedding waiting for us and the wet bedding collected, excellent service.  Thank you.  Now if only you could arrange the weather!!!!
Kind regards

It was fantastic, but exhausting.

Arctic Fox 25th October 2014

We had a wonderful break on Arctic Fox during the Autumn half term.  Just enough time to cruise down the very beautiful Kennet and Avon (our new favourite canal!) exploring the swing bridges and aqueducts along the way and arriving for an overnight in Bath and explored the city during the day (moorings right by the station).
The boat was extremely comfortable for two adults, a teenager, two children and a puppy.  All the systems were simple and worked like a dream and the boat is very well equipped with everything we needed.  The canal was quiet and moorings were plentiful.  The scenery is amazing and the combination of woodlands and open countryside as well as time in a fascinating city made this the best canal break we have enjoyed.  Very relaxing, with enough exercise to ward off the Bath buns!  Next time we will be attempting the Caen Hill flight!

Urban Fox 20th September 2014

We hired the Urban Fox for a week from 20th September and were blessed with really good weather.  This was our first foray on a canal boat and we received excellent instruction from Richard before we were let loose!
All the staff were brilliant from start to finish, being professional and very friendly.
We encountered no operational problems and the barge was very well equipped with all you would need.  It was very clean and we found the beds exceptionally comfy.  Showers are small, to be expected, but we were surprised at how good the pressure was and plenty of hot water.  A nice surprise in the fridge - wine and chocolates!
We would thoroughly recommend Foxhangers!

Foxhunter September 2014

Once again many thanks for another enjoyable time on the K&A Canal, with Foxhangers.
What can I say, all Staff were absolutely kind to us, booking was simple, Foxhunter was just as expected and more and we managed to stop at a different pub every night!
Even managed to supply us with good weather, what more could we ask.
Will have no hesitation in booking with you again and will definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone who asks.

Foxcub 13 - 20 September 2014
We had a brilliant time on the Kennet and Avon - we very quickly got the hang of navigating, and the training provided was really useful.  People we met on the canal were really helpful and friendly and Foxcub was exceptionally clean and the facilities were great.  The boat was surprisingly spacious and we very quickly made her feel like home!  In one week we managed to make it to Froxfield in Berkshire and back to Seend Cleeve for dinner on Friday night before returning the boat on Saturday morning.  We would definitely book with Foxhangers again if we return to the K&A. Many thanks for a brilliant holiday!

Foxtail September 2014

The whole experience from start to finish was brilliant.
The staff were very helpful indeed and made us feel very welcome.
All was explained in just the right manner with regard to safety.
Foxtail was handed over to us and it was spotlessly clean and tidy.
The trip along the Canal is something my Grand children and I will always remember as it was a lovely way to see nature and the countryside.
Without question we will be back again next year.
Keep doing such a good job!

Wow
Incredible break yet again from all the staff at Foxhangers, not going to name individually but they know who they are. Also the gang behind the scenes, getting boats refuelled, cleaned and ready to go again in a tight timeframe. We had a great time making our way down to Bath, a great City, which we all enjoy visiting this time by water.
Thanks again everyone at Foxhangers, keep up the great work you do

We had an absolutely lovely time. The barge was clean, cosy and well equipped. We were well informed about life
on board and recommendations about routes and pubs was very welcome. We would recommend this to anyone
looking for a fun holiday.

Foxcub 26 July - 2 August 2014
My holiday on Foxhanger's little boat, Foxcub, was memorable for numerous reasons but especially seeing a
Kingfisher close up; herons, unafraid of approaching boats and the delight of moving through beautiful countryside
and arriving in places of interest such as, Dundas, Bath and Bristol.
The Narrow boat was well equipped and comfortable allowing me to feel I had enjoyed a really relaxing but active
holiday.

Urban Fox 7 - 14 July 2014
My family of 7 took a week cruising the Kennet & Avon Canal. This was my fifth venture into the canals and we were
lucky to choose a week of fantastic weather. We were so glad we selected a Foxhangers canal boat: mechanically
it performed exceptionally well and there were absolutely no operational problems throughout the whole week; the
boat was clean and very well fitted with all the equipment we could need and every item functioned properly. The
beds were comfortable; the lounge was a good size and the bathing facilities as good as they can get on a canal
boat.
I have absolutely no reservations in recommending Foxhangers to the 'beginner' or the experienced.
With thanks for making our holiday one to remember for all the right reasons,

This was the first time we ever tried a narrowboat holiday and our experience means we will definitely be doing it

Foxhangers were excellent in every respect - friendly, very helpful and the boat, Foxtail, was extremely well
equipped with everything on board that you could need.
The whole experience was great from start to finish.

We were very pleased with our accommodation; the boat was in excellent condition and had every convenience
you could imagine.  We spent two nights in Bath and 2 nights in Bradford-on-Avon, both were wonderful
experiences we will never forget.
We would like to especially thank Richard for his detailed instructions on the operation of the boat, locks and
bridges.  We can’t thank you enough for providing us with a holiday we will never forget.  We would highly
recommend Foxhangers to anyone wanting to rent a narrowboat on the Kennet and Avon.

Amazing holiday we "rushed" all the way to Bath and back again! The boat was brilliant plenty of room for 6 adults,
and as each couple had their own room no arguments. The staff were fantastic, as we had never been on a canal
boat before they filled us with confidence as we set off. Customer service from booking to returning the boat was 5
*+. Trying to organise the (adult) kids to go again !

Four of us spent a week on one of Foxhangers barges. We were all totally satisfied with the experience. We found
the staff at the beginning of the holiday helpful and accommodating.
We loved the small touches of a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates waiting for us a lovely touch. The barge itself
was very much to our satisfaction. Plenty of room for us all. The barge was lovely and clean and well appointed. All
in all it made for a very pleasant vacation.
We will all recommend Foxhangers to other people.

The staff at Foxhangers are friendly and helpful, we couldn’t have asked for better customer service. The boats
were clean, tidy and well presented with everything you could need on board and more. The hand over of the boats
to us at the start of our holiday left everyone in our party feeling confident that they could operate locks, bridges and
the boats well. Added to that the fact that Foxhangers is located on a truly beautiful stretch of canal we had a really
relaxing, interesting and comfortable family holiday which we hope to repeat some day!

Many thanks to the entire Foxhangers team for facilitating a wonderful holiday.
All of the staff we dealt with were friendly and very helpful, especially when we had to change the booking for a
larger boat, when more people joined the party.
The handover process was thorough without being too intense.  For a crew of novice boaters it was pitched just
right - employed particularly appreciated the request to try to return the boat with the green side uppermost :-)
I cannot fault the boat at all. It was thoroughly clean and well maintained - everything worked exactly as it should -
with comprehensive information provided on board covering pretty much every aspect of both the boat and canal.
Little extra touches like the local shop delivering groceries to the boat prior to our arrival, and the little 'welcome on
board' gift were really appreciated.
It has been a  real struggle adapting back to the pressures of work after such an enjoyable and peaceful week
conducted at walking-pace.

our needs and was comfortable and well equipped. The pre start instructions were well presented and clear. The

We would recommend Foxhangers boats and the Kennet and Avon canal.

Seven of us hired Cunning Fox, the boat was well laid out, very clean and tidy, and best of all, the people at
Foxhangers were really helpful and friendly. We were all first time narrow boaters, and the staff explained  all the
workings of the boat to us, and how to use the locks. We would definitely use Foxhangers again, but probably head
East the next time, up the Caen Hill flight. Thanks for a great holiday

Foxglacier 23rd to 29th June 2014
Upon arriving at the marina I wondered if I had made a mistake getting a boat that long, but no, it handled really
well.  I really enjoyed the boat handling, getting a few tons of boat to go exactly where you want is not as hard as I
first thought, you just have to think a little ahead.
The onboard equipment was spot on, the beds were comfortable and having two bathrooms made for a good
holiday.  We made use of the canalside pubs, which all turned out to very nice.  Having only three days effectively,
we couldn't go that far, but it was far enough to get the flavour of using the locks and enjoying the K & A canal.  We
didn't want to flog ourselves moving the whole time, so we made sure we enjoyed our surroundings.
As to 'Foxhangers', the people were just what you want, friendly!  Kevin gave us the handover chat and I thought he
did it well.  They were there when we arrived back and talked us back into the berth, painless!  The only thing
'Foxhangers' can take no credit for, the weather.....it was perfect, a classic British sunny June.  It didn't last, on the
way home it tipped it down.
I'm glad I chose 'Foxhangers', pre-holiday info, communications and product were spot on!

We had a lovely relaxing cruise down to Bath and back stopping and the historic and picturesque village of Bradford on Avon for the evening. Our forth canal holiday and one of the best. The boat was extremely well equipped the staff were knowledgeable and informative but yet non pushy or condescending to our previous experience. All in all a fantastic time had by us all and a well deserved break to unwind at the slower pace of life and watch the world go by!
Thank you all and keep up the good work. All the best from the 2014 season,

I just wanted to thank you on behalf of my family for such a wonderful boating experience.

Unfortunately we arrived too late for a full handover but the chap was kind enough to come back first thing Tuesday morning to help us on our way. The boat had everything we could have wished for and the chocolates and wine waiting for us in the fridge were a lovely surprise.

We made our way to Bath in a day and a half and were in awe of the beautiful country side and its abundance of wildlife we saw along the way. After a few hours we started making our way back stopping off at many points along the way. We even had time to take in a pub quiz on our last night!

We will definitely be coming back for more next year.

Foxtalbot 30 June - 4 July 2014
The holiday we had (4 adults - first time on a narrow boat) on the Kennet and Avon canal can only be described as excellent.
The FoxTalbot was comprehensively equipped to an extremely high standard with everything we required for 2 couples. The introduction we received on arrival covering the boats operation, location of equipment, safety and how to operate the locks and swing bridge was faultless.
We travelled from Foxhangers to Bath winding hole and return back to Foxhangers comfortably in 4 days, stopping to take in the scenery on route and eating out each evening in local hostelries.
This can only be described as one of the most relaxing short breaks we have had. The staff and boat from Foxhangers being the catalyst to making it possible. I have no hesitation in highly recommending a break of this type to any one and using a boat from Foxhangers.
Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Foxhunter 30 June 2014

We spent Monday to Friday of last Week July 2014 onboard Foxhunter and travelled from Foxhanger Wharf to Bath. We had the most amazing time ever and we will definitely be coming back. We were fortunate enough to have amazing weather and the week was so relaxing. We will definitely be coming back and doing this again, the facilities onboard the boat were fantastic and I would recommend this to anyone thinking of doing a canal holiday.

Tibetan Fox 16-19 June 2014

Dear Foxhangers,
I hired the Tibetan Fox in mid June 2014. My only regret was that I had only hired it for 5 days. It wasn't enough. The experience was a delight from start to end. From motoring gently through beautiful countryside to the freedom of just pulling up at the side of the canal for a wander through little villages or a visit to a canal side pub for a lovely dinner, it was all so relaxing and enjoyable. Even the locks and swing bridges were fun. The boat was beautifully turned out, the interior all lovely timber, with all the mod cons one could hope for. The people at Foxhangers were very helpful and friendly. I'm from Australia so had to organise the whole thing long distance and it was a breeze.
I also used the service provided through the local village shop to have groceries on board when I arrived. This was better than I ever expected and I would definitely recommend it. We only ordered enough to get us through the first couple of days, but next time I will order everything I need for the whole time. The food they provided was fresh, plentiful and was all on board when we arrived, and I didn't even have to pay until the end of the trip.
Overall I would absolutely recommend a canal boat holiday through Foxhangers to anyone. It was a highlight of my trip to England.
Warm Regards
Mark

Urban Fox August 2013
We had a really lovely time and we particularly liked the new boat and its design:

• Kitchen facilities
• Media suite
• Brilliant number of mirrors and full length mirrors
• Kitchen design
• Water gauge

Arctic Fox, August 2013
We took Arctic Fox from Foxhangers wharf on the 10th August. Richard gave me a good induction to the systems and operation of the boat, he then instructed our 2 young kids (7 & 8) about how to behave around the boat, the canal banks and the locks. We all went through 1 lock together and thenTania the kids and I were on our own. We headed East to the amazing Caen Hill Flight. The engineering on the canals always enthralls me and the easy way of life (at 3mph) makes a canal holiday the "fastest way to wind down" All the Bargies that we met were friendly and helpful, with the time to stop and talk.

Previously we had rented boats from other operators, we learned the hard way that we wanted a boat that had been inspected and rated by "Visit England" where the owner/operators had a standard to maintain and we as renters would have some recourse if the standards were low. What attracted us to Foxhangers was the high star ratings of the boats which they operate. Arctic Fox was lovely and clean and very well appointed throughout, the kitchen appliances and utensils were well placed and appropriate for our needs. The number of lights and 240volt sockets are great, there is always one where you need it to be.

We travelled all the way to Reading and then turned the boat around and went back to Foxhangers. On day 14 we kept the boat to the last possible moment before we took it back to the wharf, we were very sad to hand it back.

We had a great time and have no hesitation to recommend the Arctic Fox and the Foxhangers team if you are considering a canal holiday. We will most certainly be back. Best regards,
Mark, Tania, Dean and Summer

Foxtalbot August 2013
My wife and I, together with our daughter, her husband and two children, recently enjoyed a superb 5-day/4-night holiday in the largest of Foxhangers' canal boats called "Fox Talbot". None of us could think of anything to grumble about, or any suggestions to make for improvement to our holiday. The company was welcoming, they took proper care to ensure we knew and understood what we were undertaking, and they supplied everything necessary to make our holiday more than a bit special. The boat was in superb condition and beautifully fitted out. Overall we could not fault Foxhangers or their boat in any way.
A huge "thank you" to all who made our holiday so enjoyable. We can strongly recommend the company, its services and its craft to anyone considering a holiday on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Fennec Fox July 2013
To all at Foxhangers,
A big thank you to Foxhangers. My wife and I have enjoyed a fab two weeks holiday aboard the Fennec Fox from the 6th to 20th July 2013. We have never been on a canal or narrow boat holiday before. Our holiday was magic, the weather was hot and sunny, the people we met were friendly and helpful, especially the volunteers from the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust guided us up and down the Caen Locks with muscle and knowledge.
The Fennec Fox was well fitted out, with all the mod cons, as well as being attractively finished with wood panelled interior, making it attractive and functional. This was confirmed by other renters from different companies, that we met when sharing locks and looking in other peoples boats as you do!! So we enjoyed value for money as well as a great boat.
We thoroughly recommend a canal holiday on a Foxhangers Narrow Boat. We travelled East to Hungerford and then back west to Bath, before returning to Foxhangers wharf. A couple of the magic bits: Lock 44 at dawn, we called it the infinity lock, because of the view. The section between Bradford on Avon and Bath, which because of the aqueducts has no locks and follows the contours of the valley is both beautiful and surreal in that you are piloting a boat that is halfway up a hill, and you can see the river Avon below. The inspired creativity that built this some two hundred years ago, puts the modern developments to shame. Bucket List Stuff !!
Yours sincerely,
David Somers

We had the most magical time on Fox Terrier. The boat was much easier to control than expected the facilities were great and beds comfortable. Your staff were very informative and helpful and would definitely come again.

4 night break July 8 2013 Tibetan Fox
Just returned from what can be described as best boating holiday yet
On arrival at yard we were greeted with a warm welcome and was able to load the boat straight away. The boat Tibetan Fox is a virtually brand new boat, we have had many boats but the layout and design of Tibetan was the tops, roomy comfortable and so much storage we did not know what to do with, this is how narrow boats should be built
The boat was so easy to drive which went to making it such a memorable holiday.
Will be back again and definitely be using Foxhangers

I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our Foxhanger holiday.
The locks and bridges were harder work than I had expected, but I

enjoyed it so much that this morning, we bought our own boat, which we
plan to make our permanent home!
Once again, thank you.

Snooty Fox, 2013
I recently spent the summer half term on the Snooty Fox with my three children (15/13/12) travelling west towards Bristol. This was our first ever venture on a canal boat and it was an inspired choice. Foxhangers made the whole process from booking to hand over as easy and stress free as one could get which made the rest of the holiday very easy. My children really enjoyed the challenge of piloting the boat and negotiating the locks and were in complete control after only a few days. The boat itself was in very good order, well stocked and very comfortable so we never felt as if we were roughing it. There were plenty of good memories to take away from this holiday and I would definitely use Foxhangers again.

On our return home we commented the bed had been the most comfortable she had slept in on any of the narrowboat holidays we have taken over the past 30 years.
We were surprised at the speed at which we negotiated the 16 lock flight. Just over 2hours on the ascent, and, with the help of 2 CRT volunteers, under 2 hours on the descent!
We might see you next year - weather permitting!

We two couples from Germany thoroughly enjoyed the (freezing) week before Easter on this well-heated, well-equipped and perfectly serviced boat. Despite the size it was easy to manoeuvre and it was so much fun and very relaxing to cruise down to Bath and back at a leisurely speed with many nice stops along the way, including the finest canalside pubs you could wish for.
The company and the staff at Foxhangers deserve an extra thank you for their friendliness and efficiency. Everybody was eager to help make our holiday a success. We keep boasting to our friends of this wonderful experience and will certainly recommend Foxhangers any time.

Foxglove April 2013
We had a fantastic weekend on Foxglove.
Had great tuition before taking Foxglove solo, we got as far as Semington, which was not far, but it was our first time on the canals, so great experience opening/closing locks and swing bridges.
So well done Foxhangers for a great time on Foxglove and lovely surprise when I opened the fridge and found wine and choc's on board.... a lovely gesture.
Also I was daft enough to leave something behind on the boat, and Catherine was kind enough to send it back for me.
We would not hesitate in recommending Foxhangers for a fantastic break on the canal.....Great service.
Thank you.

The boat was in extremely good condition, well fitted out and very roomy for four of us. Everything you could need was provided.
We would happily recommend Foxhangers to anyone wanting to explore the K&A - they were very competitively priced!

Foxglacier April 2013
We hired Fox Glacier for a week - start date Monday 15th. April.
We liked the boat very much. It is clean, comfortable and very well equipped.
The welcome on arrival was friendly and helpful and it was nice to be greeted when we returned to the boatyard.
We would certainly like to book with you again. This time we took a leisurely trip to Bath. Perhaps in the Autumn we will hire a boat for a fortnight and tackle the flight in the other direction.
Many thanks.

Foxglacier April 2013
Thanks for refunding our damage deposit so efficiently.
We had an excellent four night break on Foxglacier. We were most impressed with the standard of the boat and the attention to detail in the furnishing and on-board equipment.
The hand-over from your staff was delivered with just the right mix of ease and professionalism and at a level which took into account our previous canal experience. It also gave us the confidence to handle the double locks which we encountered for the first time.
The Kennet and Avon is a delightful and varied waterway with some excellent pubs and eating places along it. We would thoroughly recommend both it and your company.

Foxtalbot August 2012
We set out on Fox Talbot on 6th August with some trepidation as novices and with four teenagers on board! Foxhangers had been highly recommended to us and the boat met all of our expectations. We received a detailed, informative and entertaining briefing before setting off towards Bath. Having negotiated the first swing bridge and then lock we grew in confidence and settled into a wonderfully recuperative week afloat on the Kennet and Avon canal. Our initial worries about planning where to stop proved unfounded as the onboard info was very useful and reliable, the recommended pubs proving to be excellent for both food and ales. A fantastic holiday in no small part due to the professionalism of Foxhangers. We will definitely return.

Foxhunter April 22nd 2013
Six cousins and two lucky husbands (all of a certain age and more!) took Fox Hunter for three days on 22 April and we want to tell you that we had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect and, although we did not go very far, every mile was lovely. Your service was exemplary and the boat facilities excellent. Just wish we had thought in time to have Tshirts made!
Many thanks from all of us

Foxterrier May 2013
We had a wonderful time and the boat was excellent - one of the best we have ever hired. Thanks again & Regards

Foxterrier March 2013
To all the staff at Foxhangers, a big thankyou. We hired Foxterrier for a short break from the 11th March 2013. Before our holiday commenced we were very impressed with all the information you sent us through the post - especially the map of the canal which was a welcomed touch. Any questions we may have had were answered in this pack. All Foxhanger people we met were very welcoming and friendly. We were all extremely delighted with how well appointed and equipped the boat was (as is no doubt all of your fleet). Despite the obvious contraints of being on a narrowboat, we did find it to be reasonably spacious - even the two toilet/shower facilities. Obviously a lot of thought had gone into the interior design to get the absolute most out of the space available. Everything was so clean and ready to use and the beds were very comfortable. Although the weather was quite cold during our trip, we were pleased to wake up in the mornings to piping hot water for washing/showers etc. It was truly the best boat we've ever hired over the 15 years we've been boating. Naturally we would be very pleased to return for a longer holiday next time. If I had to say anything negative, it would only be to provide provision to stand a cup of tea/coffee somewhere whilst relaxing in bed - hardly worth a mention. Genuinely we thought it was good value for money for exceptionally comfortable accommodation. We've already recommended you to our work coleagues and friends.
Best wishes,
Colin W - Torquay

Fennec Fox October 2012
Party of 3 adults & 2 large dogs. Duration 1 week which leisurely took us to Bath and back (with a full day to spend in Bath). Weather - typically British; wet one day, dry and mild the next. We are experienced at narrowboating but this was our first time on the Kennet & Avon and of Foxhangers. The Kennet & Avon is a pretty canal, well served with waterside (or very near) pubs, serving very good food. The locks and swing bridges are fairly easy to use but only if you’re fit and some could do with better maintenance. Getting water was a bit of a task as our end of the hose didn’t fit some of the taps. (Can the Water Suppliers not standardise this?) Our boat, The Fennec Fox could not be faulted - very clean, extremely well stocked (we particularly appreciated the wet-weather clothing supplied) and the layout was the best that we have ever experienced. I was very impressed with the ease with which the salon seats converted to a double bed without having to utilise or haul the table around. We found the on-board information folder very useful and, although we were warned that we may not receive a good TV signal in places, the supplied aerial booster did its job well and we experienced no problems. All the staff were very professional, courteous and friendly. We would recommend Foxhangers and we hope to return.

Foxhunter April 2012
We found the Foxhangers staff very friendly and helpful. In fact another reason for choosing Foxhangers was the helpful advice we received on the phone before we even booked our holiday. Foxhunter was a lovely boat and was very well equipped. It was really useful to have a list of equipment sent to us in advance, so that we knew what to take with us. We liked the layout of the boat; it was great to be able to keep the table up in the seating area and still be able to get past easily. The weather was quite cold - there was a sharp frost a couple of nights - but the boat was nice and warm. The small bath was a real advantage for the younger children. We liked the fact that the fuel was included in the original cost of the holiday. We would like to come back in the future and go west towards Bath.

Thank you for your letter of 7th April and the refund of our Damage deposit. This was our first holiday with your Company and it was a great success. Fox Glacier was clean and very well equipped and we were impressed with the handover by one of your colleagues at the beginning of our trip. Thank you all for making it a memorable week on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Flying Fox 24 - 31 March 2012
The boat didn't feel like a hire boat at all, unlike some we have experienced in the past. It has to be the best boat we have hired to date and I am sure we will return to you in the near future. Thank you all for a very professional and pleasant experience. We sincerely hope to see you again soon.

Foxglacier 23/03/12
We had an excellent weekend and were spoilt with the weather - all you pre trip organisation and briefings were first rate - Catherine was great - really helpful and all our party were impressed - along with the quality of the boats - looking forward to the next time !

Foxterrier October 2012
We booked the Foxterrier for a weekend in October 2012 for a (surprise) 60th birthday break, a 69 foot, 6-9 berth boat, which we all took a turn to drive. It was our first experience of this type of holiday. The boat layout was perfect for the three couples in our party, two shower rooms, two double bedrooms and one bunk room, although we used the convertible double bed in the saloon instead of the bunks. The boat was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable, the heating system was really efficient and there was plenty of hot water for the showers (you do have to refill the tank along the way). The handover/instruction from Dave was excellent. We were so lucky with the weather and everyone we passed along the canal were very friendly and, of course, we visited several very nice pubs along the way. If you love photography, you'll love the many opportunities to capture the wild life and the changing scenery, I was chuffed to bits to see and photograph a kingfisher. We would definitely book with Foxhangers again, all the staff involved were extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you Foxhangers for a truly memorable weekend.

Foxterrier September 2012

I booked this boat as a surprise holiday for my husbands 50th birthday, the office staff were excellent at helping to keep the surprise. The boat was as always clean and well laid out. There were 6 adults and 2 dogs in our crew and we had plenty of space on board. The weather was typical for this year, rain and showers but it didn't spoil the holiday. The Foxhangers crew were very helpful and even delivered us a replacement windlass (we lost one at the bottom of lock 68) before we came back down the Caen Flight. We have used Foxhangers before which was the reason for choosing them this time, I knew we would get a great boat and great service, which we did. The surprise was kept until my husband arrived at the boat, he was absolutely thrilled and we had a great week with our sons. Thank you to all at Foxhangers.

Tibetan Fox September 2012
Having hired canal boats over the past five years we found Foxhangers the most professional company we have dealt with. Our boat was presented in a top class condition with some great touches. Nice to be able to listen to the radio while piloting the boat due to radio cd player being fitted in the rear of the boat as well as at the front. The inside of the boat has been finished in a first class condition. All the staff we came in contact with were only to pleased to be helpful. Our trip to Bath and back was a delight with a variety of pubs to visit on the way. We looking forward to returning to Foxhangers for another adventure.
Thank you all, R A

After our recent trip on the Flying Fox we felt that the service was excellent and friendly and that the boat was the best we’d come across in layout and fittings. Thank you Foxhangers.

Foxtrot September 2012
Thanks to Foxhanger boats, we had a wonderful four days on Foxtrot, in glorious summer-like September weather (weren't we lucky?!). Your staff were so courteous and helpful, both on our departure and also when we arrived back, and the boat itself was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and ran smoothly, without any problems. We have already unreservedly recommended you to one of our friends and will do so to others. We, too, will also hope to come back for another visit. Best wishes,

Foxglacier August 2012
Thanks to the Foxhanger crew for the welcome and the initial training. We left the dock fully confident that we would enjoy our week on the canal. The journey to Bath was fantastic and nothing would match the final stage into Bath. One slight malfunction with the lights was fixed quickly, and on a Sunday too! Would recommend this company to anyone thinking of going on the canals. Thanks again!

Foxcub August 2012
Thank you for such a lovely holiday on Foxcub August 13th-17th 2012. We had such a great time - everyone on the canal was so friendly and ready to help, and Foxcub was wonderful - only little but containing everything we needed. I think the fox on the tiller also liked the addition of a rather fetching red feather boa that we created for him for the trip. Thank you for an excellent briefing before we left off as well, which we definitely required!

Foxtalbot July 2012
To all at Foxhangers, I felt I must send you a quick email to let you know how much we enjoyed our holiday with you last week. This is the second time we have hired one of your boats and have been impressed both times with the quality of them and especially how well equipped they are. We have holidayed with different people each time, and everyone has been extremely pleased with the boats. We hired the Foxtalbot this time from Monday to Thursday and managed to get into Bath and back. We all lead busy lifestyles and it's the perfect way to unwind. We saw some wonderful wildlife - good to see so many kingfishers. Thank you for providing us with such a high quality vessel. I'm sure we will be back in the future- maybe even tackle the Caen Locks!! We have already recommended you to a group of friends, who are really keen to sample this kind of holiday. The lady on the end of the phone was very helpful, as we were a last minute booking and needed to do things in a rush. Thanks again!

Foxglacier July 2012
Hi all at Foxhangers, I feel strongly compelled to let you know what a great time we had on Fox Glacier. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all 6 of us and such a civilised way to spend a weekend! I thought the set-up at Foxhangers was excellent and really efficiently run - I have always been able to get hold of someone on the phone who has been knowledgeable and helpful. Top marks for quality of service. I am out with you again in September and will be recommending the experience to many of my friends and family.
Kind regards, Ed Taylor

Foxterrier July 2012
We had the best time on the 9 berth Foxterrier on a long weekend break in July.It rained almost continuously but it didn't matter in the slightest. All 4 kids had something to do running up and down the Caen Hill Locks, opening and closing gates, letting down paddles and generally having a ball. Thank goodness for the wet-weather gear included on the boat! The canal boat had excellent facilities, it was so warm and toasty when we finally settled in for the evening and put the heating on. There was plenty of room for all of us and the hot showers were great!! All the staff, from the office to the wharf at Foxhangers are brilliant. So friendly, helpful and really quite laid back considering the size of the boats we were expected to handle!! I would absolutely recommend hiring a canal boat from Foxhangers. We're hooked and will definitely come back for a longer stint on the Kennet and Avon canal. Big thanks to everyone involved in the making of this experience which is now fantastic childhood memory!

Flying Fox July 2012
Where to start! We had an absolutely amazing week on the Flying Fox from 30th June 2012, and I wish we were back there. Our crew consisted of myself, my husband (skipper) and our two Weimeraner dogs who helped me navigate! The boat herself was very impressive in terms of interior decor and very importantly cleanliness. It was impeccable and I was delighted we chose Foxhangers. Upon arrival, the handover from Dave on pick up was absolutely spot on, and as a complete novice myself, I was so thankful that he patiently showed me the mechanisms of the locks as we got underway! Despite probably the worst “summer” in British history we had an absolute ball ! The boat was so well “kitted out” we wanted for nothing. The complimentary bottle of vino chilling in the fridge and the box of chocolates was the icing on the cake and a very nice touch. Although my husband has done a boating holiday in the past, it was my first time. Well done Foxhangers - we will be back ! I would without hesitation highly recommend Foxhangers to anyone looking to embark on a canal break/holiday.

Foxterrier June 2012
We had a fantastic mid week break aboard Foxterrier in mid June. The boat was first class throughout and the service and briefing from the staff was excellent. We had no problems whatsoever with the boat during the trip, everything that was needed was on board and we had all the information for our trip along the canal. Foxterrier is a 6-9 berth with 2 bathrooms and a well fitted Galley and Lounge area, very comfortable and large enough for large groups or families. Excellent value, excellent holiday and an excellent company, will use again.
Mr P Davey

Foxtrot June 2012
Three generations of one family plus dog, all had a ball on FOXTROT. Hope to do it again, perhaps on your latest boat. At no point were we more than 14 miles from our home. We enjoyed our locality to home so much.

Foxcub June 2012
We were so impressed with Foxhangers from the minute we booked. Receiving such a comprehensive pack in the post prior to our holiday we knew the company was one we could trust. And with the convenience of being able to book groceries for our arrival, which were great, just added to the great service. They have thought of everything and our boat Foxcub was lovely and was equipped with everything you could possibly need. Thank you for a great holiday.
The Jackson Family

June 2012
We enjoyed our third holiday with Foxhangers in early June 2012. Although the weather was less than kind to us, everyone on board (inc my Grandchildren of 27 and 10) had a great time. The boat was, as usual, in first class condition, well presented and equipped. The staff were so very helpful and we will certainly book again. We would recommend Foxhangers to our friends and anyone looking for a canal boat holiday. Additionally the Kennet and Avon is a wonderful canal, full of great views, lots of wildlife, especially the Herons, and is well maintained and served by excellent eating houses along the way. Best wishes for the future and to all who may hire from Foxhangers.

Cunning Fox June 2012
We had a brilliant week on the Cunning Fox (2nd June 2012). The layout was perfect for our needs. A really good boat with loads of storage, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The shampoo in the shower rooms, the chocolate and wine in the fridge were all lovely touches, and I loved the hot water bottles - the first time on a boat in the last 13 or so years that hot water bottles have been supplied. We didn't actually need them as we had a really hot week but normally we "do" the canals at the end of October when they will come in useful when, as we will, return to "Foxhangers". Many thanks to you and your very cheerful staff.

Foxglacier May 2012
We booked ‘Foxglacier’ for a weekend break in mid-May between six friends, and were impressed by Foxhangers’ staff, who were welcoming, helpful, organised and informative. The boat itself was clean, comfortable and very well equipped with plenty of storage space. We achieved our goal of climbing the Caen Hill (seemingly endless) staircase of locks on the first afternoon/evening. After that it was all plain sailing! Foxhangers were happy to provide us with extra lifejackets for some family friends with young children who came to visit us for a bbq during the trip. After so much rain in the preceding weeks, we were lucky to enjoy warm sunshine every day - with just a light shower on our final, homeward stretch on the Monday morning. It was a brilliant few days and we would love to return to this beautiful area, hopefully for a week’s hire next time, when we’d like to head west towards Bath.

Foxtrot May 2012
I must tell you what a lovely few days we had on Foxtrot. The weather helped enormously of course but everything was excellent. Foxtrot was very comfortable, well equipped (especially in the catering department), relatively easy to handle (being beginners) and we all were very happy with our surroundings. We would very much like to holiday with you again so we’ll keep in touch.

Foxtail April 2012
We had Foxtail, anyway 5berth and a really tidy boat that handled really well. Very well equipped, superb tele and radio reception and comfortable beds and bedding. Generally very well laid out making the best use of space and obviously not skimping on any of the gear. The training was very professional and relaxed which inspired confidence. We had a great time. Thank you Foxhangers!

Foxtrot 21/10/12 Weekend Break
Having hired canal boats through a variety of companies of the years I can honestly say Foxhangers have been the best I encountered so far. Great service, friendly staff, a genuine and thoughtful induction, boat in good order and excellent attention to detail with regard to what was provided on board. Sometimes its the little things that make a big difference, and the galley was immaculately equipped (even a cafetiere), tea towels, cleaning products meaning less for us to fetch and carry. The seating and beds were comfortable and clean, free from that musty damp smell you can find on some boats, duvets and covers clean warm nicely laundered. Deposit returned swiftly and efficiently. I have no hesitation in recommending Foxhangers and I will certainly use them again.

Foxtrot ~ October 2011
This was our first introduction to narrowboating on the K&A and leaving it until almost November we knew that the weather could be unreliable. However, Foxtrot was beautifully maintained and warm and cosy in the evenings. The collection of the boat and briefing by the team at Foxhangers was clear, comprehensive but also cheerful. We had a great time and we will definitely be coming again...perhaps even go east next time!
Stephen Dunhill

Cunning Fox ~ October 2011
Just to say how much we enjoyed our first ever canal boat hire on the Cunning Fox this October 2011, it was brilliant. All 4 of us will do it again sometime. Everything was organised by Foxhangers to perfection. Keep up the good work.

Fox Talbot ~ October 2011
Just a quick note to say thank you for the great short break holiday we had with you recently, the narrow boat FOXTALBOT fitted our needs perfectly ( Two mature couples) the boat was immaculately presented, warm and comfortable beds, two toilet showers rooms, we had comprehensive instructions on the workings of the boat from Neil, and the same for working the locks. Also the help we had dealing with a problem with our car. To anyone thinking of hiring a narrow boat on the Kennet & Avon canal head for Foxhangers and do it right! Many thanks again.

Fennec Fox 27th August to 3rd September 2011
The boat was spotlessly clean and fantastically well fitted-out. We had a very thorough briefing on arrival and the staff were friendly and informative. An incredibly enjoyable week aboard a fantastic boat in some of the most stunning countryside that the UK has to offer. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to friends and family.

CUNNING FOX August 20/27 2011
Lovely Craft, very clean with a well equipped kitchen to meet all our needs. With another Grandchild joining the party, and needing their own bedroom, we had to sleep in the Salon. We coped with that easily and it meant we had an extra cuppa in the mornings. At 69’ long, we found our ‘walkie-talkies’ very useful. The whole week was very relaxing and we are each looking forward to doing it all again. Mention must be made of ALL the Staff, from Front Office to Quayside. Everyone was extremely helpful and patient with us when giving full instruction. Just the right start to a brilliant week.
Anne & Alan Jackson Horsham, West Sussex.

Foxtrot - August 2011
We had a wonderful holiday on Foxtrot. The boat was lovely and clean and had everything we wanted. As we had never been on a narrowboat holiday before we had a full induction, which was very thorough and informative - the staff were very helpful. We were looking for a holiday that would suit 3 generations including children aged 14,12 and 9 - a narrowboat holiday certainly fulfilled this. The children loved it, helping with the locks and fishing in the evening. A very enjoyable holiday was had by all.
Jennifer Harvey

Foxhunter August 2011
Thank you very much for a wonderful week on the good ship foxhunter. The three generations of our family had a brilliant week aboard especially my twin eight year old girls who thoroughly enjoyed working the locks on our way to Bath. The highlight of the week for me was negotiating the Bath locks especially the Deep lock and turning the boat around up next to Bath weir under full gaze of sightseers. Although we ran aground our training from Chris was second to none and if we still didn't know what to do the local "canallers" would step right in to give us a gentle prod in the right direction. Bombing along at 2mph has never been so much fun. Again many thanks and we certainly look forward to seeing you again next year - roll on the Caen hill locks.
The Bartlett and Tustain family.

Foxcub August 2011
The 'relaxing pub crawl' we had envisaged turned out to be more of a 'challenging adventure' for 3 ladies already in possession of their bus passes who had never done this before. Nevertheless, we had a great time and were extremely well looked after not only by members of Foxhangers staff but also numerous Fairy Godfathers along the way. Would definitely do it again, though possibly with a man on board!

Foxterrier June 2011
We had a brilliant time on Foxterrier. As you know we had planned to be out on our shared ownership boat but at short notice we were unable to do so and we were pleased to find a boat at short notice and a good price. The experience was perfect from the moment we arrived at your base to the time we sadly drove away for home. Fox terrier was so well laid out and well equipped for our party of 5 and well located for a good trip including up and down Caen Hill ! Maybe we will be able to book again in the near future. Thank you again

Foxglove June 2011
A note of thanks for the refund of the damage waiver deposit. Our first time on a canalboat and we found the whole experience very good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the narrowboat well presented with everything we needed. We had a lovely weeks holiday and will be coming back. Many thanks.

Just a quick note to thank you very much my return of deposit with reference to our week on the ‘Flying Fox’ from21st - 28th May. Great Boat, great staff, everyone was so helpful, would definitely recommend and hopefully we will return. Weather could have been better but did not stop us from having a relaxing break. Once again, many thanks and kind regards,

My friends and I hired Foxhunter in May 2011, the second year we've been with foxhangers.

Dear Sirs. Thanks for Damage Deposit cheque. Excellent few days which we all enjoyed. We thought the Foxhanger staff were all very friendly, professional and competent and the boat in first class order. We would certainly do it again and by the way, would we get a discount for a return visit? Thanks again.

Foxtail 22nd April 2011
Just a quick note to say how much we all really enjoyed our Easter weekend on Foxtail! The boat was really well kitted out and very spacious for 4 and had everything we needed for a great trip. I think the glorious weather helped, but we had a fantastic time and would certainly recommend you to anybody who asked - I've already sent your web-link to a friend who also "has always wanted to try a narrowboat and never quite got round to it". Many thanks once again.

Foxtalbot 25th -28th March 2011
My wife and I have now hired narrowboats every year in early spring and have become hooked on the joys of canal boating. This year in late March we hired a lovely boat, Foxtalbot, together with three friends and headed west. We made it to Avoncliffe and back and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves along this rural stretch of canal. As 'seasoned hirers' we are quite fussy about the boats and Foxtalbot didn't disappoint. It was very comfortable with two (quite essential with five of us aboard) shower rooms. We all had a wonderful time and I would recommend the company, the boat and the lovely stretch of canal.

Foxglacier 25th - 28th March 2011
Just to say the Brooks & Voisey families & our dog Jake had a truly wonderful long weekend staying on the Fox Talbot, we were pleasantly surprised that this boat had everything onboard that we needed, kitchen although compact had a wealth of kitchen utensils and we wanted for nothing. The weather was great which helped a lot and the peace at this time of year ( March ) was fab and a welcome bonus. Definitely a trip to be remembered and repeated. Thanks to you and the helpful staff for making our trip safe and memorable.

“Just like to say we had an absolutely fabulous mid week break on your Foxglacier narrowboat. We have had a holiday before with you which is the reason why we returned to hire the larger Foxglacier. My sister and her husband accompanied us on this holiday - they had never been on a canal narrowboat holiday before. They loved it. My husband has been on several canal holidays before but this is my third time. We hope to hire one of your canalboats again.”

“Thank you - everything was really great, the boat was clean and it was a lovely "welcome touch" having a bottle of wine and a lovely box of chocolates ready waiting for us. Best wishes.

Once again a superb holiday. From arrival to departure we had quality service and a quality boat for our holiday. The areas along the canal are beautiful and the locals including those that live on the boats are so friendly and helpful. We are already looking forward to our 2011 holiday with you. If only we could have stayed longer. Many thanks,

Foxterrier 19th - 23rd July 2010
We were all complete novices to canal holidays and were a bit daunted by hiring one of the largest boats but the staff at Foxhangers were friendly and explained everything really well. Off we went on what turned into one of the best holidays I have ever had. With three generations of family on one boat there was something around every corner for everyone, picturesque countryside, wildlife, great pubs and plenty of interesting people to meet en route. The boat was well equipped and comfortable with plenty of room for all seven of us and a dog. I would definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone planning a canal holiday. Thanks,

We are home again and back into the usual routine. We want to thank everyone at Foxhangers for another great experience on the canals. Foxglacier handled like a dream - the best of any boat so far. Cheers

Fox Talbot May 2010
We have just completed a two week vacation aboard the FoxTalbot. Together with my wife and two friends we had two wonderful weeks on the Kennet & Avon which was greatly helped by the great service provided by all the staff at Foxhangers and the superior quality of their boat. The staff answered all our questions in advance of our vacation, provided a thorough briefing before we left and were very attentive when our voyage was shortened due to a problem closing the Caen Hill Locks. The boat was extremely clean and had everything aboard it that you could possibly want. We certainly recommend Foxhangers and have already got friends interested in hiring from them. Thank You everyone.

Foxhunter 18 - 21 June
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for an excellent experience on board Foxhunter. It was a shame that my aunt decided against joining us, but it may well have been the correct decision after all. Message just received from my 80 year old mother .............. Well, wasn't that a great weekend? Wonderful weather, wonderful food, wonderful organisation, and I wonder whose idea it was?! ............ and now we get this gift from our lovely children, what lucky people we are. Endless thanks and love must come your way. So I think she enjoyed it! With thanks
Sue

Foxglove 21 - 28 June
I booked our holiday week through Foxhangers mainly due to their location to our home address and that they were at the foot of the Devizes fleet of locks. This was a surprise holiday to celebrate our 40th anniversary. My wife and I are in our 60's so I was a bit worried about the physical side of a canal holiday, but Foxhangers were able to reassure me that we would be fine, which is exactly how it turned out. Not only were we surprised ar how easy it was to handle the four berth boat by ourselves, at every lock people seemed to appear from nowhere and muck in with the gates and bridges etc. The boat itself was very comfortable and had more than enough space for the two of us, and from the excellent handover and introduction by the marina staff, handling the water ways safely was a lot easier than we thought, just take your time and do it right. Even though there is TV, DVD Freeview on board, apart from the evening "soap fix" we spent most of our time sitting out on the cruiser stern watching the canal life and wild life pass us by, the Kennet and Avon must be one of the most picturesque canals in the UK, simply beautiful. My wife was particularly impressed with the little things that the females seem to pick up on, in the special washing up liquid the salt and pepper and cutlery being just right in number and extremely clean. The surprise box of chocolates and bottle of wine went down a treat although I did try to claim them as my idea, until she read the card!!! Many thanks for a relaxing interesting and informative holiday, we now add canal boat cruising to our list of experience's.

Foxtrot October 2009
To all at Foxhangers, thank you very much for an enjoyable long weekend break. Apart from myself the 6 friends who accompanied me had never set foot on a narrowboat before and they were amazed at the high standard set by yourselves, so many thanks. I will not hesitate to recommend you and I shall most definitely be hiring from you again in the not to distant future. Many thanks again!

"FoxTalbot" October 2009
A young group of us with relatively no boating experienced hired the "FoxTalbot" for a short weekend in late October 2009. (Fri - Sun) We found the information prior to the trip and the website very helpful and the initial briefing was very informative. The boat was surprisingly roomy and comfortable for 3 doubles and was very well equipped and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing trip and we travelled as far as AvonCliff Aqueduct and back, stopping in Bradford-on-Avon too. We have found Foxhangers fulfilled our every need with a very relaxed attitude and will definitely be recommending them to friends!

"Foxterrier" October 2009
We have just had a most enjoyable and relaxing week on Foxterrier. Very impressed with both the cleanliness and standard of equipment on the boat. The Foxhanger's staff were extremely helpful on arrival and at departure time. We went west to Bradford on Avon. The Kennet and Avon canal was tranquil and very beautiful. Importantly for us, there were lots of child friendly pubs en route.

"Foxterrier" October 2009
We had a mid-week break on "Foxterrier", 19 - 23 October 2009. Most of our previous boating experience has been from Calcutt in Warwickshire where the Royal Navy keep three narrowboats for off-service and retired RN personnel. They are 60 footers, understandably Spartan by comparison with "Foxterrier", but strangely, they don't handle as well. Although a bit longer, "Foxterrier" was very responsive to the helm and easy to manoeuvre, precisely and with confidence. First class boat, very well appointed, and to echo a previous testimonial, great to have all the galley kit you could possibly want. We tend to go for on-board catering, having arrived too many times at pubs that don't offer food on whichever day it is we arrive, have stopped serving 10 minutes previously, the kitchen is closed etc. Very much liked the canal, going Devizes to Bath and return, which compares well with the best parts of the Warwickshire Ring, the Stratford and Oxford Canals, Grand Union South, Leicester section, and Ashby Canal. Thanks also for recommending the "Cross Guns" at Avoncliff. I have just looked at their web site. Its all that they say it is, and more, excellent food and selection of beers. A walk around the attractions of Bath was, expectedly, a good half day well spent. But Bradford on Avon is also a bit of a gem. Thanks again.

Arctic Fox, September 2009
Just a quick note to say thank you for supplying an excellent boat (certainly the best we have been on) and for the overall service provided during our stay. The staff were friendly and efficient and made the handover and return incredibly simple. The wine and chocolates were an unexpected treat. We would without any reservation recommend your holidays. Richard Alton. The boats are well appointed and in good condition. We found all the staff helpful, flexible and friendly. I would highly recommend Foxhangers.

FoxTerrier
Thanks for a wonderful week on the Kennet & Avon - four adults and four children (not forgetting the dog!) on Fox Terrier. The boat was comfortable and superbly equipped - we have many years experience of self-catering holidays both abroad and in UK, afloat and on dry land, and I don't think I have ever had such a well-equipped kitchen! We managed to cook a celebration dinner for 8 for a family birthday with no difficulty at all. Despite fear and trepidation that it might be difficult to handle such a large narrowboat, it was no trouble at all and the "walk-through" by a member of your staff was thorough and all-encompassing. We were blessed with fantastic weather and travelled down to Bath and beyond through some of the most beautiful countryside. Thank you again for marvellous customer service - I have already mentioned your name to most of my friends and work colleagues!

I am writing to thank you for the hire of a truly first class boat. We have hired narrowboats for many years, but never a boat with so much laid on. It felt like we had moved into the 21st century - 240v supply throughout the boat, automatic pumping out of the shower and bilges, water tanks which held enough water for several days (and a meter to reassure us that we had plenty left!), automatic transfer of gas between bottles when one ran out, sliding windows in the kitchen to allow plenty of fresh air, and plenty of storage space in cabins and kitchens for what we brought with us…. On top of that, you supplied cooking knives that were sharp, coffee mugs that held a decent amount of coffee, pint glasses (for soft drinks as well as beer!), a tool kit (essential for a broken water tap we came across) and a free-standing table, which made all the difference at meal times. Truly a first class boat! Your staff were also helpful and accommodating despite us turning up at inconvenient moments - nothing was too much trouble. So are we coming back next year? Unfortunately not - but that’s down to the canal, not yourselves. ‘There and back’ is not really something we wish to do on consecutive years. Maybe when the new link up to the Thames is open?

"Foxtalbot" July 2009
Let us say we had a great time on "Foxtalbot" (July 2009). Congratulations for an outstanding service and a boat (or home) which gave us not only all we wanted but comfortable living on the water. The equipment and kitchen outfit (I was the cook) was outstanding for such little room, in fact better than a lot of "cottages" we know. The ladies want to remark the top cleanness of the boat. We do not have to mention, what a friendly crew you are! All together we are sorry that you have no boats on other canals, we sure would hire again FOXHANGERS.

FoxHunter July 09
Extremely enjoyable, very professional outfit, wonderful settings and the children (9/10/12/14) up for the Caen Hill locks next year! - The 69ft "Foxhunter" would have been a lot harder to manoeuvre if it had not been for the excellent tuition given. All thoroughly enjoyed it we will be keen to return next year and book a Silver fox.

FoxHunter July
A fantastic holiday on Foxhunter for a week from 13th July. We had eight on board, aged from 68 to 5, and we all loved it. The 9 year old fell in the first day, but then said he thought he had learnt his lesson! The boat was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed, and we much appreciated the wine and chocolates in the fridge. The locks and swing bridges kept us all busy, and the 5 year old enjoyed steering the boat, with a little help from her father. It is a beautiful canal, with lots to see and do, and I would thoroughly recommend a Foxhanger canal holiday to anyone. Thank you so much.”

Flying Fox, June/July 2009
“What do you do with two adults, four teenagers and a dog? Take them on a canal boat! This is the most successful holiday we’ve ever had as a family. Not only is it relaxing, but there is also plenty to do, and interesting places to visit. We also saw lots of beautiful countryside and wildlife and had many adventures (we found the dog eventually). There is always someone on the bank to help or offer advice (!), and a guaranteed audience every time you run aground. Thanks for the great boat and excellent service. Highly recommended.”

FoxTerrier June 09
“We hired out Foxterrier for 8 members of our family at the end of June 09 for a midweek break and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we explored some new hostelries en route to Bathampton and back. This is our 2nd holiday with you and would not hesitate to come back for a 3rd. Many thanks again.”

Foxcub
“Just wanted to thank you all for such a wonderful holiday on Foxcub - our beautiful, comfortable narrowboat for a week in July 3009. All the little touches such as the bed being made up, wine and chocolates in the fridge and the first class boat induction when we picked up Foxcub were superb, and all the staff were very helpful and attentive. Our boat was spotlessly clean and the inventory on the boat was also excellent - we didn’t even have to bother buying cleaning fluids - you thought of everything. We even hired our towels! We will recommend you all highly to friends and relatives and look forward to holidaying again.”

FoxTrot June 09
“We had a mid week break on Foxtrot in late June 2009. The boat was lovely, as were the staff at Foxhangers when we arrived and when we reluctantly brought the boat back! Foxtrot had more than enough room for two couples and 3 dogs (only one of whom jumped into the K&A canal during our holiday!) and was exactly what we wanted. Everyone we met whilst working the locks and swing bridges were so friendly and I will definitely be recommending the K&A and Foxhangers to my friends. See you again.”

Cunning Fox
“Me and six friend hired Cunning Fox from 13th-15th June, for a short break heading towards bath. As none of us had never been on a canal boat we didn't know what to expect, but after our briefing everything was fine and we all had one of our best weekends ever and we definitely be doing this on yearly basis. The staff were excellent and the boat was spotless. Cant wait till next year.”

Foxtrot May 2009
“We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Foxtrot (22-29 May 2009) - an excellent boat and so well equipped with everything we needed. Mooring in the centre of the City of Bath was amazing and the canal was really beautiful. Being so close to nature and seeing all the young water birds was amazing. Many thanks for a truly memorable holiday.”

Flying Fox September 2008
“A great holiday on the Flying Fox in September 2008. We wanted to introduce our Danish friends to a canal boat holiday and we were not disappointed. Despite some wet and cloudy days, we had a great holiday. There was no shortage of information and the service by the Foxhanger staff was friendly and efficient. When we had problems with the gas, help came almost immediately - we felt we were in good hands and enjoyed a beer together. The boat had lots of storage space and was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We were very impressed with the inventory and loved the warm duvets - something Danish people would hate to be without! We recommended your company on several occasions when talking to other holiday makers who thought the boat looked so attractive. The only minus was the fact that we couldn't go on the Avon River because of the strong currents and heavy rainfall, but even Foxhangers have no control over the weather gods! We hope that more people from abroad will sample the delights of a canal holiday through the lovely English countryside.”

“I am writing to thank everyone concerned for a fabulous weekend on board Foxterrier. It was a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday and he new nothing until we turned into your gate on Friday. I am pleased to say that he enjoyed every minute of the weekend as did our children and their partners and especially our 2 year old granddaughter. The boat is superb and was well fitted out and very clean. The bottle of wine and the chocolates in the fridge were a very nice touch and our first experience of narrow boating has not disappointed us and we possibly now have the bug and will be back again.”

“Thanks for a wonderful week on Foxterrier. The boat is one of the best we have ever hired, superbly equipped and maintained. We were particularly impressed by the two hot water tanks and the fact that we could shower first thing in the morning!”
Pat and Alan Wright

“Dear All, Just to say a big thank you for our excellent holiday last week. As my father had been on a few water-borne holidays in years gone by we thought a trip in a narrowboat would be an ideal 65th birthday present from the family. We were not disappointed. From the extremely friendly welcome and highly professional introduction to the craft we knew we were in for a good week. The boat was excellent (once we'd mastered the steering!) and very well equipped. The canal was glorious. Excellent cruising and good pubs at convenient intervals along the way. It was so nice to get away from cars and the generally frantic pace of normal life. Overall, a wonderfully relaxing few days. I had not done anything like this before and have now definitely got the bug. I'm working out when I can book to go up the Caen Hill flight next year. Thank you so much for an excellent holiday.” Regards

Matthew Wood

“Brilliant. Thank you. What a nice, friendly and efficient firm Foxhangers is! As we were leaving last Friday morning, a big dark dog fox ran across your drive in front of the car. Foxhanger indeed!”

FoxGlacier June 2008
“Four of us had a short break on Fox Glacier last weekend of June 2008. We are two couples who had never been on a canal boat before. When we arrived we were very apprehensive and wondered if we had perhaps bitten off more than we could chew. Our fears were groundless. Your induction was very professional but at the same time an entertainment in itself. When we set off we soon found we could actually do it! First we learned how to go through locks and swing bridges; a little later how to get unstuck with the barge poles; then how to park without falling in. Last how to turn round. A great thrill! A small technical problem was dealt with immediately by your extraordinarily helpful people including chauffeuring us to the best pub dinner we have ever had! We had an absolutely splendid break! We are hooked!. We are telling all our friends you've gotta do it! Kindest regards”

"Just a quick note to say thanks for a brilliant holiday! we hired the Foxtrot on the May Day bank holiday weekend in 2008. Excellent training, staff all helpful, friendly and patient, and wonderful boat with excellent facilities. A most relaxing, enjoyable weekend. Excellent detailed information provided about local pubs, stuff to look at, and maps. Boats were straightforward to use (with a bit of practice) and locks, bridges, all the same. What do you get with a Foxhangers Canal Holiday?
How to Book
Before you come on holiday
During your holiday, what will it be like?
After your holiday

How I do I find a suitable holiday?

Our online booking calendars show real time availability and allow you to book 24hrs a day.

Alternatively telephone our bookings office who are an experienced and knowledgeable team who will happily tell you about all aspects of canal holidays and provide you with options you may have missed whilst looking on line.

What size boat should I book?

Each of the boats are labelled with two berth numbers i.e. 4-7 or 2-5 berth.  You should interpret the first number as meaning the number of berths on permanent beds (i.e. 2 fixed doubles or 1 fixed double and 2 fixed singles, the second number means the maximum capacity of the boat i.e. permanent beds plus make-beds in the saloon (1 make-up double and make-up single). You will need to check the boat layout to see the actual single/double bed options available.

Things also to consider, obviously smaller boats are cheaper in cost than larger boats.  However, consider having the maximum number of berths occupied with adults will make the boat very full and create intimate moments from time to time! If you prefer a little more space, then only using the permanent beds will afford you a little more comfort.

Also consider the length of the break and the time of year, in the summer months the outside deck space becomes more of a natural extension of the internal cabin space, but in the cooler spring and autumn months the outside deck space will be less appealing especially in the evenings and therefore confine you to the warm internal cabins for longer periods.   Often groups out for a short break are far more receptive to filling the boat with its maximum capacity for just a few nights, but for some having a little more room in the boat especially for a week or longer holiday is essential!

Can I reserve or hold a boat before I pay the booking deposit?

For booking enquiries made over the telephone or by email we will always endeavour to reserve / hold a booking open for you for a maximum of 24hrs.

However, for late availability bookings at short notice this will not be possible as bookings will be only be accepted with full payment.

What are your payment terms?

We require a booking deposit of 25% of the hire charge at the time of booking and the balance payment will be due for payment no later than 8 weeks before the holiday start date.

What if I have to change or cancel my booking?

Please let us know if this happens as soon as possible and we will try and help.  There is an administration charge of £50.00 payable for alterations, but in the event of a cancellation the deposit will be forfeited and the following charges will apply: cancellations 56-43 days 50%, 42-29 days 75%, 28-0 days 100%.  We recommend that all our hirers take out cancelation insurance. You can visit the link below to arrange your insurance, or you are welcome to make your own arrangements.

> Click here to arrange cancellation insurance

What should we bring?

Not too much! Storage space is quite limited on a narrowboat, although our boats have more than most! We provide all bed linen. Be prepared for all weather conditions, warm clothes can be necessary even in summer. We do provide 2 sets of waterproofs on all our boats. Do not wear shoes that might slip on a wet deck, and bring wellies outside of the summer months. 12v phone mobile phone charger and 12v chargers for any laptops or cameras that plug into a cigar lighter. There are plenty of excellent canalside pubs and restaurants along the K&A, but you will need to bring or purchase along the way provisions for the boat. Games, books, DVD's, cameras, fishing rods etc are a good idea as there will always be time at the end of a days cruising for some quiet relaxation.  Here’s a helpful list of suggested items to take on your boat holiday

What Shouldn’t we bring?

• Large suitcases (these can be left in your car)

• High load 240v appliances such as hairdryers or sensitive electrical equipment with
intelligent chargers (the boats have 240v inverters suitable for charging most mobile
   phones, cameras and laptops)

• Canoes

• Live fishing bait

• Flushable toilet wipes - whilst many manufacturers freely advertise their products as
“flushable” they are general labelled as unsuitable for macerator or septic tanks.
Our toilet systems are efficient but sensitive and only bio degradable paper should be used.
Sanitary disposal bags are supplied for other items and should be placed in the bins provided.

Can I bring a travel cot?

Please be aware that due to the inevitable space constraints on-board narrowboats and the need to ensure all exits remain unobstructed, finding room for a travel cot isn’t easy.  We recommend hiring a boat with extra capacity that leaves a vacant sleeping area to put the travel cot. See this picture here of a travel cot and the available dimensions when positioned in the dinette area in the saloon.  The pop-up bubble travel cot come highly recommended http://www.koo-di.co.uk/bubblecot

What if I’m late arriving for my holiday?

In order for our scheduling arrangements to run smoothly on each departure day, it is important that you arrive promptly at the time allotted to your particular boat please.  With this in mind, please allow yourself adequate time for your safe journey to Foxhangers.

The consequences of your late arrival could mean that you incur a charge (as per our Terms and Conditions) and whilst we’ll do our best to re-schedule your Handover as soon as we can, the start of your holiday could well be delayed.

What transport is available from Heathrow?

Car hire is available from Heathrow - for more information, see:
http://www.heathrowairport.com/transport-and-directions/car-hire

Trains offer a direct service from Paddington to Chippenham:
http://www.thetrainline.com/train-times/london-paddington-to-chippenham
A taxi can be obtained from Chippenham Station and currently costs in the region of
£30-£35 (one-way to Foxhangers).

What shopping facilities are available?

For more information on shopping, see our Kennet and Avon Canal page:
http://www.foxhangers.co.uk/kennetandavoncanal/groceries.htm

Are lifejackets included?

We will always provide life jackets for all children and non-swimmers in your group. These members should wear their lifejackets whenever they’re on deck. We are happy to provide life jackets for all persons aboard and would encourage everyone to wear a jacket, especially whilst on the River Avon or River Kennet.

> Life Jacket Policy

We are unable to provide dog life jackets due to the variety of sizes and styles we would need to stock.  Such products are widely available to purchase and we recommend an online search will quickly show up more information from suppliers.

What is provided on board?

All of our boats have cooking and cleaning equipment, as well as plates, glasses, cutlery etc. We provide bed linen and pillows. Towels are also provided on the basis of 1 x bath towel per person and 1 x hand towel per bathroom. Click here to go to the boats page. Full inventories for each boat can be accessed by clicking on the boat that you would like to look at.

Is there 240v to charge mobile phones and tablets?

All of our boats have 240v source suitable for charging small appliances like phones and cameras.

We recommend that you check with its manufacturer to be sure it is compatible with a Modified

Sine Wave inverter.  Don’t be too alarmed if you notice an Interference such as lines or a hum.

Can I bring my Sleep Apnea CPAP machine?

Yes you can on our Silver Fox fleet of boats (plus FoxTalbot) as they have suitable 240v power inverters.  Although maybe not on our Foxy boats as their Inverters are less powerful limited to 300 watts. In which case the following link will allow you to hire a portable/battery CPAP machine:
http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk/cpap_battery_rental.php

Will we be able to use a Nebuliser on board?

A Nebuliser or Nebulizer is a drug delivery device used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. Our Silver Fox Fleet class of boats all have a suitable power supply and availability of 240v sockets throughout the boat to run a Nebuliser.  Our Foxy fleet of boats may well be able to support use of a Nebuliser although please check the power requirements are less than 300w, also a short extension lead maybe required.

Can I bring my hairdryer and hair straighteners?

We provided hairdryers on board - so leave your own hairdryer behind as it probably won’t work on board our boats.  However the Silver Fox Vessels of Fennec, Tibetan, Snooty, Arctic, Flying, Urban, Cunning and Lazy Fox and FoxTalbot  have 2kw modified sine wave inverters that will most likely be suitable for your Hair Straighteners although please show them to your handover guide when you arrive and they will check them to make sure they are suitable and won't be damaged.

Where can I park my car?

Foxhangers is fortunate enough to be able to offer ample car parking space to their customers for multiple cars  which is adjacent to the wharf and secured with gates that are closed with combination lock outside of working hours.

2 spaces are included with each booking, additional car parking is charged at £15.00 per car.

Cars are parked at their own risk Foxhangers accepts no liability for any accidents, damage or loss incurred.

What is your accessibility policy?

How far can we travel in a day?

On most of the inland waterways the maximum speed is around 4mph (a brisk walking pace) however the average speed is closer to 3mph. In calculating how far you can to travel in a day, you should work on the basis of "lock miles" . To do this count each lock as one mile and add the distance in actual miles to make "lock miles". Divide this by 3(mph) to give the total time in hours to cover the required distance including locks.

How far can I get in a few days?

This really depends on how much boating you want to do. Click here to go to the Kennet and Avon canal page where you can plot your route with approximate travel times provided. As a rough guide, If you are heading west, Bath is approximately 9 hours boating away, and heading east, it takes about 4 ½ hours to negotiate the Caen Hill locks to Devizes.

Is there any work being carried out on the canal?

We suggest that you follow this link for up-to-date information:  Boating Stoppages

Is our canal holiday environmentally green?

What if something has gone wrong during your holiday?

In the unlikely event that you feel something needs putting right (that we haven’t already thought of!), then please let us know straight away and we will do whatever is possible to correct matters.  If we still haven’t been able to resolve things for you then let our Bookings Office staff know either by telephone, email or letter and they will pass any concern to the appropriate manager for acknowledgement and action in line with our Terms and Conditions.

Contact during your holiday

There are occasionally unforeseen circumstances which crop up during the season meaning we will need to need to speak to you or someone else who is on board during your stay.  It is therefore very important that you can supply us with at least one (ideally two) mobile phone numbers for the duration of your visit please.  We understand you will want to be “getting away from it all” but it is necessary that that we are able to keep in touch with you for navigational or safety reasons should the need arise.

Can I fish from my boat?

Many boaters like nothing more than to moor up at the end of the day and relax by doing a spot of fishing from their boat. And the last couple of hours before darkness can of course be the best fishing times of the day. But there can be uncertainty about what permissions are needed and whether the chosen spot is an appropriate place to fish.
Firstly there is the issue of the rod licence.  Anyone aged 12 or older needs to be in possession of an Environment Agency rod licence before starting fishing. One day, eight day and an annual version are available.
Possessing a valid rod licence legalises the use of a fishing rod, it does not give the owner a right to actually fish.
The second consideration is permission to fish from the owner or occupier of the fishery. The majority of the canal network is rented to angling clubs and their permission is required in order to fish.
Finding out where and when to obtain day permits can be challenging and definitely comes under the heading of ‘work in progress’. Most clubs do however issue temporary membership on the bank and increasingly in the future I feel sure more and more clubs will enter the digital age.
The third, and final, consideration before deciding to fish is to consider whether fishing is actually allowed at the particular location. Where fishing is not permitted from the bank it is also not permitted from a boat either. Most fishing rods and poles are made of carbon fibre, a good electrical conductor. Overhead power lines represent a serious threat to life and limb - always look up before starting to fish and if in any doubt don’t fish. As a guideline, no fishing should take place within 30 metres of electrical power lines.

Do I need any previous boating experience?

No. It is not necessary to have any previous boating experience to hire a self-drive boat. We will provide you with a very comprehensive boaters hand book and DVD which you can peruse prior to your holiday, plus we provide very thorough training on arrival at our base. This will include how to steer your boat, daily boat checks, operating locks and safety instructions. Don't be afraid to ask questions to ensure that you are completely confident and can get the most enjoyment from being captain of your own vessel.

What is a boating holiday like?

Boating holidays appeal to a wide variety of interests. You can get away from it all on the tranquil backwaters of the rural canals with their quaint waterside pubs, or explore the normally hidden channels through major towns and cities with a wealth of architectural and industrial history only accessible by water. Your boating holiday offers many places of interest to stop along the way for the whole family.

There is also plenty to do on the water itself, including piloting your own boat, operating locks, exploring backwaters, and maybe taking in a little fishing or soaking up the sun! The slow pace of the waterways is one of the main attractions to many and because you travel only as far as you wish each day, your holiday can be as relaxing or as energetic as you choose.

Do I need a licence?

No "driving" licence is required for a hire boat on the inland waterways. Your boat will however be licensed to use the Kennet & Avon canal including the rivers Avon & Kennet at each end. Should you wish to enter the Bristol Floating Harbour you will be required to make a small payment to the harbour master.

What is included in the holiday price?

Your holiday hire cost will include the self-drive hire of your chosen boat for the rental period. A small fuel waiver paid separately to the hire charge will provide sufficient fuel to run the engine and central heating systems during your hire period.

All bedding, 2 car parking spaces (additional spaces available for small charge), digital TV, life jackets and VAT at 20% is included in the hire price.

NEW for the 2016 season, towels will be included free of charge on the basis of one bath towel per person and one hand towel per bath room.

You will also receive with your booking a pack of details, a Geoprojects Kennet & Avon canal map, and waiting on board for you will be a  bottle of wine, a box of chocolates and either a free “Captain’s T-shirt or “Captain’s Mug”.

Can I take dogs?

Up to 2 pets are allowed (on larger under occupied boats we will consider allowing 3 dogs) on the boat if it has been agreed at the time of booking and written confirmation has been received from the company.  Hirers must provide their own pet baskets or blankets and should ensure that their pet has been treated with the appropriate flea treatment or be wearing a flea collar. All pets must be properly house trained or caged as appropriate, must not be left unattended, and must not be allowed on bedding or chairs.  Pets are not covered under the company’s insurance policy and the hirer shall be liable for the cost of any damage or extra cleaning required. A charge of £30.00 is made for each animal.

Exactly what safety advice and training do you provide?

We aim to provide all the information you will need in order to safely handle our boats. One of our experienced team members will show you through the boat, explain where everything is and how everything works, before demonstrating how to safely drive and moor the boat, operate swing bridges and locks. We have developed this handover training in compliance with the British Marine Federation’s Hire Boat Handover Scheme.

What is the hire boat handover scheme?

The ‘Hire Boat Handover’ is a nationally recognised scheme developed by the British Marine Federation and RYA. There will be two forms sent to you on confirmation of your booking. You will need to bring these completed forms along with you on the day of your holiday. Failure to do so will result in your not being able to board your boat. These measures are in the best interest of your safety and allow us to optimise our quality of service to you. They simply allows us to get a better idea of your level of knowledge and to ensure that you understand all aspects of canal boating and your vessel before you depart. This is vital to your group’s safety and to minimise the risk of damaging the boat.

Can we do a one way cruise?

Unfortunately we are only able to offers boats on the strict understanding they start and vacate at Foxhangers Wharf, therefore all trips are ‘there and back’.

What is the damage waiver for?

The damage waiver gives protection against the cost of damage, loss or accident to the hire boat or its inventory during the period of hire up to the value Companies insurance policy excess.  Think of it like an insurance premium - just like a hire car excess waiver!
It is a compulsory charge and is priced separately to the hire charge as insurance premiums do not incur VAT.
Negligent or wilful costs incurred are not covered by the waiver.  There are certain exclusions for which additional charges will apply that are not covered by the damage waiver.
See terms and conditions for full details.

What is the fuel waiver for?

A narrowboat typically uses about 10-15 litres of diesel a day for both propulsion and heating.  We make sure your boat is fully fuelled before you start your holiday so that you won't have to refill during your holiday.  The fuel waiver is a one off charge that covers your fuel costs.

It is a compulsory charge and is priced separately to the hire charge as Fuel has a lower 5% VAT rate.

Do you accept Single Sex or Party Groups?

Yes we do, although be sure a canal boat holiday is really right for you!
See our Party Group Policy and Pre-Authorisation Policy.

What is the difference between a canal boat, a narrow boat, a long boat and a barge?

A canal boat is quite simply any boat travelling on a canal. Canal boats refer to boats built for any purpose including hireboats.

A narrowboat or narrow boat is a boat of a distinctive design, made to fit the narrow canals of the United Kingdom.

In the context of the British Inland Waterways narrow boat (with a space) refers to the original working boats built in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries for carrying goods on the narrow canals. This term is extended to modern narrowboats (without a space) used for recreation or sometimes as homes whose design and dimensions are an interpretation of the old boats used for modern purposes and made with modern materials.

Although some narrow boats were built to a design based on river barges it is technically incorrect to refer to a narrowboat or narrow boat as a barge although many people do. In the context of the British Inland Waterways, a barge is usually a much wider, cargo carrying boat or a modern boat modelled on one.

A long boat or longboat refers to the boats the Vikings used for their pillaging voyages of discovery in the middle ages but many people refer to narrowboats as longboats.

Many boating enthusiasts are purists and insist on the correct terms being used. Here, at Foxhangers, we don’t mind which of these terms you use as long as you agree with us that we are the best hire boat company on the Kennet and Avon Canal!
